Does it get any better? Cheers! |
Fantastic game. GOTY infact! i must be about 14 hours in on the 360 version so far and sad to have to do the responsible thing regards appropriating time. i could spend all day in Skyrim. for me its the first seriously tidy role playing game that has succesfully managed to loose the clunky nature that goes along with the genre whilst not thrusting the mathematical nature of numbers in my face.
please no spoilers ! |

You need to mod Oblivion to get a respectable game, it can be pretty awesome but it's hard to do.
I had 94 mods (Including three major overhauls and elements of two others combined with FCOM running through Wryebash) and it made Oblivion waaaay better than the stock version which was pretty dull. Skyrim does look like the business though, can't wait to upgrade so I can play it. |
Oh yeah, funny thing, Skyrim (released today) is a 2011 game with a HUGE beautiful world and I'm running high/ultra settings on my modest rig, no problems. This is how a game is supposed to be released.

DX10
for the moment |
That sounds promising, maybe there's hope for my poor old 9400GT to render Skyrim after all...
(Not gonna hold my breath) |
another game that looks more like a console game, awful interface for pc and some of the textures are not nice looking.wish i hadnt bought it.
not many pc only games nowdays.still its had some excellent reviews. |
its great
the grapfics at some points looks good yeah they should make it with the PC's in mind |
Game is only DX9, tho for some reason it comes with a DX10 installer?
the graphics are decent, really good considering... but the game really puts you in the world, feels like there's a daily life, a routine for every person you meet. its got a really dark tone to it, kinda reminds me of lord of the rings... the world is crumbling down everywhere, orcs and zombies and ghosts everywhere destroying everything... the 3rd age is ending.... getting ready to start the 4th... kinda thing... well im lvl 6 so far... will see what happens... |
fighting that first dragon was pretty damn cool. whos allegiance quests are people following ? ive decided to go down the companions route to witness something ive been waiting an age to see done well in a game. \o/
im itching to get the PC version now as it will defiently be a nice expereince with some mods. |

Its not even dx10  |

So what kind of flight sim it is? WWI, WWII, KOREA, NAM.. Are the FMs any good?
|
Got the game 11/11/11 as well for 360 and I do like it better than Oblivion so far, though after Oblivion and Fallout it does feel very familiar even with the new UI.
Graphics are gorgeous imo for a six year old by now (God, time flies) console. Looks and feel are much more gritty, which I happen to like, the color pallet is not boring at all even with the grittyness. The gameworld seems to be extremely large, just like Oblivion. Played so far until reaching lvl6. I am liking the new skills allocation quite a bit. Also the new crafting system is extremely nice and adds depth, smithing, alchemy and cooking. Gone is the deterioration of equipement which may or may not be a good thing, I would have liked to see that in this game too. Not sure if I'll get it for the pc though, maybe. |

I baught it on steam and playing on PC. AWESOME fun. I am a level 12 now in 3 days of solid playing. HACK and SLASH with 2 handed and single handed weapon focus and Fireball throwing. I have a horse and baught a house. and Slain 4 Dragons and Have 7 Shouts but only 4 usable so far. Need to kill more dragons .
Oh and the game runs smooth as silk on ultra settings with my rig. no issues. much like il2 COD. 3gb 580gtc hoots. running latest beta drivers |
Anyone else get the ghostsword :D
|

Honestly when I read about the complaints about the pc version I am for once happy I got the 360 version. I very rarely bought any pc game on the day of release, got to let them work out the bugs first and I am certain Bethesda will, given their track record.
I am also certain that at some point I will buy this game for pc, I do like it a lot more than Oblivion after playing until lvl9. As I said before for a game that has to conform to 6 year old hardware it is absolutely gorgeous. The variety on how the game plays out for eveyone is just always amazing with Bethesda games, their games are the definition of open world and individuality, despite of course having a main storyline. I think anyone would be hard pressed to find a console game with such depth and maturity. I rarely buy anything for myself for the 360, most titles are just too "fast food-ish", glad to see there is still more out there than the infamous console generation of gamers. |
Well no show stopping problems on my PC and after trying oblivion on my console I wouldn't even think about playing skyrim on one.... Just nowhere near enough buttons.

