Damn! Methinks I'll be buying that one.

GF_Mastiff 03-17-2012 01:51 AM

May 25, 2012

I'm on it been waiting for this for a while!

GOA_Potenz 03-17-2012 02:12 AM

look like a WWII ARMA i'm on!!!

Hooves 03-17-2012 02:29 AM

yeah this IS arma, or at least its Engine. I hope they have possibly made some changes to the animation system that ARMA uses. That is by far the worst part of the game. Well that and that god forsaken use menu lol. The models look good and there are even some aircraft! I'LL pick this one up for sure.

danjama 03-17-2012 02:54 AM

First ive seen of this. My oh my, am I buying it!!!

Heinz Laube 03-17-2012 03:19 AM

damn i hate music in gamevideos...

seems i get grounded this summer, except it has a non-arcade FM...

Flanker35M 03-17-2012 06:29 AM

S!

I have been waiting for this one :) Finally a WW2 tank game! Last one that was good was Panzer Elite ages ago. If this Iron Front is more like a sim then good bye World Of Tanks and it's arcade! Planes in it..forget it! Time to roll some heavy steel!

CaptainDoggles 03-17-2012 06:35 AM

Wow, that first pic with the Airacobras looked real to me until I saw the people.

Pretty impressive lighting on the nose of that twin (is that a Pe-2?)

priller26 03-17-2012 06:40 AM

Wow, sign me up for that one, I know what I'll be playing this summer..and what I won't be if things don't change. wink.

Verhängnis 03-17-2012 06:51 AM

Will this be released in Australia? Looks fantastic and the true colour is something that really catches the eye for me. Will it be online purchase only or in stores aswell? (EB games etc)

priller26 03-17-2012 06:54 AM

Fallschirmjaegers with FG42's and correct pattern splinter smocks? Panthers with Zimmerit? Wow, whats not to like...something to look forward to.

Flanker35M 03-17-2012 06:59 AM

S!

The more I read the more I want it :) Seems the devs of this one have really put time into it :) Hopefully the vehicles are more sim than arcade. Airplanes I do not care of, ARMA engine is not known for it's accurate FM modelling.

Well, it looks like a really cool FPS. I'm liking RO Heros of Stalingrad, but we have never been given much in the way of German Paras except for one of the the call of duty or MOH series way back, even then, they were a small part of the battle, and you couldn't play them in online. This looks very promising. Oh, to boot, the trees dont shimmer and shake.

theOden 03-17-2012 08:45 AM

Definite buy.
LibMod guys did alot of nice addons in the early days so the kind of deserve getting payed this time.
Building some warfare/CTI for this will be fun (unless they've cut off the script ability from standard arma).

Kupsised 03-17-2012 10:02 AM

I've had my eye on this for quite a while now, nice to see that it's finally going to see the light of day! As some have said, I hope it keeps the scripting abilities of ARMA in it though, since I loved the ability to record the path of a unit to play it back later. If they've kept it in this it means I can go up in a 190, buzz the countryside at treetop height, then replay the path with me as a soldier on the ground and enjoy the sights/sounds. Can't wait either way!

kristorf 03-17-2012 10:07 AM

Looks amazing

NaBkin 03-17-2012 10:09 AM

Count me in! Awesome stuff, thanks Buchon!

Ploughman 03-17-2012 10:41 AM

I'm going to be on this like white on rice.

DroopSnoot 03-17-2012 10:43 AM

I'm presuming you guys dont mod with Arma2, As this just an arma2 mod, paying full game price for a mod? plus all the issues inherant with A2 will be in that too.
Dont forget the engine will be outdated later in the year when A3 comes out anyway.

BG-09 03-17-2012 10:48 AM

THATS WHAT I call A FRIDAY UPDATE! :D

Didnt know Arma2 was even being modded, shows you I've been spending a bit too much time following one other game...wink. I will pay for this game, its right up my alley, and it appears that since the user modded and I assume free Arma2 works, best bet is the retail release will as well, that is how RO Heros of Stalingrad started out, a mod of the Unreal engine. This looks fantastic to me, thanks for the outstanding Friday update! May is close, and so is summer accounting for a possible delay. Happy camper!

priller26 03-17-2012 11:30 AM

OMG, those screenshots just keep getting better! Fantastic! Setting as wallpaper! Someone did some real fine work with the skins, historically accurate! The panzer crews, all gear, microphones and throat mikes....superb!

hiro 03-17-2012 11:34 AM

sounds great! might be something to consider . . . thanks for throwing this up

You know . . . if this was a Cliffs of Dover / Moscow Dev screen shot,

there'd be 10 complaints on the colors,

some on the grass not shimmering right, something about the trees and foliage not matching Polish ecosystem . . .

the guy's eyeballs are modeled incorrectly, his finger pointing doesn't match the internal skeletal fingers of his hand

but since its Iron Front Liberation II / Arma II engine, they can get away with it.

just sayin' (joking)

Since they related to the possible customers worser than MG did (look at the forum, so many questions unanswered) I'm going to wait for reviews.

