Effect for next update...

That's can be in the next 2 updates:

Craters http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.ph...c,25569.0.html

Water http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.ph...15180.216.html

2048 pixels http://dispersalfield.ru/main/index....pic,705.0.html

LowerParticuleEffect Important to add this in the next update. I'm sure you can download the mod and put them has an update.

I would like to see some other bullet effects... in real ww2 footages the 50cal looks very different as in the game. I like the gunsmoke from your video @nic727

THX, but it's not my video:grin: I don't know how to download mod and when I try with step to step, it's didn't work. It's why I want this in a next update:-P

secretone 05-28-2012 05:00 AM

Very Nice!

These effects are really great. I'll bet that even my ex-wife would like them...well maybe not... But I like them!

nic727 06-03-2012 02:13 AM

Another video I found :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U5YIPOLDl8

In the video you can see blur effect (because the pilot is tired???)

at 5:55 3D smoke
at 6:42 3D crater model

Bonus video : Submarine simulation in Il2 1946
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJfy42RpIWU
But you need OpenGl water=2 and higher what I don't have :(

Snake 06-03-2012 08:15 AM

This is awsome! Why TD and SAS guys don't shake their hands?

nic727 06-03-2012 07:41 PM

I don't know. If they do that, it can be a great update :)

Treetop64 06-10-2012 06:48 PM

I'm wary of most mods, but I gotta admit, these smoke effects are mighty impressive. What's the cost in performance?

ElAurens 06-10-2012 07:11 PM

The blur in the first video is a post process cinematic effect that is over done and utterly unnecessary. Any pilot that had vision that blurry would have been pulled from active duty.

As to the submarine sequence...

Absurd. No submarine that was attacking an enemy task force would be actively pinging its sonar. It would give away their presence to the enemy escorts.

Someone has seen too many Hollywood movies about the war and thinks that's how a simulator should be.

It is NOT the pinging sound of the submarine's sonar. It is ASDIC, probably from an escorting destroyer, in sweep scan modus. Therefore the multiple pings in regular interval. It is per se not unrealistic, though IRL no submarine kaleun would stay in the periscope depth when ASDIC was around, let alone raising his periscope. But I guess the most daring (and foolish) one would.

Treetop64 06-10-2012 09:22 PM

I think that might only be just a video someone threw together, with periscope and water splash "filters" added for effect.

You are quite mixing up different mods here.

Most interesting one is indeed the 'lower particle effects' mod, which is seen in the last video. It is aimed to be less hardware intensive.

But we won't just "download a mod and release it as update'.

martinistripes 06-21-2012 10:09 AM

Some really nice effects there. Would love to see something similar integrated into the main game.

Bingo.
The low particle effects may be a good option for many that arent running a great PC.
But the others there like Gurners effects would probably just outright kill lesser machines!
I like it though.

Then why not to do one yourselves? :D It's a great improvement to the game.

Wiesel 06-21-2012 03:49 PM

WOW! That smoke is awesome

nic727 06-21-2012 08:31 PM

:o

But for people like me when you install mods it's don't work, it can be great to add new effect in-games.

Ya but that just means your doing something wrong.
Lots of help out there to get them working.

Sadly after going to the link....the MOD files have been removed from mediafire (Pack 1 and Pack 2) so those effects are not available :(

Shame as they look brilliant and if I'm right work with UP3 RC4?

Anyone got the packs they can link to?

Love the gunfire...looks superb!

Cheers, MP

CWMV 07-24-2012 08:07 PM

Most of the best if those have been integrated into gurners effects 4.3 over at SAS. It also has options to make ground smoke visible from up to 50 km. Very nice indeed.

Pips 07-24-2012 10:32 PM

Just luv the ground explosion and smoke effects. Would really add to the immersion effect ingame to have those (or something very similar) smoke clouds.

At present the effects of ground attack are rather sterile.

Mysticpuma 07-24-2012 10:33 PM

Hi CWMV, I am running UP3 RC4. Does Gurners 4.3 work with that? Also could you possibly post a linl to Gurners thread please?

It look like it doesn't work... I don't know why, I just found that 2 months ago, but now I think it's closed, but in the last page, the date is June 10th or 1st, 2012.