So that bloody annoying weapon out line is only on PC GRRRRR....
|
This game is beautiful .... there are some bugs though, I was was watching the salmon jumping up the rapids last night and I'm sure I saw a rabbit do the same.
|
Well, at least the PoS3 doesn't fail like the 360 does/used to do. I am on my 4th 360 (original) and that one now finally gave me/my son the middle finger as well. Good thing a while ago I bought a 360s, let's see if that one will hold up better. Yeah, yeah, well ventilated space, keeping it clean and all, just a big hardware lemon from microsoft.
Ghostsword? huh? Oh, yeah. the werewolf thing. Don't like it really that much, I feel more like an idiot with big claws than a dangerous stalky predator. Got to see how that plays out...hmmm. |
Btw, Skyrim PC version has FXAA, just have to check the box. Playing it that way without "normal" AA, no jagged edges.
And the character cast include Christopher Plummer and Max von Sydow . |

Only fools would miss out on the awesomeness that is Uncharted :P |

I have to agree, Uncharted is a great game, not only by it's looks, but overall, the only series I ever played on the PS3, still have to buy the new itteration of the series.
Btw, the empire's general Tullius in Skyrim is voiced by the guy who played the XO in Battlestar Galactica. Does anyone know what the steam download for Skyrim was on 11/21? I think I see a new file in the up until then empy file tab of the game launcher. |
console versions go away, we have mods you don't

Ah, I see, looks like it's time to head on over to their forums to see what's going on with the patch.
I sure hope they are going to make the dx10 folder functional. |
Hmmm my son has just started hassling me to get this for him. He has a PS3, but if he gets the PC version I will have to upgrade it, as he is using my old one.
So, comparisons between the two platforms would be useful... Anybody? |
Uther, this is fact-based-speculation (if there is such a thing :D), but I have it on the 360, but I've read reviews for the PC and from how it handles on the 360 and the PC reviews I'd say go for the PS3, not the PC, simply because all the menu's etc. are clearly designed for a console and don't work so well on PC. I was going to get PC, but the shop had sold out so got 360 instead and am glad of it, even though the PC graphics are probably better.
I might get it again on the PC somewhere down the line if they patch the interface, since getting DLC is much easier then (I'm a Brit living in Estonia and Xbox Live seems very hit and miss here. It's supposed to be the most advanced country internet wise in Europe, if not the world, but a lot of big companies like Microsoft only just seem to be waking up to it), and of course there's the oppertunity to mod, but for now, from what I've heard, I would advise PS3. That's jsut based on reviews for the PC though, so anyone with the PC version, feel free to correct me on that! |

http://www.geek.com/articles/games/s...able-20111117/ Now, I think there's a patch coming out next week for all platforms, I know it's coming for PC because that's what I've got. As for the PC version, you don't need a super PC to run this game well, even on medium settings it looks gorgeous. The interface took a few hours to get used to, after that I stopped even thinking about it, I think it's good. Also, it's much cheaper to get for PC. :) |
Thanks addman!

After a detailed study, I found that contempt is much more efficient time wise and has the additional beinift of leaving you with better self esteam and personal image! ;) Oh! Saw skyrim playig on a friends laptop last night. Even on low settings the graphics look fairly acceptable. Can't wait to see it on a modern gaming rig! Cheers! |

