Recent update on steam does not run .

Dear All,
The recent automatic update on steam does not run on my machine. I must point out that I am using the XP64 OS and DX9. What happens is I hit fly and the mission gets to the end of the loading sequence, then it says the launcher has a problem and needs to close. I click on OK and it goes to desktop. Could you please give me some advice on what I need to do.
regards,
Pike.

AFAIK it is not XP friendly. I do not know if anyone runs latest patch on XP. Win7x64 is the way to go.

Pike it didn't run on my machine either automatically. I had to click "verify game install", then it asks me to update the file system to a newer version and after I did that Steam started to download the update automatically.

No, that is not what I mean...........it updated and finished. Then I started the game up hit fly, it loaded, got to the end and said that the launcher had a problem. I hit OK and it CDT'd

Have yo tried to go online, what mission type are you trying to run, how much ram memory do you have?

Pike 10-23-2012 08:19 AM

No I have not tried to go online........I have tried quick missions only. I have reinstalled the previous patch and the game works again. (v 15866). I have 4 Gig of RAM and the game runs perfectly well now, but if it updates it will not work again!

Try deleting 1c Softclub folder under Documents and reinstall everything from /redist/ folder. If it does not help it is probably XP issue.

What is and where is the Redist folder?

Programs needed to run the game.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover\redist

Do I reinstall the latest patch that does not work first or do I try to do it with v15866?

Pike.

Does not matter for programs as they just have to be in the system. If later or specific XPx64 versions of these programs are available on the Internet you may wish to search for those.

But try deleting 1C Softclub folder after update to latest patch (with cloud off). The game will rebuild it when first launched.

Pike 10-25-2012 11:35 AM

OK,
I did what you suggested.........I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and I notice now that the game has been updated by steam (cannot remember the version and I am at work).
But it still CTD's as it gets to the end of loading up a mission. It has occured to me that because I have installed the game in D:\ mygames that the launcher might assume that the game is in C:\ in the program files (x86). This is because I read somewhere that in this final patch the launcher may be looking in the wrong place as it is assuming that it would automatically install in the correct directory. The thread went on to say that you had to rewrite the last bit of coding but I am not sure and I cannot find it now.
I do think that it is something along those lines and not because it is XP64 & DX9 that I am running. I think I will look in other directories in C:\ for any bits of CLoD that may be lurking.

Pike.

Sorry I got lost there........I uninstalled the game, deleted the soft club file and reinstalled using the redist folder. But it still CTD's at the same point so I am back to square 1. Steam has updated the version however.

i had exactly the same problem with xp, i had no chance but to upgrade to vista if i wanted the game to work which it did only once upgraded

Hi all;

I'm having the same problem(I'm also on XP,dx9);it started happening several months ago with the beta patches. Before the betas everything was working fine without problems.

I've downloaded the official patch from steam yesterday but the problem is still the same as the betas.I'm having an error message saying that "launcher.exe has stopped working after" %95 percent of loading..

The strange thing is that I can play the tracks without any problems with good fps but I just can't get past %95 percent of mission loading screen?every time launcher.exe crashes?

Any help?

During beta test Luthier asked to send him crash-dump files and they fixed crashes based on those files sent in. It looks like either none of you sent him your crash-dump files or the devs did not have time to fix DX9 crashes (they are behind schedule even with DX10 now). DX9 is too old, even BF3 wich has much bigger dev budget does not support it. Time to move to Win7x64 I think.

i recall luthier saying if you had xp you would need to upgrade to play the game so i upgraded, shame i like better xp
