A BoM demo for ClOD users
 

Considering the last declarations, IMHO it will be nice if a sort of "demo" will be available, at least for ClOD users.

My "fear" is the BoM will be exactly as the latest ClOD release with more contents, while a demo release could be a good method to improve users' trust in IL2 series and continue to support it.

Or....
You can wait for those of us who will buy the sequel to tell you how it goes before buying

Sorry, I'm waiting for the reviews. This forum will have many who will say it is magnificent even if it is an unmitigated disaster. And perhaps that it is a disaster when it is not.

ClOD was subjected to a wide range of judgments, mainly due to different performace that users experienced, thus a demo - maybe - can help. Moreover it can be consider as a good sign by devs! ;)

In years to come this game will hopefully have been refined to a thing of great beauty.
I am willing to invest just a little on that hope.

Some other game in development made available a track file that played using the game engine. That would be nice to test how the hardware deals with the sequel, and provide interesting information to the devs about it.

As for a Demo, I'd love one, but I don't think the time it would take to produce one would be worth the while for 1C.

I would read the reviews before purchasing the next game, I wouldn't read anything in here. I remember when the game was first released and how it was our Pc's at fault and the game ran flawlessly for others in here LOL. Then there was the big confession the game was bad and a graphics rewrite was on the cards and the game would be fixed LOL. Now we are told we get the fix if we buy the next game LOL.......... :confused: :shock: :evil: :mad:

I think I'd rather just fly RoF. Spend my money elsewhere that's for sure.

I've always made a point of pre-ordering installments of the Il-2 and gone out of my way to ensure I get my copy on the first day of release. I won't be doing this with BoM though. I've only got a finite amount of cash to spend on this hobby and I need to ensure that the money goes to the most deserving team. Maddox Games is no longer it, unfortunately. They can keep any demo. I'll wait for the sales.

Well, it has a true point. But even if I make myself unpopular with the next sentence: I´ve seen so many people complaining about how unplayable CloD is, and the funny thing is, those people weren´t even able to play the old Il-2 1946 with full settings.
And I never had real problems with this game (performance wise), off course, the sound was, well not so nice, the communications are still...well, shit...(if you have old Il-2 in mind, which communication system they simply could have used for CloD if they´re unable to make a new one.), but in terms of performance, I was always above 30 to 40 fps. I´ve had about maybe 3 to 4 Launcher.exe crashes, and the only time, the game went slightly unplayable, was with one of the earlier beta patches, when flying over London.

So my personal opinion is: If a sequel for this game comes out, I will buy it, because it can´t be worse than CloD is at the moment. And I will tell you the reasons I will buy it the first day I get my hands on it.
1.) I love the original Il-2
2.) I enjoy CloD very much, even it is not at it´s full potential.
and finaly 3.) I think, we all want a new Il-2 which goes the same way as the old one, but only better. But we only get this, if we support the developers. And I think we should support them, because I don´t see much alternative developers for a WW 2 flight sim.

But off course, a demo would be fantastic. 10 years ago, we´ve got demos for every ... game, even on CD or then DVD of the gamer magazines. Now, you have to beg for something like it, and in most cases won´t get it.
Maybe the game developers don´t want us to test their product anymore before buying it. But anyway, we only rent the software so...
(The same applies for manuals, 10 to 15 years ago, we got a game for 100 DM (about 50€ today), and got a manual with about 100 to 400 pages! Today, we pay the same, well, due to inflation I think even more, and we get a leaflet with 14 pages.

But miracles still happen... xD

I for one will not be expecting a demo for BOM. I'm very much looking forward to the release though. I really don't think that pre-orders matter very much to them either, so I won't bother to do so. The shots of the Russian map that we viewed where beautiful to me. Smolensk, Kiev unknown but they looked great!!...as a side note, yesterday I realized that the individual land vehicles are capable of speed adjustment. This should be very useful for historical mission design:cool:

why free demo when you can get money for beta ? ...it worked with CoD so ...

we are all addicted and we don't have any real alternative ( WW II ) so we will take any bone they throw at us .

