How long before your visits here start to become really few and far between?
Currently I still drop by in the hope of seeing any progress news.
1C/Maddox really are awful at communicating with the community and yet I still drop by (almost daily) crossing my fingers some news has transpired. I also wait in hope of the "Regular Friday Update", but again these never transpire. Sadly, I know I will lose interest at an increased pace, the less is learned or shared with the community. Currently there are the hopes of a sequel, none of which are confirmed and yet a short post on progress would be all it would take to re-invigorate the community. I honestly feel that the statement "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" is something that is never likely to work here and unless some official news is forth-coming, many will consider rumors that have circulated to maybe be accurate. I really do think that there should be an official announcement sooner rather than later, to at-least give confidence to faithful or even they will begin considering the possibility that there may not be a future for the series, unless modding takes over? It's been asked for many times (and ignored) but come on Development team, have the respect for your community and at-least put our minds at ease with an official announcement on the future of the series. I'm a life er!!:-P

They learned a lesson in the forums along time ago. "D*mned if you do, D*mned if you don't. We are going to hear, either that the development is shut down thru leaks on the IC forums or a more positive statement thru an Official Announcement when they are ready. No amount of hand wringing is likely to change that. I believe there is still a fifty- five percent chance there will be a positive announcement, how positive? Its anyone's guess, on the direction the development will take.

Don't get me wrong though. There were some things a out SHV that I rather liked. |

As for the customers that bought into Luthier's ability to put out a solid product we learned an easier lesson "D*mned if you do"....the end. |
Asking to the original question of the post...
It's already happenning. I Know most people don't give a rats @ss, but now I visit the forums on a two weeks basis or so. |
I very rarely come here now.
What's the point? To crow that a few of us were right..? To point out mod idiosyncracies? To poke fun at the self-appointed Praetorian guard...or what can be seen of them, what with all that egg on their faces...? To chivvy along the same old elements? Nope, there's a 'world elsewhere...' Ben |
I'll be here every day until the Official Announcement of 'No Further Announcements'.

Personally I come here, sometimes several times a day , because it keeps me off the streets and saves me money.
Every now and then I get the erge to buy a high end graphics card, but I waited till the performance patch and I got reasonable frame rates. Now I will hold off any upgrades till the sequal is released. I've saved thousands comming here over the years! :) Also, if you take the time too look, there are some very interesting things being created by a very talented community . It's not that bad a place to be. Cheers! |
I come here about once a week or so out of boredom.
I come here to see the trainwreck aftermath that is CLoD. I come here to see the fanatics that deny it being a wreck. I come here to see the funny posts and hopes of folks that have obviously never played a complete simulator and sing praises for this mess. I come here to see if an offical announcement is either MG is shut down, or a new scheme to try and hoodwink the last of it customer based. Either way I will be entertained. I come here for enterainment, in the lowest saddest of its kind. At least I am honest. |

I'm in here probably 5 times a day.

I lurk here still. Oleg did sell the Friday update thing rather well.

If the convo turns to The Apprentice or X factor then I think We are in BIG trouble:(
|
once a week is much enough for me. even once a month would be.
|
I tend to pop in most days,i don't even fly the sim, can't be bothered so i don't know why really.
|
i discovered that i enjoy chatting with people more than virtualy shooting them down so i play less and less and hang around in forums more and more
|
Once a week or so for me, mostly because I'm checking on the Daidalos forum and I pop in here while in the area. I'm still active in IL2, and I drop some cash on a FPS or something every once in a while when I get bored. Other than that I have a life.
IL2 is still a great pastime, and I am glad for it, as I have friends all over the world now because of it. I'll shed a tear or two if CLoD has met it's demise, but in the end I have a lot more to live for. |

