Merlassar Island - Lair of the Pirate King

Looking at the savegame scanner, there is ancient amulet available from this store, but the pirate king refuse to trade with me. I have done the Brutus headhunter for him but I am still not to be trusted ? Does this store opened up later?

Apparently from the dialogue , you must refuse him , he tells you are an honest man, then you finally accept the quest. If you rush and accept to kill Brutus from the first time he will never trade with you.

DANG! I rushed!

Me and you both. I am on the second play, first time i rushed it too.

Thanks for the tip and I am lucky to find an old save for me to "turn back the time." :)

I noticed there is 2 option for the logger quest. One to go thru the king to verify the seal and the other just straight away combat ? The combat option yielding some exp but will the king option trigger new quests ?

Don't think so, the snake spirit simply says its impressed that you handled it peacefully. But there might have been some additional reward from Kael for telling him.

Anyone can confirm if there is an advantage if you show the seal?

Well I handled the whole affair peacefully, but I didn’t notice any extra side quests afterwards, I could buy the human units in the tent thou, idk if you have access to them if you chose more *direct* approach;).

Maybe it's just me but doesn't the savegame scanner kinda ruin the fun of the game? The anticipation before entering a castle or shop and browsing the goods? I know no-lossers use it to get a "perfect" game, which in my mind is sort of cheating.

I went for no loss as well, but then I realized that 50% of the game is based on LUCK, well screw it then.

Half half, because sometimes you won't get a unit AT ALL in large numbers. What if it was a unit you wanted? aka Black Dragons which cannot be sacrificed for. Or you get it so late in the game that it hardly matters.

Or what if a certain spell doesn't exist at all or only exists in a certain quest that you wanted to do differently?

What if you relied on a certain strategy so you needed at least 1 out of 3 spells and it turns out none of them spawned at all?

It really sucks to play the game (which can take a lot of time) only to end up in an undesirable situation. You end up restarting... again and again and hope you will get that right combination. OR just "play" it as is... well sometimes you won't get any good level 5s that you want; they simply might not exist in that game!

A lot of this could be eliminated if the game had some 'fixed' settings. I noticed so far the game seems to statically allow for

a) 3 trolls in House of Jotun
b) summon phoenix scroll via elemental mission

Possibly the 4 archdemons too in demonis.

I think this is a GOOD thing if they hold some static items. I also noticed twinkling boots seem to be available fairly often. I think it is good since it helps reduce the need to scan.

That said, there are areas where the saved game scanner "fails". There are random chests that can be generated throughout the game during battles given a certain time/day number of battle / what level you are, what terrain you fight them in, etc.

Sometimes you can get very good items from here that the scanner CANNOT pick up since it is pseudo randomly generated.

I got a call of nature scroll in the first island even though the scanner said it didn't exist.

In armored princess I got some Ghost Armor which the scanner said did not exist normally. Very lucky battle/chest for me.

there are a lot of more or less fixed settings actually. the units on sale on the first couple of islands seem to be more or less the same every time (Battle Maidens are found in different places), the Jotun Houses obviously all have some Jotuns on sale, and there are all the scrolls and items you get from quests which are more or less preset (I noticed the Heart quest from Gulford gave me a Deathstar instead of Armaggedon scroll once).

And I think that is cool. Maybe a tiny bit more, because it feels odd that sometimes someone has a "really hard" random saved game and others have a "really easy" one. I think the challenge should sort of be more leveled rather than spiky.
