Hurricane night intercept - new youtube vid by me (best seen in a darkened room)

It's night-time!

OK, trying something new here: night flying. Before you watch the movie, I have to tell you that it won't work at all if you sit in a well-lit room. This movie is very dark and can really only be seen in a darkened room.

Anyway, going up at night really changes the whole game. Depth perception goes out the window, as well as situational awareness, and is replaced by a pretty scary feeling of being out of one's depth! - Fleeting shadows and silhouettes could be anything, friend or enemy... It is really quite spooky. I'm full of admiration for those who went up at night in real life. Must have been horrific.

Enjoy this one, and as always, comments very welcome!

Nice Frey!

lensman1945 07-17-2011 03:59 PM

Brilliant!

A whole new dimension at night..loved the sunrise effects and the cockpit lighting.

Thank you for entertaining again!

raaaid 07-17-2011 04:01 PM

wow those search lights feel so weird:confused:

Freycinet 07-17-2011 05:00 PM

What do you mean by weird? - Apart from the glitch of part of the ray sometimes flickering out I think they look great.

furbs 07-17-2011 05:07 PM

they do look quite thin, but still look great.

Freycinet 07-17-2011 05:15 PM

Tracer too thick, searchlight beams too thin, damn' they can't get anything right, can they? ;)

furbs 07-17-2011 05:26 PM

Frey im sure i remember somewhere somebody said something about a config entry that controls the number of lights in houses at night. might be worth checking that out.

philip.ed 07-17-2011 05:32 PM

Very nice video, Frey!

raaaid 07-17-2011 05:52 PM

you can make a batsignal with a search light move beyond speed of light py pointing instantly to planets millions of light years apart ;)

senseispcc 07-17-2011 06:11 PM

Fantastic, thanks.

AARPRazorbacks 07-17-2011 06:12 PM

Thank for the video.
Now this is what a CLoD forum is suppose to do.

Help others learn how to fly the sim.

Freycinet 07-17-2011 06:14 PM

Well, I learned how to set up searchlights in this forum, so that really came in handy. It is a little bit of an involved process, but well worth it.

Ah, very interesting that! If anybody knows more about this I'd like to hear it! - Because it does look a little bit stupid that the cities appear like Christmas eve in peacetime... :)

Shado 07-17-2011 06:35 PM

Brilliant, thank you Frey.

Freycinet 07-17-2011 11:50 PM

Glad you like it! - I'm back to flying daytime missions.... - Don't think I ate enough carrots for night-time duty... :)

Blimey Freyci baby, you nicked all my ideas! But you do it so much better than me!
Nice vid, cheers!

Good show!

jimbop 07-18-2011 04:49 AM

Just great, Frey. Does anyone know if there are any guides to getting started with making CoD vids? There are a couple of things I'd like to make a video of but am somewhat daunted about getting off the ground (so to speak).

Here you go Jim. This is a guide for IL2, but it's the same principle.

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...8/m/6011062176

Warning! This will lead to hours spent in FMB setting up that scenario you always wanted.

There are much simpler ways though. I simply record a mission, edit the views and perspectives in the in-game track editor (but the one in Cliffs is very buggy), frap the whole edited track at full speed with sound, then cut bits out and swap them around in windows movie-maker, adding music or speech as required.

As with all things, it can be as easy as my way, or as complex as Joe 90, barfly and biltongbru's offerings.

It is very addictive once you see your first results though.

Here's one of my first attempts from years ago as a bonus, done in IL2 with a pentium 4 and a ati 3850 (agp). Spot all the terrible stutters and bad editing!

Sorry for the hi-jack Freycinet!

Freycinet 07-18-2011 02:59 PM

Be my guest, I don't mind bumping.... ;)

My movies are as simple as they get: literally captured on the fly as I play the missions (Because I saw some slightly annoying inconsistencies in the track files). I might move a bit beyond that simplicity later, but it won't be before the summer..

Perfect - thanks Dutch_851 & Frey. I can think of worse ways of wasting a few hours!

raaaid 07-18-2011 04:47 PM

i really love those searchlights

could you pu like 500 hundred searchlights?

would that be posible?

ATAG_Doc 07-18-2011 07:22 PM

The winner is...Freycinet!

The light doesn't move there faster just because you point at something far away :)

Thanks, but others make movies that are a work of art, I don't! - That one would go to Tinus Le Roux.

ATAG_Bliss 07-19-2011 12:42 AM

Nice one Frey.

I noticed your spotlights seemed fairly still. Last time I made something with the spotlights (month or so back) they were spazzing all over the place when enemies approached. If this is fixed, night missions sound much more appealing ;)

LcSummers 07-19-2011 06:15 AM

Hadnt time to watching it but now video is buffering, so in a few minutes i can enjoy it. Never flew at night.
Thanx again for some amusing minutes.

raaaid 07-19-2011 09:45 AM

someone could make a cathedral of light in the game :)

if you project a batsignal in a giantfastic screen the batsignal is posible to make it move faster than light

actually that nothing can travel faster than light is false the true statement is info cant travel faster than light though only till quantum entanglement get broken

this is scientific and interesting on faster than light "something":

I didn't see them spazzing but I also only had three groups of enemy planes, the Dorniers, their escort and a lonely Bf-108 that had gotten seriously lost... :)