I really miss the Friday updates. Still check the forum every Friday hoping to spot an update with a few screenies and news. But nothing.
I basically just randomly check the site. |
I pop on to look at the screenshots, not worth it for anything else really.
It's a 'dead' forum in reality, can the last one out please turn off the lights... |
Its like coming back to the scene of a crime saying to myself "man I can't believe that actually happened'.
|
The sequel announcement can not be made till all negotiations are over. No disrespect meant. This is just how business works. You can not trust a party that gives out negotiations details without prior agreement. This is easy to understand even in countries without 100% free economy. Just common sense.
|
I think there is quite a lot going on, with free missions, campaigns, skins and there are always the screenshots to look at.
There is probably more to be exited about now than when we were anticipating the Big Fix. Though for some reason it doesn't feel that way. I miss the anticipation (/desperate hope and despair). |

They should have a news page on there website informing the community of future developments with exciting things to look forward to like this here.
http://riseofflight.com/Blogs/default.aspx |
If 1C now has total control of MG then they had better appoint a decent PR manager. BS tried to do a good job but appears to have been gagged by 1C management. Consequently the rumours start flying, what are they trying to hide?? maybe nothing.
Possibly at this stage the future of the series is going to depend on supprise with what the next stage of the series will contain. You don't want the opposition to gain any head start (who ever they maybe) and beat you to the punch. Oleg was a good PR person because he at least kept the community informed where he could, ok it was always 2 weeks away (hence the joke) but I don't think 1C has anyone capable of doing the job of PR if they are going to tie their hands behind their back. Thank you BS for trying to fill the role to the best of your ability seeing the restrictions placed upon you prevented a lot of information forthcoming. |

Yet you seem to be under the impression that someone did? Allow me, Do not confuse me providing an example of how most game makers cut-and-run after only a couple of months of support with me saying two wrongs make a right. I simply responded to those who think or feel they got treated poorly by 1C.. By providing an example that shows 1C treats its customer far better than most game makers when it comes to support.. Hope that helps! S! Quote:
So let me see if I understand you correctly here.. The makers of SH5 stopped all support of SH5 a couple of months after the release of SH5.. Where as the makers of CoD (1C) supported CoD for well over a year after the release of CoD.. And you say that is only 'slightly better'? Hun.. Well that does shed some light on just how unrealistic the expectations are of a lot of flight sim users like you IMHO.. Especially when you take into account the SH5 support resulted in the death of the series and CoD support resulted in a sequel! |
Let us be honest the whining, complaining and "feeling hard done" by problem existed well before the game was even released.
It is not surprising things got to the state they are now in. |
I'll keep coming here as long as I get to read comical posts complaining that the devs aren't providing hourly updates on how the sequel is progressing.
|
So after all the waffle you still think they communicate ok -oh well.
|
I don't need someone holding my hand every day, so I think the communication is fine. When they have something to announce I'm sure they will communicate it.
|
Quote:
Assuming that you are not trying to miss it and just still don't get it.. Allow me to give it one more try.. The point you seem to be missing is that I am saying 1C is communicating better and providing more support than 'other' if not 'most' game making companies.. And in support of my claim I gave you an example of a recent game maker that provided no communication and no support after just a few months The contrast here being 1C was still communicating and providing support for well over a year.. Does that help? If not feel free to PM me where I can give you more examples, in that I hate to muddy up the waters of this thread spoon feeding you what should be obvious |
I think the problem Ace is that we were so used to Oleg communicating regularly with us with the old series that most of us take that as the line in the sand.
Sadly since the change of the guard that sort of communication style has ceased, too bad. If 1C could only see it's way clear to appoint a permanent PR person for this forum most of the speculation and runours would disappear. As I've said before BS did a good job under a difficult situation but his hands seem to have been tied behind his back, now all communication seems to have stopped. Ok a lot of that we could to some extent lay the blame on ourselves because of the moans and complaints that were aired on the forum, 80% of it can be delivered to 1C for releasing a product to the market that was far from ready. Lets hope that the future of the series evolves with better PR than this first effort. Surely if a permanent PR person was appointed with Russian and English language as BS appeared to have, this would be a major step forward with customer relations. The PR person doesn't necessarily have to come from the MG development team but could be appointed from the wider 1C staff so long as they had the orthority to give out progress information (not secretive development information that may affect the team) that would gives us all confidence in the future of this sim and bring back the support that will start to drift away, I believe that situation has already started. |