Hello all, in order to avoid any misunderstanding or discussions gone wrong, DT is currently cooperating with the author of the above shown effects. We are trying to support him on programming levels to enhance the effects even further. We will communicate it in our development update when it is ready. So yes, DT plans to enhance the visual effects in the future.

mmaruda 07-27-2012 10:27 AM

Just about when I was utterly bored with IL-2 and about to move on for good, this happens!

Big cheers for TD!

WOW thx TD

Mysticpuma 07-27-2012 07:17 PM

Seriously, the effects that are shown in the video are really just brilliant. Anything that TD can do to incorporate them is really very much appreciated.

I realise that the Poly count or particle count can cause issues and working through them is challenging but just adding a touch of 'candy' to the effects would help the immersion incredibly.

Really looking forward to seeing the updates, cheers, MP

Well, the best one would be that it'll be in 4.12, but I won't be mean :D

It could be nice for directX user to have water like Rise of Flight did in the latest update.

New Water Rendering Techniques

We have already showed you a picture of new water rendering techniques that we created specifically for sea maps. Judging by the reaction on the forums, you liked our work, even at this early stage. It inspires and helps us to solve such complex problems, but the image does not convey the dynamic part of the concept of "sea". And today we show a short video in which a familiar ROF barge is put in the new water. This video will help you form an impression about the technology itself. Of course, you will have many questions and we will prepare a separate more detailed story for a blog with answers, videos and pictures in the future. Until then we answer the most important question - yes, we were able to make this technology work on the mid-range PCs. Current tests by our core test team prove this is true. We really wanted to do this to not only be revolutionary and beautiful, but above all, make it accessible to most users with average personal computers.

If you mean 2004 specs, then, yes. Il-2's polygon limit for some objects might be reached before a user with a semi-modern PC would have frame rate issues.

RegRag1977 08-21-2012 01:14 PM

Sensational

This is truly sensational and is going to be really great. Truly one of the most beautiful/realistic effects i have ever seen, and i tried many.

The very good point is that there's a very good harmony between all effects, smoke, hit effects, explosions, fire... Wow! And it has a really "natural" looking, very beautiful...

My question: is this mod what we will really have for IL2 1946 stock, right? It looks too good to be true...

ElAurens 08-21-2012 03:50 PM

I'm worried about the frame rate hit that this may cause. If it can be implemented without causing big dips in FPS, then I'm all for it. This performance will be critical online.

Kittle 08-21-2012 04:16 PM

I am running a fairly crap computer from 2009, and I mean it was fairly crap then. Dual core AMD @ 2.5ghz, 3 GB RAM, nVidia 9800GT 512MB, and I run these effects just fine. I have to say I think most people will be able to run these just fine these days.

ElAurens 08-22-2012 10:16 PM

So, what is the frame rate hit, really?

I cannot believe that with that much partical effect being rendered all over that it is not seriously degrading frame rates.

You could see it in the P-38 sequence.

Too much smoke frome the ship stacks as well, those are not coal burners.

I think there will be a bit of a hit but I think the penalty can be made quite small. Still a lot of simple bitmaps being manipulated in some very clever ways.

ElAurens 08-23-2012 01:35 AM

I don't alway like to be the skeptic, honestly.

Those effects are very, very, nice, be sure.

It's just that I've been "had" before with this or that effects or texture mod.

I really hope it works, but I also hope there will be a switch to have standard effects if it doesn't.

IceFire 08-23-2012 03:17 AM

A switch would be great for sure. No idea if that's possible.

I know the TD guys and the focus is definitely on the high quality. If there is a FPS impact (and it'd be surprising if there weren't)... I imagine it will be relatively small.

What kind of system are you working with? Unless it's minimum spec I think it'll be quite alright. I hope so anyways.

nic727 08-23-2012 03:26 AM

I'm running the game on a small laptop with integrated Intel HD Graphics and run the game at 30 fps to 50 fps. I think with these effects I will drop to 25-45 fps... These effects are low fps drop.

martinistripes 08-23-2012 10:50 AM

Very happy to hear about the future effects update. :)

I don't know if it is possible but it could also be a new line in the conf.ini file, or more conveniently, a new line in the game video option setup, i mean something similar to what we have for clouds, landscape, object and visibility.

Hi, not usually posting here but I thought it should be noted that Rudel and his friends were using high explosive Flak rounds instead of AP against those Russian boats as they found it was more effective especially on water. If the effect is modelled according to that video, it might not be as spectacular with AP round in real life. I'm reading his book right now.