Until then I'll play I44 mod.

Wrong assumption.
I do mod, as a creator, not only end-user.
As such, I realize what an insane amount of time these guys have put into this.

I have absolutely no issues at all paying for this as I played LibMod alot before when it was "just a free mod" and know they know their stuff around.

I guess you really don't value the work of all the mod-makers in Armaland?
Nothing wrong with that of course but maybe you should try mod something?

well im not interested in fps games, but the graphics look really stunning

ARMA II with the WWII mod is awesome, really looking forward to this one, great as a squad game.

'im playing Arma2 with I44 mod on. It looks very similar to that one. But I will take a look at it, when it arrive. Yes Arma3 should be out Oktober 2012, but it will take a year or 2 before we see that cind of mods to the new game.

Agree , it looks like the 144 mod for Arma2. Playing with it while i am waiting for a patch for IL2.. Realy nice mission aditor.

highness 03-17-2012 04:06 PM

will be looking forward to get that new game, i have been a hardcore fan of that since OperationFlashpoint1995; so im pretty much sure anything that is made on armaII engine will be good.

Yeahhh I doubt it. If CloD looked this good, had good flight models and could actually be played for more than 45 minutes I'd be very very happy.

Raggz 03-17-2012 06:09 PM

I just hope we get a really good Stalingrad map with this game. The tractor fabric, the grain silo... would make my day :)

I'm an Arma modder too, i mod for my clan not the public. I would never charge money for my mods, also check out the screens its even on Chernarus.
Its not the modding I dissagree with or the hard work thats gone into making it quite the contrary, its the money aspect especially if its full wack game price.
I44 all the way for me.

Anyhow Sorry Buchon i kinda derailed your thread, My apologuies.

priller26 03-17-2012 11:42 PM

Anyway one night we can play i44 together in a private server. Are you guys interested?

Buchon 03-18-2012 02:02 AM

I had installed Invasion44 but its currently uninstalled, my dual core don't have enough power for this, I'm just waiting my overall PC upgrade to reinstall this.

They added new animations, here is the 2.6 release video :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBp9LCFnMZQ

2012 is the WWII year for ArmA2 :)

With Invasion44 and Liberation44 you can have the two fronts, west and east, in one game and with the tactical realism of ArmA2 and his goodies (missions editor ... Coop ... mods ... )

Raggz 03-18-2012 09:18 AM

I'm having a hard time finding missions and campaigns for I44.
Anyone that could be so kind and help me with some links?

Thanks :)

I'm still going to get Liberation, but thanks to all for pointing out i44. I knew it existed but have been holding out from giving it a go since I don't have any experience with ARMA and mods. I've finally bitten the bullet now though, let's see how it goes.

Raggz 03-18-2012 06:55 PM

Well, Liberation will probably be better in a lot of ways since they have access to engine tools modders never will get.

I pre-ordered Liberation months ago and i always welcome any WWII game :)

Oldschool61 03-19-2012 03:36 PM

A BF3 engine WWII game would be great!!

That's sort of how I imagined Battlefield 1943 to be (but with frostbite, not frostbite 2). Unfortunately they never got round to releasing that on PC though, only for consoles, which was extremely frustrating and I never really understood why they didn't release it

Back on (sort of) topic though, i44 is amazing! Does anyone know how to make B17's drop thier bombs in the editor though? If give them a destroy waypoint they fly very low over the target trying to strafe it, then crash.

GF_Mastiff 03-19-2012 06:18 PM

this reminds me of what it might look like for Arma II's engine. Best at HD 1080

danjama 03-19-2012 06:56 PM

I play BF43 on my ps3 now and then. It's fun for half an hour, but theres only 3 maps and a small dogfight map.

I would also love an extensive WW2 Battlefield game.

Firmin 03-21-2012 09:38 AM

We need only ARMA2 for this? Or ACE too?

