..meanwhile, in the IL-2 1946 MOD R&D labs...
|
They separate mods or part of a pack?
I've got the DBW, UP & HSFX and obviously a vanilla version installed |
the 109 3d cockpit is being developed by Freddy, the same guy who did the Sabre and P-47 cockpits (and the mustang some time ago, which I can't find anymore). They should go in Histomod, but I suppose that once they're all ready he'll release them for the other mods as well.
I particularly like the possibility of switching the gunsight reticle on and off, other than the rest of the details of course! The latest Gurner FX and general updates available on the SAS Hangar are fantastic, they just need a bit of tinkering but they're sound! |
I've got a modded up DBW version - I wonder if any of this will be compatible? Love the new 109 cockpits & variable lighting .

Well looks awesome, we need him on COD now.
Perhaps he can fix the Spit cockpit first, I mean its only being over a year  and still nothing works in it correctly compared to the 109... |
The visual effects look great. Does anyone have a link to the SAS thread for this? can't find it
It's inexplicable why the COD dev's & 1C are not opening up selected parts of COD for the talented modders to improve content & funtionality. IMO this could only serve to (1) improve flagging interest in the sim (2) release the dev's to concentrate on the game engine (3) 1C gets a better overall sim product "for free". |
I often forget just how fantastic il2 '46 can still be. I just wish they would put all the good stuff in to one pack.

il2 46 cannot be compared with CoD. Look closely at il2 46 aircraft and objects. Yes, il2 46 looks fine on Youtube, but closer comparison reveals that il2 46 is a previous generation.
I've been with il2 since 2002 and it was the best. But time has moved on. Best Regards, MB_Avro. |
Well at least it works! ;-)
|
As nice as it looks, it will be useless unless every single flyable has a similarly developed cockpit.
How long will that take? Or is this just animated control switches and not full real CEM/cockpit management? |
Il-2 1946 (with mods) has a far more convincing air combat experience. I have yet to see a fighter or stuka badly hit grenade into "a million pieces" in CloD, for example. CloD has a long way to go before it surpasses '46. All these years and it still seems like I've only experienced a fraction of what it has to offer.

Thanks Sterjnaeger.
Out of frustration I popped into '46 4.11.1 last night on a mad dogfight server. Yes, its dated although those new graphics look good. Flight models felt a bit 'soft' but that may just be me. Enjoyed it for a manic half hour and wouldn't mind getting onto a more serious server again (SpitsVs109s was empty). The gameplay is still there. btw what is Histomod? I have an outdated UltraPack and the vanilla 4.11.1. |
all you need to do is getting on sas1946.com and get to do a bit of reading, there are mod packages meant for online, offline etc...
there are continuous developments and upgrades, it's really really engaging! They recently introduced 4000x4000 resolution skins for aircraft for instance, v good stuff indeed! |
|
I just don't know why they (histomod) stay in 4.09

I guess there are even more different types (game versions) of server now? |
A major downfall of 1946 is the constant infighting of the modders who only allow 'their' mod in 'their friends' pack. They don't seem capable of getting on for the sake of everyone.
I haven't installed 4.11.1 and HSFX yet though, will try it again soon. |

I downloaded the v4.3 of Gurners effects and copied the folder into my MODS folder. When running HSFX 6 I see none of the effects shown :(
|
Have you loaded them via GJSME?
|
I can't remember the mods structure completely ( haven't modded il-2 for well over a year) but doesn't it read the files folder before the mods folder? With this in mind, you may find that the game is reading effects files in the files folder first.
|
Yep, that's right. Files folder gets read first. ;)

The only thing that puts me off with all these different Mods |
you should try the FW190 mod and the Tiger33 sound mod, that is even better than CloD!
|
They need to unite the clans! Unite them!
I've always played vanilla IL2 46, I love all the mods and they look and sound great but I wish there was just one giant mod install where it has the best of everything. Until they do that I'll stick with Cliffs of Dover. |
Thing is the installers have a jgsme for #UP# but not HSFX 6. HSFX is only in folders so I can't add it as a jgsme installer. If there is a jgsme installer version for HSFX 6 I'd appreciate it (as-well as the viewing distance mod at the other forum!).
Would love to get these effects in HSFX 6. Cheers, MP |

Wonderful thing about so many mods, there are tons of options. 'Best' is different for everybody. There is no way to make one big pack of the best stuff because the best stuff is different for every single user. But seriously, what is so hard about adding a modact? Nothing. What about downloading and dropping certain mods into said modact? Nothing. How about adding a pack like DBW, HSFX, or UP? Nothing. It just boils down to how much your willing to put into reading/how lazy you are. |

Then play stock.
Modact is primarily for offliners, end of story. Really simple: Online=HSFX/UP Offline=DBW/Modact Of course any can be used in whatever way you wish, but above are the packs and their target audiences. Nothing would fragment the IL2 "Community" more than limiting it to the stock game. I dare say it would be long dead by now. Point is there are options out there for any and everyone. Make an informed decision instead of just being lazy and bitching about why no one plays an ugly, cartoonish decade old game anymore. |

But I still see 46 as a bird with far too much make up on, yea sure she looks nice and you would do the deed but when you get down to the nitty gritty and take of the make up? However..The newest Mods are sweet...I installed the gurners FX pack (think thats what it was called) and it has Sound bugs in it when in cockpit, its these things and ive had plenty of them that put me off it all. |
Bird? Wearing makeup?
I just had a mental picture of bigbird dressed as a street walker. |

I just fired up my old 4.09 modded install, and everything is faultless. Overmodding (installing say five effects mods on top of eachother) is what leads to small bugs. |
It would be great to use this in HSFX 6.0, is anyone able to create a jgsme installer for HSFX 6 as I only see one for UP3?
Any help getting this into HSFX 6.0 would be greatly appreciated ;) Cheers, MP |

Hi mate, thanks for the suggestion. Sadly I already tried that and no effects showed up :(
Wonder if someone can create a jgsme fod Hsfx 6 ? Cheers, MP |
If I recall correctly Gurners effects takes a bit more than the standard GSJME addition, you have to add other classfiles/folder to the mods folder. It works perfectly in my HSFX install, just no time to play it.
saw this over at SAS today, figured Id post it here. http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/328...2012135918.jpg |
Im not sure what you did or didnt do puma, since you didnt say anything other than it doesnt work, but heres what you need to do as far as I can tell from the instructions on the mods thread:
Put these in the mods folder http://www.mediafire.com/?p13cz0bmdcxkedl http://www.mediafire.com/?94p75ap8y782ubb Put this in JSGME mods and activate http://www.mediafire.com/?3gusjafkxk3sj9b |
It was installing the HSFX into the JGSME folder and activating it I missed. I had just put them all in the MODS Folder....works perfectly now, thanks.
Now all I need is the tracer ricochet mod I used to have....it would be a heavenly place! The steam effect when strafing locos is great too! At-last! Cheers, MP |
Riccochet is already included in gurners effects, as far as I know. Are you not getting them?
Glad it works for ya! Go bomb London and marvel at the copious amounts of smoke! |
