Sense of speed
 

It is only me but i think i don't get enough of sense of speed at low level flight
90 fov is little better but with default fov i don't get sense of speed.

Solution: use 90 FOV. You just solved your own problem.

Sense of speed comes from amount of details and on how fast you fly past them. Larger FOV = more things on screen = better sense of speed, especially if you can see things passing close to you (like grass at sides of your plane). Even 90 FOV is too low for good speed feeling, because human FOV to which we are used, is wider than that.

Is one of the things the most difficult to simulated and that´s so with near all simulators. If you fly a MiG-29 with Lock On, very low you have also the same sensation; it no so fast.The lack of peripherical vision is one of factors.

its not that there is something wrong with the sim in that regard, it is your own monitor that is probably to small (and you also might be using wider FoV setting then you should for your monitor size)

if your monitor is large enough (or you use several monitors), and you have the correct field of view set for that monitor size in-game, then flying low over the terrain will give a pretty good "sense of speed"

right now most people are sitting in front of relatively small monitors (yes, 24' is small compared to the 180 degree vision most pilots have, and theperipheral parts are the most important), and in order to "see more in-game" (have better peripheral vision) many people set an artificially higher FoV for their monitor size, that in turn shrinks ingame object sizes, so it does the exact oposite of what you are after (it is important to keep buildings and trees in their correct sizes)

Place a giant fan behind/over your monitor and link it via devicelink to the speed output in the sim and if the canopy is open/closed.

That way you have your sense of speed ;)

Put a 40 inch Samsung TV 4feet in front of you, and have TrackIR5.

To test speed in the game take the quick mission flying over water.
But chose one of the bomber, Ju88, He111, Br20, or my favorite the Blenheim IV.
Fly low, very low, less than 300feet or 100 meters.
Make a track and look at it.
Change the position to the bomber crew in the nose of the plane. :grin:
Staggering how lower how better.

Yeah, it's to do with your peripheral vision and such that gives a sense of speed. Next time when you're a passenger in a car, cover up your peripheral vision and see how much that reduces the sense of speed. It's the same deal.

So yeah, get a biiiig monitor and increase the FoV.

lol dont buy a bigger monitor to get a better sense of speed hahaha.

You'll get worse performance with a bigger monitor, and worse image, due to refresh rates being lower with larger screens and also avoid plasma.
22" is optimum for todays cards unless your talking HIGH end cards.

A simple solution to creating a sense of speed would be to have post process and a very slight motion blur at the edge of the screens. If it could be turned on or off by choice that is :-P

No one said it was a cheap solution :P

Adding the blur and some kind of post process to speed up the rate at which the pixels move on the outer edges of your monitor would probably look seriously weird and cause all sorts of weird visual stretching in every view. If you don't speed up the movement of the outer image past the view, then all you do is get blurry slowness, not more speedy visual effect I think.

Probably the easiest thing to do is fly with no cockpit view. That way, you'll see the stuff passing under you, which is closer, which will move quicker.

Or fly looking sideways out the window. Don't worry, those trees won't hurt a bit.