Nephris 03-21-2012 10:10 AM

No you will need to buy it.
They bought the licence for ArmA2´s Real Virtual Engine, and used it to create a standalone Game from their former planned mod content.
It is a standalone game on the arma engine.

I hope it's goint to have Arma2 v1.60's netcode and optimization.

Thanks NSU, I was holding out for a gameplay video, but that looks absolutely brilliant! Graphics seem improved over Arma II slightly (though I could be wrong). Can't wait for this now though!

Bewolf 03-21-2012 06:47 PM

not bad at all. going by the comments in the Video it is a ressource hog, though, so I am curious how it will work out.
What I really love is the how they created the landscape, that does look as central european as it can get.

Great, Arma engine and WW2 just work well together, even better then a modern scenario given their avionic limitations. I think I'll get it.

Herbs107 03-23-2012 03:47 AM

Is this game a FPS or something a little different? It says you are a soldier either red or german and you can use planes and tanks to attack. I have never played ArmA2 and have never seen it been played either.

Bewolf 03-23-2012 06:30 AM

I'd say it is something between a FPS and an Infrantry Simulator. Rumors says it is used by some militaries to train their soldiers. Maps are huge by any FPS standart, encompassing whole regions or Islands.

Here is a little gameplay vid

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfkje...eature=related

Raggz 03-23-2012 07:00 AM

ArmA engine is a lite version of the VSB engine they sold to the US military. Delta Force uses it for training.

Those Iron Front videos look really good, but in some places AI really dissapointed a bit. Like a Panther sitting still showing it's side or rear to a T34-85 or similar. And in the 2nd video AI was driving around like a gaggle of headless chickens. But I guess the final release might be a bit different. Anyways beats World Of Rus...Tanks ;)

Is this a new version of i44? When I last played it, maybe 8 months ago, I think there were like 6-8 squad sized missions, and 1-2 full platoon/company sized ones? Almost nothing if you wanted to play Wehrmacht.

Still is, for singel player that is. It comes with 11 SP and 22 MP/coop missions. Most of the missions are for co-op or multi-player which is a shame.

Panther..damn it looks good and was a good tank. KwK 75 L/70 high velocity gun, sloped armor etc. I wish Iron Front could be more like a sim than a shooter as there is no WW2 tank sim out there. And no, World of Tanks is not a sim, just an arcade joke :)

Panther..damn it looks good and was a good tank. KwK 75 L/70 high velocity gun, sloped armor etc. I wish Iron Front could be more like a sim than a shooter as there is no WW2 tank sim out there. And no, World of Tanks is not a sim, just an arcade joke :)

they model the tanks correctly from what i understand :) i was in a 10 min battle with 5 shermans i got 4 of them all the while taking hits but got flanked by a firefly ...BOOM!

WOT...played for about 2 hours.... they are working on a jagdpanther

and since youo like the panther...how about a restored running one :)

Hey there fellow pilots,

If you want to know more about this game, then this is your chance:
I've been offered the possibilty to interview Patelaros Vasileios (aka "Panzer_Baron"), Art Director of the Iron Front team. This interview was mainly supposed to be an alternative to the interview being done by ofpec.com, an ArmA/OFP community site, and a chance for the Red Orchestra community to ask their questions, which may differ from the stuff that the ArmA/OFP community wants to know.
But since you guys seem to be interested in the game, too, I also ask you to send me any questions you have concerning Iron Front via PM or just post them here, so I can answer the ones that have already been answered in the official forums.

Best regards,

No0dle

Btw: Have you already heard about the unofficial Iron Front: Liberation 1944 steam group? Feel free to join: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Iro...Liberation1944

Many thanks for the opportunity.

Questions:

Release date?

Will they correct aircraft 3D models before release? Some proportions are very wrong and cockpits have very low details even for an arcade 2012 game. Tank models have more correct proportions than aircraft ones. It is a big immersion killer for a not-fictional WWII game.

Will it have latest ArmA2 netcode version (v.1.60 patch IIRC)?

Can they integrate the Warfare game mode (from A2) in stock game?

When they plan to move to ArmA3 engine?

What multiplayer modes are available in stock game? Any PvP AAS, A&D, etc. missions included?

Thank you. Could you please post a link to your interview when it is done.

Flanker35M 05-04-2012 10:57 AM

S!

A couple questions, surely asked but anyway :)

1) How well are the tank guns been modelled, for example the high velocity German guns, reload times and so forth.

