What no siren????

I love the modelling of the Stuka...but it has no shreiking siren option.I realize with the other sound problems it may seem to some a small problem, but honestly Ijust don't see( hear) how it was overlooked...

Disable the buildings maybe?????

smink1701 07-23-2011 03:04 PM

What ever number you want to use...4, 5, 6, 7 years of development...and the sounds that are in the game or have been left out all together...wind with open cockpit, landing gear, lawn mower, etc, etc, it just boggles the mind. IMHO most everything in the current game is a place holder but the good news is with the dev team creating all new sounds and guys like Jafa and Big Pickle doing their thing, maybe this porked part of the game will be fixed in a few weeks/months. Hopefully not years;)

The stuka had a siren at the very beginning of its use, they quickly realized the siren diminished the stuka's performance and by the time of BoB, they had removed them.

This has been discussed a while ago on this forum.

Too bad though, it would have been fun.

JG53Frankyboy 07-23-2011 03:10 PM

äääääähh, the CoD Ju87 model has the sirenes designed!
So, they "should" work......in the future or 1C should remove them from the model.

Are there air raid sirens in London, when under attack..

That would be awesome

exactly
but the sirens already exist in the model
so only the sound dont exist....

jamesdietz 07-23-2011 05:11 PM

Yep they are there all right...and yes eventually they were removed , but if they could get the sound right it would make diving towards those ships & other targets so much more fun...

Yes totally agree on sirens in London & elsewhere as well!!
So many things done well in Modded Il-2 that the developers should have been looking & listening to...still we can look forward tio the bright sunlit highlands of new upgrade...

If the sirens were not used in BoB they should not be in this sim.

Blackdog_kt 07-23-2011 06:35 PM

Since the map is also useful for battle of France scenarios, maybe we could have optional sirens once the new sound engine is done.

Imagine this:

1) Go to the loadout screen, the part where you choose what guns and bombs to load on the aircraft. For the Ju87 there is a siren option.

2) Enabling the siren gives the characteristic sound during dives but negatively affects the FM, disabling sirens gets rid of the sounds and gives you some extra speed (just like subtracting guns currently affects the aircraft's weight and handling).

3) Depending on player preference or the mission/server settings (eg, BoB or BoF scenarios), it's possible to have any of the two configurations.

;-)

hahah... Actually if you get rid or your LCD monitor and play with a good old CRT monitor this issue is magically fixed.

skouras 07-23-2011 06:52 PM

if in RL they don't use them
then fine with me no problem
but they should removed them and not having them without sound

They did use them in BoB, i have original sound archives from the battle and the sirens are in use. Considering the Luftwaffe did meet any serious opposition till BoB the lesson probably wouldnt have sunk in to well, so i conject that it was probably BoB that taught this lesson.

This also adds something to a game called "atmosphere" or "immersion", which are currently lacking.

It would be quite disconserning sitting in your cockpit warming up the engine and hearing the siren start up!

I guess I'm a victim of 40 years of media missrepresentation of the stuka. I never knew they disabled the siren.

Does the original IL2 stuka have a siren?

Cheers!

retrojet 07-24-2011 03:27 AM

Well, hopefully the re-do of the sound files will incorporate a lot more than just sirens!
:-D

I think it worked on a dynamo like principle but would aniciate when at a certain, speed/mode of operation, so the siren wouldnt sound on regular flight unless the dive break was extened.
I did have a cutaway diagram of inside a stuka's wing and it appeared to contain a small rack full of loose balls that could shake and vibrate when exposed to airflow not sure what it did but i presumed it was something to do with the siren.
I'll look for it and post it up if i can find it.

Stukas were sporadically using sirens into 1943, depending on the unit. They could by turned on/off by disengaging/engaging a cable operated band brake. There were at least a few pilots/gunners who rather disliked the sirens and who, though their aircraft may have been required (by the CO) to carry one or both of them, may not have actually remembered to release the brake(s) during attacks.

FG28_Kodiak 07-24-2011 06:29 PM

At early Ju87 there was no way to disable the siren, but many Pilots are nerved by it, so in the Ju87B2 it was possible to turn it on and off by the pilot.

So, if 1C is deciding to let the sirens on the CoD Ju87 Modell ans will make them sceam -
They would also have to model someting in the cockpit and ad a toggle command in the keyptions :)