Sad truth is info or no info, this forum has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that there will be speculation and rumors In essence a loose loose for 1C, as in dammed if they do, dammed if they don't. No don't bother ----
In my world the sim is broken and the feedback from the developers is not good ,but that is my point of view which i am entitled to regardless . |

Here is a summary of the usual forum response to dev communication on the forum DEV Announcement! 2-5 pages of praise! Great news! 2-5 pages of worrying. This news is ok, but I was hoping for more! 20+ pages of complaining. This game/update is going to suck! Why are you lying? 2-3 pages of people who trashed the devs asking for more news. 1 page of people demanding more news. Thread locked. I think the devs finally figured this out. |

Unfortunately Ace a lot of the speculation and rumours start in other forums, then get dragged into here by our own members visiting these other forums. If there was a PR person then these rumours could be quickly squashed with some "TRUTHFULL" information from 1C.
The result of no information is lack of confidence in the whole of 1C's products, there will be a lot who have bought C.o.D. will now be reluctant to jump in and get the sequel without seeing the proof of the pudding (not good for initial sales). If there is going to be a sequel (or not) let 1C tell us yes or no. At least Luthier had the balls to say "no more patches" after the last release to Steam. The only thing that is disappointing me at the moment is the lack of "official" Sli support that Luthier said has been requested with Nvidia after the final patch, that was about the middle of October and still nothing. |

With the recent release of some excellent user made campaigns, I find myself doing more flying than posting now. The sim has finally become entertaining, which was made possible by the developers patches, and the community modders making good use of the FMB also made possible by the developers. I've never felt the developers weren't communicating, as they've made hundreds of posts in the forums, letting me know what they were trying to achieve.
I've never been enough of a fool to believe everything they were trying to achieve would make it into the initial release. In fact at the time I thought it impossible they could have anywhere near playable frame rates with all the highly complex features they were talking about. Oleg even mentioned features would be added as system resources allowed through the life of the series. Even then many people still throw WIP features in the developers face as "promises" for COD. I will say they were less than forthright on just how unfinished the sims actually was, but being forthright would have killed sales, and therefore any chance the sim could be completed. Its obvious their plan wasn't to just take the money and run, but to too quickly optimize COD as soon as possible after release, but at the time they probably didn't realise a complete graphic engine rewrite would be required to make it playable on their average customers systems. Personally I'm very happy they made the difficult decision to release an unfinished product, as it secured enough added financing to convince the series investors to continue their investment. The development has had more than their fair share of setbacks, and there is still alot of work to be done even on the most basic features, but unlike most WW2 air combat developers, they've stayed the course, and probably will continue to stay the course as long as they can secure financing. The time required to rewrite the graphic engine and other required rewrites has definitely put the development in jeopardy, but the rumors in the Russian forums from people closer to development suggests the flame is still flickering, just wait for the official announcement. IMHO the delay announcemen,t and lack of info regarding the delay is probably due to sensitive negotiations regarding any number of factors, including financing, personnel, possible revenue streams for the game engine, and the priorities that would entail. Not to mention if its even financially feasible to continue the development. This is all basic speculation, but if the developers/publishers had any devious plan as a few here suggest, the development would have quietly stopped work shortly after the release of COD in the West, licked their wounds and moved on to a more profitable genre, that takes far less work. Instead they spent millions trying to fix COD and build a Sequel, knowing full well that this time no one is going to buy the Sequel, until they're sure its a good product. |
There hasn't been any information from 1C to be able to judge wether it is truthfull or not, that's the problem.
Where have I accused them of telling lies David?? |

The fact that he not only said it, but went as far as to bold it shows that he believes they are/were lying.. Most likely a Freudian slip on his part, he may not even realize that deep down that is what he belives.. That is to say if you asked him in public (this forum) he would most likely answer no he does not belive they are lying.. That is the funny thing about Freudian slips, they tend to show all how you really feel.. Even if they don't realize it themselves! |
Amazing how David pops up, stirs his usual **** and derails the topic into his agenda of everyone not of his opinion is wrong.

