Hurricane Summer, pt. 1 - new video by me...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6OPX...ature=youtu.be
(Best seen in fullscreen and 1080p)

I'm back online in "Il-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover", flying on the ATAG server. This time I am trying the Hawker Hurricane which isn't nearly as popular as the Spitfire. And, true enough, it doesn't have the performance of the Spittie, but it is a nice steady gun platform, and if you catch a Messer in a low energy state you have a good chance to do him in!

Flying online in CoD is fantastic fun. I hope it shows in this video. The rest of the story of our intrepid Hurricane pilot will be told in "Hurricane Summer, pt. 2."

Well done

Great video.
The first bit sounds like you have a crewman on the wing tapping on your canopy LOL.

Yeah, there is a sound bug with Brit planes on the ground when they are at idle... I think.

Still is a great vid top notch.
Specialy the ditching, enjoy your swim? LOL:grin:

Dano 08-16-2012 01:41 PM

Never had that bug myself, sounds more like you have a control that is constantly switching something to me.

Does the mouse pointer not annoy you? I always move it off screen for the sake of immersion.

PotNoodles 08-16-2012 01:47 PM

I thought I was bad until I saw your video lol. I think you need to learn energy or whatever they call it rather then keep stalling out like that.

Freycinet,

After watching this, I'm reminded of the drug dealer who gives out free samples, so you get hooked. Now, I can't wait for your next installment (my next fix, as it were).

Great movie. Keep'em coming.

binky9

ps: about the stalls, try using flaps in those sharp turns.

As always - great fun! I have one question: It looks as if you are able to keep the "pip" more or less centered most of the time .It seems to jiggle around a lot less than mine with TrackIR5 in both Axis & Aliied planes.Do you have a specific keystroke command or am I just seeing you use the lean forward towards gunsight utility most of the time? With the Allied center line gunsights it is a bit easier aiming than off line German ones.I got spoiled with the old Il-2 keystroke of a constant centered 'pip".
I look forward to Part 2!

I only have that sound when other planes are near me on the ground, and only Brit planes. It comes when their engines start. So I'm pretty sure it is connected with that, but I'm intrigued by the fact that you've never heard it, and I'd really like to hear now if others have that sound as well! The cackle when other engines are running nearby...

I zoom in and out by holding down a button (on my joystick) and then moving the mouse forward and backwards, so the pointer has a tendency to show up all around my scrteen. You can actually see it go away when there is zooming going on.

I need the pointer for when I'm using the on-screen controls in the cockpit. I use the mouse for all non-essential controls that I don't use during combat... Sorry if it ruins the immersion, I see where you come from,, but haven't found a workaround... (Tho I seem to remember that you can have MSI Afterburner NOT capture the mouse, I should look into that..)

Oh, but I normally fly much better, just wanted to pretend that I was a newbie pilot....

...NOT! :-D

You will have to pay for that one, though: I'll release it as DLC via Steam ;-)

James, I just use a run of the mill TIR profile with a deadzone in the middle. I hate the idea of zooming while leaning forward, so I have completely disabled that, though. My movements forward and backwardfs only take me closer to the instruments, they don't zoom in on the outside world. I also never use the "gunsight view". Maybe I have just gotten good at sitting still?

Thank you Frey, another excellent installment!

Freycinet 08-16-2012 09:09 PM

Thanks fork-tailed devil!

Flanker35M 08-17-2012 06:44 AM

S!

I like Freyci's vids :) They have a genuine feel in them :) It shows he enjoys flying. Felt the same years ago and watching these vids makes me feel nostalgic :D

Freycinet 08-17-2012 08:08 AM

Flanker, I lost the joy for a period, and found it again with CoD :-) It doesn't go away for always!

Flanker35M 08-17-2012 09:25 AM

S!

I lost mine as well. I flew on a daily basis since 1997 to somewhere around 2008. And I mean a lot, just not an hour or two. It went as far to become an addiction interfering with RL as I wanted to get better and better. Then the burnout hit and I quit flying for several years and gaming too.

These videos bring back the feelings everyone should have, the relaxed fun and enjoyment. Not the nitpicking or too serious involvement as it tends to be at times. So keep them coming. Maybe these clips make some people find the FUN again instead of the teeth grinding ;)

You can hear my voice in a lot of the TeamSpeak chatter so I will have to claim my share of any profits when you start selling the movie rights ... Actors equity and all that old boy

MB_Avro_UK 08-17-2012 07:28 PM

Excellent as always

Best Regards,

Nice video, I especially liked the take-off sequence at the start. I'd be interested to see a full length online bomber-escort mission (minus empty travel time) done in the same style.

DUI 08-20-2012 08:56 PM

Great video - very inspiring! Made me just fly on ATAG for the first time with the new patch.

Btw: Why don't you put your video(s) in the video section? I nearly did not find it...

When you get close up why don't you just lean forward and pause your track ir? That way it won't bob about at all.

Toni74 08-21-2012 08:49 AM

did you use teamspeak to communicate and was there a special radio filter in use? sounded very good and realistic.

JG26_EZ 08-21-2012 09:47 AM

Good vid. I hear that F10 will make your mouse pointer vanish until you use your mouse again.

Friendly_flyer 08-21-2012 07:51 PM

Great video!

The game looks great, and the action is not too bad realism-wise!

Hi Toni,

ATAG_Colander made the WWII plugin for TS3. It can be found in the team speak section of our forums.
