I put my faith and trust in the air sim community

As we saw in Il2 the aficionados cracked the code and added a lot of goodies to the sim. Lets give them a few months to develop CloD so maybe there won't be a need for RoF2.

Mods are ok. They even have an official sub forum. I thought you knew.

Luthier already said he has no problem with mods for offline play. His only warning was that they not be taken online without risk of a ban.

theOden 12-13-2012 11:24 AM

Any specific reason you talk about mods all of a sudden?

Because there's a clear difference between cracking the code of a product and modding it, and that many don't understand the difference?

He111 12-13-2012 11:46 AM

Will there be a serious effort by CLOD-lovers to revive it through modding? or do we need the source code ?

.

I'd say since most of the major changes are probably code-related, mods won't fix it. Don't think you can mod the wingman-commands etc without access to the core. And even IF you had the sourcecode, you'd still have to get things to work with Steam, especially online.

I never would have thought I'ld say this.....but we need to get that Julian Assange out of the Ecuadorian embassy!

I'm not 100% sure, so correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Desastersoft manage to get wingman commands working in their missions? I think I read that from someone singing the praises of their campaigns awhile back. (I really need to check them out at some point...)

That said... a lot of them do seem to work now, at least on the dynamic campaign mod.... though not all of them and, I have found, not all the time. lol

But as for cracking the code: Yep. Criminal offence as the code is 1C's intellectual property.... I'm not sure where the law stands if 1C gave someone permission to crack it, mind. (???)

It would be great news, if something like that was happening.

Cheers

Sir, please back away from the crack pipe.
I talk with many modders, and NONE of them are even remotely interested in modding CoD.
Too many major issues with the base game.

No need for BoS? Really? Jesus tap-dancing Christ....

Viking 06-15-2014 01:57 AM

And here we are a few years later and CoD is looking better and better.

It's funny to reread some of these old threads and peoples reactions. I recall one fellow who threatened to find and murder me on the Ubi forums over the modding of Il-2. Later he turned up at SAS, begging for more P-47 variants.

Continu0 06-15-2014 11:24 AM

Feathered, are you within TF?

Feathered_IV 06-15-2014 11:56 AM

No, sorry. I was thinking of offering a hand with map making, particularly with Malta, but it sounds like they have plenty of folks already.

If you are a 3D-Artist/Modeler, please get in contact with them... they need 3D-Modelers urgently!

I for one is extremely happy to see the result of the many talented and passionate air sim aficionados'.
This is the pinnacle of air sim development! I supported Luthiers DCS project but it failed and will never live up to expectations. BoS is a complete failure with engine delivering fps 30 to 50% of what should be there, and now everything is a snow white sheet(!), it is simply based on an inadequate engine.
CoD failed economically but proved to be based on a sound and well written program that still can be developed and expanded. Good work!
If now only the "criminal" moders can merge all patches, including 5.0, into one and then bring them to the market in order to make some money I strongly believe that we can and will see the continuation of CoD for many years. A second option is not available, and never will be.
Master

I highly doubt that TF will get the chance to make some money or release anything officially... That would mean that 1C would have to release the source code and as long as BoS or any successor of it is in development that will not happen. Officialy, there is either Cliffs or BoS and atm. it looks like it will be BoS... Pitty but that`s how it is... and time will tell...

robtek 06-25-2014 09:41 PM

BoS is a PoS in my eyes :D

Sorry for the corny pun, but BoS is not living up to my expectations as I expected improvement over CloD.
