Sound bug... tress, potential fix??
EDIT: *** turn trees OFF to have reliable sounds in MP *** It WORKS!
I read in a post a comment about how the sound bug was related to the graphics tree setting. (but the thread was not on this subject) I did a quick search but can't find any info on this. Can anyone shed any light on this...my game is on the shelf until the sound is more reliable in MP. For the time being i'd happily sacrifice some eye candy for sound! Thanks. |
Yes, i tried it last night and it works so far on the SYN server, some people have said you can have trees "low" but not tested that yet.
|
Yes, the switching off of the trees solved the problem for me and four of my pals.
|
Excellent, so the fix is to turn tress off?
Great find! I look forward to playing CloD this evening for the 1st time in ages. Thanks lads. |

Whoever found this.. THANK YOU! works a charm!
Just tested it.. sound was perfect, no stuttering, no blips.. excellent, the game is back on! Game was unplayable with constant sound issues. (i only play MP) You can't even tell trees are turned off above 1000ft anyway. Baffling that the tress cause or solve this issue. THIS FIX SHOULD BE A STICKY!!! |

Trees off and you can have sounds in MP, i must say this is a weird game.
I really hope new sounds make this game better, there is something really weird in gamecode. |

because, their trees are made using the speedtree library. a poor implementation might have left some tree sound triggers into the models / code, therefore overhelming the sound system with (empty) tree object sound calls.. |

Ive also found that sometimes sound will still cut off in 3rd person view.. But by zooming in the camra closer to the plane the sounds will come back.
|
This makes sense. I've always flown with trees off and have never had any problems. I suspected it might be DX9 (since I had that instead of DX10), but there you go.
Another vote for stickying this! |

This may be a feature to make it much harder for people to hear aircraft approaching their six. Removed........................................... .................................................. .......... text You did post it before and I deleted all the off topic and flame posts |
I've been running without trees for ages* and I still get the sound cutting out.
* And not for any nefarious reasons; they're just a flickering ugly mess at the moment. |

It varies how long it takes but one thing I would mention is that it happens a lot more in Repka's full real server than in their non-full real server. The full real one is the full channel map with loads of AI flying around and the other is one of the tiny Jurassic maps; the only AI as far as I know is a ship or two. Maybe this is a factor, maybe not. |
I just flew for two hours on the syndicate server trying the trees off thingy.
For me it worked! And had that stupid Bofors not Pk'd me, i would still be flying. :D |

I wouldn't know where to start....it came from the shop like that (Overclockers.co.UK appropriately enough).

Win 7 64bit
Intel 2600k 3.4ghz (Default Clock) Asus P8P67 Deluxe Rev 3 Mother Board Asus 580gtx 1.5gig 8 GiG Cosair RAM @ 1600mhz 3TB Hitachi HDD @ 6gig/sec Antec 1200w PSU OC edition Samsung 23.5" LCD Monitor 1080p 1920x1080 IN Game: 1920x1080 Res Every other setting set to MAX, except I turned tree's off as mentioned above. Sound cuts out after about 10-15 minutes. It always happens when a voice actor states an aircraft is in the area, but not the first time it happens, but it defiantly is still happening. I've made CPU usage a log during game play that includes the sound cutting out, and there is no change of performance. |
Sound issue in general
Out of interest (as i dont know myself) but does anyone have sound issues offline... similar to the online problems?
Yesturday, online, i had no problems with sound (only Mr X and two more players where on) for a good couple of hours..... then when i rejoined later with about 15 - 20 players online... i began to have sound issues within 30 to an hour of playing... Sound problems linked to online and other players :S Ross |
Its just random mate, the only workaround at the moment is to turn all the trees off, I know it looks rubbish but its the only way to get it to work.
|
I think it all depends on your system or your install. I run the game at virtually maxed out settings with unlimited everything (including trees) and the only thing I had to do to fix the sound issue in MP was mute the AI voices. I play for hours on end without a sound problem, if ever, after doing that.
I also have an XFI Titanium sound card. |

I may try without the tree's at some point and see how it goes... |
Just for extra info, i love my eye candy and have everything maxed, but with tress off once you are above 1,000ft you really can't tell the difference. Considering i tend to fly at 10,000ft plus this workaround it well worth it.
(i didn't know about the AI voice method as well, gonna try that with trees on and see which is best) |
Ive had the voices off for months(they are just awful) and i was getting the sound bug.
Only thing that works for me is trees off, low didn't work. But i disagree Tommy, its UGLY with out the trees. |
there is one solution to fix the bug until the game runs: Put the F2 button very fast and few times (or another viewbutton). After a while the sound comes back! It´s tested you can believe me!
|
Not if you play on "no outside view" servers, but thanks.

Has anyone tried to cross check system specs to find a common setup that exhibits the bug?

What I think is On Topic is to vote for the entire trees concept to be changed in Insubers 'Priority Bugs....' thread: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=23405 I'm trying not to spam all threads with this but I think it fits here. |
Went online to actually fly for the first time in months (i only had short test runs a couple of patches ago) along with a buddy.
I joined Syndicate, turned off voice, music and set trees to very low (i had them on low anyway). I can confirm that after 3 sorties of about 1 hour each (more than three hours of flying) i didn't get the sound bug at all, despite running things like skype in the background which further stressed my meager 3GB of RAM to the limit. Sounds were there for the duration of my multiplayer sessions. |
This worked for me ....... thanks
|
Bored to reset, I removed all the trees and the sound is perfect now for me it works
