Question on the MSFFB2
 

Hey guys,

I've been wanting to get a FFB stick for awhile. I tried the G940 stick, but when moving the stick it felt like it moved in increments - like you were ratcheting the stick around or something. (There's another thread about this on the simhq website.) It made the stick completely inaccurate. I'm not sure if ALL g940 sticks do this, but I have a feeling they do. I'm not sure how people put up with it :). I compared this to an x65f and CH figher stick - and despite HALL sensors, the g940 couldn't hold a candle to those sticks. At least that's my experience!

So, on to the main point - does the MSFFB2 do this too? How does it feel when moving the stick around?

It has a sensor on the handle and stiffens up when held. In CoD it gradually provides more resistance as you get faster however has wierd spots where it decides to slacken off again. If you are damaged it will shake like hell, it vibrates when you fire. It's an excellent stick.

Downside is that alt tab to windows and back to game loses the FFB and you have to change speed to reinvoke it again (high yo-yo does it for me so I don't lose E).

Plus the forces can be disabled to prevent the sometimes violent shaking by editing the stick profiles. You won't lose the feel of the stick if you do it.

The MSFF sticks are getting harder to find and pricey when you do find them.
I use one and really like it. I bought a 940 two years ago and "benched" it after six months of frustrating use. It remains on the shelf.

I bought 3 MS FF2`s off Ebay in a period of about a month, if you keep your eyes open and remember to bid you can get some bargains, I paid £30, £24 and the cheapest was a barmy £15 incl post and a MS FF steering wheel and pedals set which isn`t my cup of tea but was in with the stick. Some say the red button ones are better, I believe they are the later version, but I`ve got both and haven`t noticed a difference tbh. So keep em peeled for auctions ending mid day on a weekday and you`ll get one for peanuts.

I got myself 3 on the Bay too. Same sort of price, tho' my cheapest was £6.40, I felt sorry for the guy selling it to be honest.

I had occasion to take one apart when the power supply board failed and they are built like tanks inside. The software is a bit limited compared to logitec as you only get to utilize the native Windows drivers but as has been said by Pudfark you can edit the feedback files with a free utility called Fedit. But they work fine as is.

I take it the msffb2 is hands down better than the g940 stick? Lol. Thanks guys, ill be watching ebay :-)

So, I just bought a "new in box" red MSFFB2 from ebay. Am picking it up today! :)

He has two - so now I'm debating whether to get the second one (for modding, spare parts, whatever...). Dunno =-\

I just hope this thing actually works - new in box is nice, but it's still no guarantee.

*Edit* Just got home with my new toy :). It's awesome! I haven't had a chance to edit any the force feedback, but it's great as is. Plug and play on my windows 7 64 bit. I'm surprised how much better this is compared to the g940 - it's truly night in day in the movement of the stick. The g940 felt like it was ratcheting around all the time, the MSFFB2 moves nice and smooth. Unless, of course, there's a good reason for FFB to be active :). This means I'll have to decide - hook up the fighterstick grip to this base, or hookup the warthog grip to this base. */edit*

Anyone have a Logitech Force 3D Pro Joystick? Opinions?

No idea Doolittle - never used that stick before.

I do have another question for you MMSFB2 users...

would you think that the warthog grip base would be too heavy for the force feedback? I know the FFB would be diminished with a heavier grip, and it'll probably be a bit taller than the MSFFB2 because of how I'm planning on mounting it.

I'm hoping to use the gardena hose connector (which you can use to make stick extensions for the warthog) to make a connector for the MSFFB2. This way I can attach or detach the warthog as needed, and the warthog itself will be unharmed :). This will result in the grip being mounted a bit higher than the standard grip. To connect the warthog grip to its base, I can put a cord through the shaft, out the base of the MSFFB2, and connect like normal onto the warthog base.

Thoughts/opinions?

Yeah - I was originally thinking of using my CH fighterstick to place on my MSFFB2. Then I realized I have a warthog and I could do the mod without damaging the joystick, whereas I'd have to obviously rip apart the CH stick to do the mod.

I imagine the CH fighterstick would be awesome, since it's pretty light. It wouldn't reduce the FFB at all.

I guess I'm debating between the two - either using the CH fighterstick grip or the warthog grip.

This (Suncom) F-15 is good if one plan rewire grips buttons/HAT to MS FF2 circuit.*
They have 8 buttons (plus HAT), same of MS FF2 grip and base have.

* In case of Warthog/CH is better keep buttons/HAT wired to original (Tm/CH) circuit due programmablity of original sofwares.

All of the pictures above look awesome.

I will definitely keep the sticks (whichever I use) attached to it's own circuitry. That's why I'm considering the warthog - since I can do so without even having to take apart the joystick. Or I take the CH, and like the guy in the photo above, put the electronics into the base of the MSFFB2.

I'll probably just try out the warthog and see how it works.