As for me goes , i will buy BoM as soon as hard copy comes to my part of the World ( but not directly from Steam) . In the meantime i will get first torrent i spot just because of my addiction/impatience to try it ASAP .

I've never installed a demo on top of another demo. This will be one for the books!

the demo question was asked in the lead-up to CoD

the answer at the time was that it would take to much effort to create as a separate item, and would take to many man hrs which they were very short on.

i suspect the answer will still be the same right now for BoM

I paid A$100 for CLOD and was happy to pay that, or even more to get a quality BOB sim. Ok we have problems, we all know the story but I'm still happy to pay $50+ for BOM if it gives more aircraft and fixes. I'm enjoying, the limited scope of what CLOD has delievered. Only up from here! :grin:

There are too many people on here for whom the developers can do no wrong, or no right.

A demo is a good idea to let everyone try for themselves.

A demo ? I assume, no I'm sure that IL2 CLOD customers will receive a free copy of the sequel to download in order to fix the defective product. :)

Or does Luthier really expect that we do a blind bargain again? No, he can't be that naive.

As I can not see anything negative about a free BoM-Demo, I would say: Yes, this would be a good thing....

I bought CloD for 17 Euros, a very acceptable price for hundreds of hours I spent on playing. Call of Duty costs as much as 60 Euro with very limited re-play potential.

If BOM is a better game, good news for all of us. If it fails to surpass CloD, I think price will drop quite fast, and I would happily pay 17 Euros again to sit in the IL-2's detailed cockpit hunting German tanks on vas Russian steppe.

I own the CloD Collectors Edition. When/if BoM is released I'll try the "torrent demo" first, fool me once etc etc.

I spent nearly the same for Cliffs of Dover with tons of bugs, unfinished and no future, if I'm not willing to buy the sequel.....

You got something very wrong about inflation. 100 DM or 50 EUR from 1997 would equal 75 EUR today. CloDs collector edition (with printed manual, pilot's notes and map) was sold for 69.90 EUR by amazon.de at time of release.

And next to this; 10-15 years ago we did not pay DM100,00 DM for a game. They were about DM 45,00 which is about € 22,73 today....but this something we should better not reflect.

No, the only difference is; 15 years ago a game worked fine right from the beginning. 10 years ago we got demos and a game was patched once, maybe twice.

Today, we receive no demo, bugged and unfinished produtcs, lousy support and rallying calls to buy sequels....for about € 50,00 or DM 100,00.

Not on my computer it didn't. The difference as I see it is I didn't spam a forum asking for a refund. Because it did have potential I just let it lie for a few years and then came back when it did it did work. (Bought into it again when Pacific fighters was released.)

Btw those who achieved at Amazon can get their money back, as the description on the box doesnt hit the truth. Successfully tested by some.

I won't buy BoM on release.

I will however read what others here have to say about it, and after ignoring certain peoples opinions for who Clod is perfect already, i'll make my mind up.

Until then i'll continue to play il2 1946.

Who knows, they (the Devs) might somehow actually pull it off.

a demo would be nice, but we won't see it until the BoM is coming near to release.

I think they will go with the demo route, they have to show something to sell BoM after the BoB stuff we've been through.

Given that BoB was a bad release, they're going to make sure BoM works . . .

This willl help because time that will take will introduce the brother of the beast (newer PCs) so that the average joe will afford the beast of a pc required to run these types of games.

They'll know what we want, and what essentially everyone is expecting, yet be able to boil down the essence of what the Il-2 series is known for into that.


I'm sure most will give that demo a spin. And if the demo works, then wild fire of the demo being awesome etc will get those sitting on the fence or on the other side of the fence to jump over.

If not, then the devs have some time to go back to the drawing board and refine the working demo.

I think if Luthier is serious, the demo won't be flawed on a fundamental level. The most flaws will be detail like FM tweaks, adding X weather . . . not basic functionality issues that BoB players faced . . .

Releasing it for CLoD purchasers might be a nightmare. They could have steam accounts, but not everyone bought it via steam.

Well they could release the demo as part of a patch for Clod though. After patching is done, your OS then asks if you can install the demo (as a separate game). So anyone who owns Clod can play the demo.

That will last a day, then the demo shows up on torrent . . .