2) Will there be extra tanks like StuG III/IV and of course Russian counterparts added later?

Looks very interesting and that Panther looks so damn nice!

Does anyone purchased ArmA2 via Steam? Does it make it more difficult to install and manage mods than a non-Steam version? I have a non-Steam ArmA2 but thinking about getting a Steam version of Iron Front.

Flanker35M 05-05-2012 10:43 AM

S!

The more I learn about Iron Front the more I want it. Finally it seems to be the time when WW2 tanking has been successfully resurrected and thanks goes to this team creating Iron Front :) I wish they make more content, keep it patched up and all that :)

Some friends of mine have the non-Steam version of Arma2 and the Steam version of Arma2OA.

Many mods require them both, and usually the free Mod-managers can manage the paths to both the version.

We are using Six-Updater (http://www.six-updater.net/p/download.html) and it has this feature, so there should be no problem.

I fear it suffers the simplicity of Arma2 in regard to tanks. Very simplified.

Iam playing a lot ArmA/OA .... do yourself a favour and purchase it via a physical copy or an official Download. Me m8s I am playing with is are bunch of mixed Installations, the default one do an easier life.Steam is fine, but the mod management can be a bit tricky and is always a thing for its own.
I am sure there will be controverse voices, but you are doing a lot easier with a default installation.

No it does not. Since the very beginning of Liberation 41, which was the first mod of the Developing Team ( now Iron Front)in Operation Flashpoint (the original in 2002), they introduced their own armor management and DM. You can check the DM and the pentrtion in some of the videos on youtube ("playing Iron front part 1- 5" or sth like that).
Do not expect a tank combat simulation, like T34vsTiger should have become, as ArmA2 is a military Sim,but mainly adapted for infantry battles. Similar to flying in ArmA2...it works,it does its job and looks good, but you cant compare it with Il2 flying of course. Thus I recommend everyone who never played Arma2 to dowload "Arma2 for free", to chekc if the gameplay is suitable for one.At the end it is more a simulation than a shooter. More nights on our server, where i fired just one round, and did most in pathfinding etc., just as example.

Story:

Iron Front – Liberation 1944 is set in Southern Poland during the Soviet Offensive in the summer of that year, when the infantry and tank as well as aircraft units of the Red Army and the Wehrmacht engaged in fierce combat. It was the first time in history that the "Königstiger" tanks fought with the powerful JS2 soviet tanks.

The Germans’ objective is clear – consolidate and regroup the remaining troops, stop the Red Army’s advance at all cost, or at least slow it down. As a Red Army soldier, the task less complex, but no less challenging: Break the resistance to enable an attack on Germany. Starting out as a simple soldier on either side, you will experience nerve-wracking, tactical combat – always caught between your orders from your senior, and reality on the battlefield. In the course of the story, both protagonists will be promoted to command tanks and even fighter planes in addition to their own troops. However, the player does not have to do all this on foot: Using their computers, tacticians will control tanks, including the famous German battle tank Panzerkampfwagen VI or "Königstiger" and the Russian Stalin tank JS2, or fighter planes such as the Focke Wulf 190 and dive bombers like the Stuka or the Petlyakov PE-2.

Online is where the battle really heats up in "Iron Front – Liberation 1944": Players can either complete missions cooperatively or compete with each other in special multiplayer modes such as "Capture the Flag" or "Attack and Defense". "Iron Front – Liberation 1944" also includes an extensive mission editor, enabling players to intuitively create their own missions and share them with their friends online, thus guaranteeing that there will never be a shortage of new missions.

It is rather infantry tactical simulator. Tanks and aircraft are arcade but better than BF3 IMO.

New video review!

I got my review copy today. Unfortunately there is a problem with it. Hope it's solved tomorrow :)

Kupsised 05-07-2012 09:43 PM

Thanks for that, it looks surprisingly polished! I was expecting it to look good and to be quite good, but if it's as good as it looks in that video this is going to be a really pleasent surprise!

Also, it's nice to have a video with English commentary too! The subtitles were fine, but then I find I spend more time reading them than actually watching the video, which is probably why I'm so surprised by how polished it looks :D

Wow! New kid on the block has some impressive ground models for WW2 battles

tintifaxl 05-08-2012 07:00 PM

That one has been on my radar for quite some time. As the preview states enhanced damage model for the tanks, this one could become a very good ww2 tank sim.

Original ArmA2 has head bob adjustable in the settings screen iirc.