However the effects are still amazing and while I don't know how AP on water should look in real life, those are still millions better than the tiny default IL-2 splashes for Ju-87G.

IL2 doesn't support DirectX. When you run it in that mode it just wraps OpenGL for compatibility. So adding any feature that uses DirectX is unlikely.

Tuco22 11-23-2012 07:14 AM

Is it possible for ricochets to be modeled or is it not possible with the engine?

Regardless of whether richochets can be modeled, I'm not sure they'd add that much to the game due to the relatively simple damage models for ground objects.

About the only time I've heard of richocheting bullets intentionally being used to attack foes is when bullets are "skipped" off water or hard ground so that they "bounce" into the side of a lightly armored boat or the underside of an armored vehicle.

Since there are lots of variables you have to get just right (angle of attack, compressibility of the surface, bullet drop) and whatnot, it's probably more of a shooter's legend than a valid attack technique (unlike skip bombing, which is modeled in the game and which was regularly used during WW2).

Even if its not doable in terms of modeling damage from a ricochet it would still be a great visual enhancement which is more what i was leaning towords.

Shardur 11-23-2012 11:46 AM

I thought ricochet are already in the game? Might be a mod, but since I have seen ricochet in IL-2 it's definitely possible.

Also as far as I know the tanks damage model might not be the most detailed but there are different armor values for the front, back, sides and top.

Very nice effect.

Anyone use ENBseries? Actually there is a converter to add dx9 effect to dx8 games (i.e. GTA), but (i think) need to be correctely configured to work in IL2.

I think they have to put that in a "must see" section to put that in a patch :)

Might be OK offline, but I'm guessing that would put my frame rates in the trash bin and my computer in the hospital.

Not as bad as you would think, but the cloud mods are more of a hindrance at this point.

ElAurens 02-13-2013 11:30 AM

I have tried some of the earlier cloud mods in the past on my mod install.

Can't use 'em.

Pretty to just fly around sight seeing, but if combat is part of the plan they are just too heavy of a load.

nic727 02-13-2013 03:41 PM

Do you think it could be possible to add some kind of grass.
Not like that : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BY-lLSiYbc, but in 2D and just appear in a small area around your plane.

and have this water in an update :
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.ph...c,23714.0.html
and retexture the 2D water and ground texture :)

And whats more, AI cant see through clouds, but they only see the stock ones. If you add huge mod cloud textures the AI can still apparently see through them.
Kinda negates the excellent work on the AI we've seen of late.

ElAurens 02-14-2013 01:52 AM

Interesting, I did not know that.

CWMV 02-14-2013 02:01 AM

Well I will add that this is based on the observations of many offline players, nothing official from TD on the issue of course.

Nik-why grass?

Pfeil 02-14-2013 02:36 AM

It would make sense that the line-of-sight of the AI is checked against a primitive(sphere/cube) or a 2D rectangle at the location of the cloud, which is independent of the texture.
Using the actual cloud shapes would require some type of raytracing and is very performance intensive.

Amazing effects!IL2 on steroids!
I'd really like if they incorporate, since it saves you from all the troubles that might (and sometimes, will) happen when you install one or more mods.
Still waiting for TD to finish IL2 to get into this mysterious world.

Comparison of 4.12m and the Orginial Low Particles/Low FPS mods (What's your thought?)

Hi,

I just re-watch this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AUwv0qIZIc

and you can see that the smoke from the plane is longer and is more black than the 4.12m version who look like green-brown.
You can see that the fire have some red flames in it (2:10) and in the 4.12m video, the flame is like the normal flame (white and yellow) and is in circle. It could be nice to have better flamme like this photoshoped flamme : http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/2144/ju52flamming.jpg

What do you think?

PS: I found that too

I think we cant really comment on it until we see it in 4.12

Whoa, whats that? The winddriven Smoke columns are that what I'm looking for.
That looks so real, I love it.
Will that be implemented in 4.12.1?
I mean, a computer that can handle ClOD will play with it.

The Il-2 works just as Clod for me, at least above Berlin

Berlin was a bit a Problem, I had stutter and total freezes especially with Boelkes "Reichsverteidigungs-Campaign"

But is this an actually existing mod or WIP?