As for the controller, you know you can connect any wired xbox360 controller to a pc and if connected to the internet in win7/vista it will install the drivers in about 30 seconds and off you go with a gorgeous game and a gamepad. There are even wireles xbox360 pc controllers available, but I play it with a wired razor onza (originally for the 360). I do own both game versions (360 and pc) and the pc version looks simply better, especially the textures seem better and draw distance is much higher. |
Razor Onza ! how is that pad ?
i remeber waiting for what must have been about 2 years for that. needless to say i forgot about it. so how is it. ?? how are the tight/loose sticks etc etc ? |
Quote:
Now you're making me wish I had got it on the PC. I got a super-PC to run CloD so it needs as much use otherwise as possible. The only other reason I got it on the xbox is that I wasn't the one who bought it, the missus did (I am blessed to have a missus who also plays xbox. Shame she doesn't like flight sims as much!), and she wanted to play it together on the TV, so I got lumped with it :D |
The Razor Onza I got is the $50.00 version, I think they have one cheaper one.
The adjustable sticks I left in their most loose position, can't really find any use for tightening them, but that is just me. The best feature are the additional remapable shoulder buttons, you can remap any button of the pad to them, naturally I mapped the clickable sticks to them. Having 4 shoulder buttons takes a bit getting used to. The A,B,X and Y buttons are hyperresponsive, like that a lot. The D-pad I do like better as well than the original. All in all the controller is rather light weight, feels quite delicate and that is how you start to play at some point, light button touches, delicate movements of the sticks, if that makes any sense. I happen to like the pad a lot, some people seem to have issues with the overall "lighter-more delicate" design, but if you are not into button mashing anyways I'd say get it. Little edit to my previous post, I have everything maxed out, exept the draw distances, I increased those so far only by one. And yes, it's great to have someone who understands the need to get into an alternate reality at times, be it a flight sim or a game like Skyrim. The more I play Skyrim the more it draws me in, the quests are much more interesting to me than in Oblivion, even though the basic tasks are of course the same (go there, fetch that, kill this). The areas that open up at times after entering a "dungeon" are quite surprising and at times you find yourself just looking at you new discovery saying "would you look at that". |
I have it on the PC.
If you've got a PC that can play Clod well, then you are in for a treat. I have everything absolutely maxed out, with some extra things turned on via the conf.ini's that are off by default and some better textures. It is truly stunning to look at. I love watching all the different weather effects rolling in, and the northern lights look beautiful. I saw it on my friends PS3 the other day and pissed myself laughing at the difference, can't imagine playing it on a console, lol. I am well and truly addicted to it at the moment, level 42 mage and kicking some serious ass, double casting incinerate ftw, casting destruction spells and restoration for nowt now. Getting enchanting to a hundred made life much easier! few random screenies, http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...enShot74-1.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...enShot69-1.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...enShot58-1.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...enShot54-1.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...enShot49-1.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...enShot24-1.jpg |
THere is a reason why I Haven't been active on this forum for the last two weeks.
I never thought they could top Morrowind after the Oblivion dissapointment, but this game...it does not fit into my PC games collection, it is a different beast entirely. http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/59...41618FCD5C673/ random encounter, purely by chance. Blows other games full fletched cut scenes out of the water. |
anyone know where i can spend my 24 unspent dragon souls.....
|
Would it be all right if you posted the changes you made to the config file?

Btw, I run my steam client pretty much every day and in the list of top sellers I am very certain I have seen Skyrim at no.1 since it's release. Even today with Assassin's Creed Revelations now available Skyrim still holds the no1 spot, Revelations at no2. |
Looks like Skyrim just went on sale (33% off) on steam.
|
Yep 33% off. I'm downloading it at the moment. Going to be interesting.... Never tried this game genre before.
|
S!
Skyrim was coded in some ancient code X87 or similar as one gamer pointed out on another forum so do not expect any drastic performance increases without big changes... |
Got it for my son for Christmas on ps3. He's been gone for hours...

My advice, be patient, I remember the first Elder Scrolls game I played was Morrowind and I felt a bit overwhelmed by it. Above all, take it slow and have fun. And yes, it is a dx9 game, though there is a dx10 folder, maybe a future patch ? But performance wise I don't think anyone will complain, the game runs and looks rather beautifully. |

A new Nvidia beta driver is available, it adds ambient occlusion to the skyrim options in the cp, plus skyrim now actually shows up in my cp, whereas before the only executable I could find was the launcher.
Nvidia also states a performance gain with the new beta driver, can't confirm it, but at least I did not have a perfromance drop with the added ambient occlusion which I guess adds up to a net performance gain. The Nvidia website also has an article on tweaks to make the game look better available. |
