Hey guys was looking to get a good WW2 for some straight up action, I was thinking of COD WAW or is there anything better?

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes Of Stalingrad is a good one with two add ons in the near future Pacific and Vietnam.

CoD world at war if thats what you mean has the nazi zombie mode which is fun with others on comms. For a realistic ww2 shooter red orchestra is the only real choice.

I need to check that out... are there any other suggestions?

Battleground Europe - now Free2Play, with limitations.

COD-WaW: online = rabit/kangoroo "run and gun"... :)

For those who are purely interested in single player, what are the best options?

I like RO2. Some of the new maps are really nice. I got to drive the tank on that new map with the bridges and man, what a turkey shoot. I got something 220+ kills. All live oponents.
I was lucky enugh to have few smart cookies covering the tank against AT troops and they got a bunch of kills too. We drove the fascists from our motherland. No iron crosses that day, only wooden crosses.

The RO2 single player campaigns are short, however you can set up a server game and have you and 63 AI soldiers going toe-2-toe with objectives. It is fun and the maps are great, you can even lead a platoon.

well if you want a game where you really have to think and plan an effective strategy, nothing comes close to the old but still good Hidden & Dangerous 2, where you're part of a small team of British SAS Commandos, playing in incredibly versatile scenarios and with the possibility of actually giving orders to your squad (or planning their tactics and let them execute them on command).

Hidden & Dangerous 2 Sabre Squadron is the latest version, I really hope they'll get back to it and deliver a 3rd series!

I still get a blast playing Darkest Hour, the western front mod for RO. I wanted to like RO2, but just couldn't get into it. DH is a bit like IL2 - graphically a tad old, but with solid play and a whole lot of maps, vehicles and new features over the original RO.

It's MP only (as is RO2 effectively), but, having nervously dipped my toe into those waters a few years back, I don't think it's worth playing an FPS (or combat flightsim for that matter) in SP

Agree with RO2 (and Darkest Hour).

Brothers in arms series is good for single player, you direct squads as well as fighting yourself. I'm replaying hells highway at the moment about operation market garden.

I had BIA and the authentic maps are great but the gameplay is intentionally porked by forcing you to do flanking manuevors on almost every target. THe devs force this to suit the gameplay ideas. You could be 20 feet from a kraut standing behind sandbags and wouldnt be able to shoot him becasue of some invisible barrier, you would have to flank him to get a kill shot.

Wait!

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD ON!!!

What about the medal of honor series!!!
MOHAA :O (The d day invasion was awesome - same time period as saving private ryan/ The band of brothers? - as a young teen, i loved it!)
MOHAAS :P (Jumping off the C47, British Enfield... mmm :))
MOHAAB :)
....
ill admit tho, MOHPA ... my pc couldnt run it at the time :'(, not to mention the game engine was s**t?
MOHA brought it back! (Loving jumping into the 'soup')
MOH Tier edition 1 is ok, but i have completed the single player campaign

I also enjoyed playing DOD's (Day of Defeat source) but this is all multiplayer based!
I own RO1 & 2 - never got to the online gaming with no 1 much, but i tend to enjoy that RO2 battles - shame they couldnt get it right on release...

Hidden and Dangerous 2 was another good game!

I would also mention:
Return to castle wolfenstein
BIA Road to hill 30
WW2 GI