There have been times in this forum where statements coming from the developers have appeared to have been what we wanted to hear not necessarily what was happening. There have been no statements that I've seen here from 1C.
All I'm asking for is a PR person that will give us the information we need. Has the series been abandoned completely or not??. Don't need maybe, or we are still working on it, without some evidence to back it up. A statement from 1C officially will do, don't need agravation from certain people in this forum who seem to spend all their time here trying to find negative in others posts and then starting a verbal war. |
This was posted by ATAG_Bliss in the SimHQ forums.
__________________________________________________ _______________________ One of the Russian members of our forums who is also fluent in English posted this: Posted by eekz: Quote: Not a speculation, but a word from a man who helps the developers: http://www.sukhoi.ru/forum/showthrea...=1#post1935516 Translation (i'll make the post more formal, as I dont know approriate English idioms to replace Russian ones, and don't want to distort the sense of his post due to this). DEDA writes: "I cant give you any detailed information, as I am not in competence to do so. The only thing I can advice you is to wait until official announcement. Yes, I know exact details of what is planned, but I cant publicly disclose them. I've already said it enough about the simulator that is under development. Everything about it have been decided. It will be Eastern Front. Genre, budget, setting - everything is decided and approved. The development is going on. However any details are secret information. Announcement? It will happen when the time will come and when everything is ready for it. In regular regime. There is no point to ask for it every day. I personally know the producer of the project and can assure you that the main goal is the quality of the final product. After Oleg left the team, there was a major issue with that." DEDA is reliable source. Many of you may know his films about Russian aircrafts of WWII ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aDOz7tvXvk ) and now he helps the developers with technical documentation. In my humble opinion the main thing we would like to know is there. New simulator is under development. Some of the translations by English speakers using Google translate don't make any sense. But what eekz posted on our forums sounds fairly promising. So it's back to the waiting game. _________________________ ATAG Forums __________________________________________________ ______________________________ |

In a way I have to agree with raaaid.. Ignore buttons are for those who are not in full control of their emotions and/or feel that something said in this forum actually has impact on their day to day life. For those types, it is a very good thing indeed!
|
No need for a button. I'm actually ignoring you all at the the moment without you even knowing it. :-)
Well, you know it now obviously, but before you didn't. I bet. |
Ignore is a good feature for people with no self control.
In a related matter, was Tree_UK banned permanently? |

Getting back on topic, it would be a good long while before I stopped visiting altogether. Several years of habit is hard to break. I do find that I no longer have the passion for the series that I used to have. After luthiers recent Q&A I realised that it is probably going to miss the mark again next time around. I'm looking for much more than just a "box o' planes".
|
Optimists live longer.
I visit the site daily to see if the big announcement was made. Not really interested in the current game as I don`t have time to fly anymore. Maybe if a real online war started, I`d sacrifice all other of my computer time for CloD, but as of now nothing like that is happening. And even if that went fine, I`d be able to give it a max of maybe 10 to 12 hours a week which is fine just for anyone NOT flying an online war. I`d be cannon fodder.
Like the dude said, it is a habit more than anything, since the game didn`t grow how I expected it to. Other than that I simply do not believe that something as huge as this would get scrapped. In the worst case scenario someone else can work with it. That said, I remain optimistic about the future of the series. |
I check into the 1C pilots lounge every once in a while like maybe once a week or so mainly to see if raaaid has discovered time travel or some other astro physical phenomenon. I appreciate the Led Zep thread and that Cream video.
Good stuff. There are some interesting discussions here as well. I would not like to see this site go away. I have Cliffs of D, but I mainly fly IL2 online now. |
