Release Beta through Steam
Is there any reason why the beta patches are not released via Steam? I've held off installing it as I don't want to muck around with my installation too much.
I don't know what the mechanics of it are or if it is too time consuming or expensive to release a patch via Steam. It makes sense to me to do it though. Hood |
They're not released through steam because they're beta patches. You just answered your own question :)
They're for testing. |

Steam has to verify patches before the roll them out to their content servers. RO2 required a separate beta client download in order to separate it from the official version.
Its easier for them to release them for us to downlaod, its pretty difficult to mess up your install with steam- if you get anything wrong you can verify the integrity of your game and it redownloads to the official version. |
They do not release the BETA via Steam because there are still features disabled!

Hood, install is dead easy. Just drop that folder in and go. I would clear your cache before starting though.
Try not to get your hopes up though..... |

No beta patches on steam? Wroooong! http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...7-on-steam-now

It costs money to put a patch through steam so until it is finished there is no point pushing it through.

It's doable but complicated to do it on Steam. I also play Team Fortress 2 (that cartoon shooter, awesome laughs all around) and the way TF2 betas through Steam work is that you need to install a completely separate version of the game.
It's simpler and takes up less disk space to do it like we currently do. Unrar into game folder, try the patch, if you don't like it tell Steam to "verify integrity of local cache" and it will revert to the previous, non-beta version ;) |

I know of several people who refuse to fly COD until the patches become official, and get distributed through Steam. they had too many bad experiences, and even though these patches are finally close to being worthy of being offical release patches, those people really want to fly, but want them officially relased.. and hope that the gods who are in charge thake this in consideration... and make them official... after all these years, the next patch shold be made official and put on Steam...
IMHO all those who concur, please speak up... |
