Guess the aircraft - Friday Update 01/07/11

http://www.flickr.com/photos/64714588@N04/5890587187

As there were virtually no guesses on the update thread I thought I would start a dedicated one.

My guess is I-153 or I-16.

But I want it to be a FW-190 :D

Orpheus 07-04-2011 01:56 PM

There's a plane in that pic?

JG52Krupi 07-04-2011 02:08 PM

Yes Ilya mentioned it. The guy on the right with the circle for the engine and wing root joint on his monitor... Not a lot to go on tbh.

Orpheus 07-04-2011 02:09 PM

Ohh, the stargate-looking thing? Ok.

No idea what it is lol. FW190 would be nice though, yeah! Would rather have a flyable Wellington though ;) I'd like to see all the stock planes become flyable before they add new ones.

Strike 07-04-2011 02:22 PM

there is one aircraft I'd seriously go nuts over to have ingame, and that's a B-17G or B-24. If they EVER pull that off, it would be crazy. Just imagine, 4 engines that need individual management, all the control systems, bombs, fuel, crew positions, .50 cals you name it!

But of course we DO need a 190 to blast it down with :D

JG52Krupi 07-04-2011 02:24 PM

I don't recall b17 in Moscow... Did they receive any under lend lease?

VO101_HWick 07-04-2011 02:27 PM

I is going to be a Mig 3 nothing else

Dano 07-04-2011 02:28 PM

It's an La5.

BGs_Ricky 07-04-2011 02:33 PM

Someone on the original post by Luthier mentionned it was an aircraft that appeared first in the Battle of Stalingrad, so I guess that if it's true Dano is right with the La-5.

JG52Krupi 07-04-2011 02:37 PM

Not an la-5 this is moscow not Stalingrad (unless it covers a larger time line).

Not a mig 3 as it looks like a radial engined aircraft.

sorry slipped a little off topic, my answer is indeed the FW-190. As it will be very useful on many fronts and theatres.

Have to add to the speculation of it being a 190 too

Dano 07-04-2011 03:41 PM

It's an La5, Luthier has confirmed it on the sukhoi forums.

Feathered_IV 07-04-2011 03:44 PM

I-153. The poster in the original thread was confused as to the location of the next addon. He thought it was Stalingrad, despite it being called Battle for Moscow.

@ Dano, can you link us to that? It'd be just like Luthier to give a willy nilly planeset and not focus properly on the period at hand. Hope it's not true.

Yeah...I'd second that,I would love a nice European War sim addon,B17F/G,B24's,Fw190's,Bf109G's,and maybe if we were very lucky the 163 Komet, wow, what a scenario, good call Strike.

I gotta tell ya,I can't get worked up about going back to the Russian front personally, but there ya go.

Tree_UK 07-04-2011 04:01 PM

Its Olegs personal jet........

Strike 07-04-2011 04:07 PM

I think it may be the turbofan part of this new aircraft.

May be olegs personal jet!

Well we already have the lasers!! (runs and hides)

Ataros 07-04-2011 04:38 PM

La-5 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavochkin_La-5 , introduced in Battle for Stalingrad http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Stalingrad .

I guess the plan is to cover one huge battle per year. For 1940 it is Battle of Britain, for 1941 - Battle for Moscow, for 1942 - Battle for Stalingrad, etc. Then come back to Western Front hopefully.

Pacific is not included I assume due to expensive royalty fees for modelling some (or all) USA aircraft.

JG52Krupi 07-04-2011 04:45 PM

I assume that the la5 will still fly like a UFO....

Scurries off..

Mr_Steven 07-04-2011 04:46 PM

Yeah, that's the UFO they modelled the '46 La-5 after.

TUSA/TX-Gunslinger 07-04-2011 04:53 PM

Well - compared the frontal view of Su26, FW190A and La5 with the pic on the developers screen.

Looks like an La5 to me also. Wingroots are too small for 190 (if that's what they are :) )

Technically the wing roots on the 190 would not be seen in that picture. The 190 was constructed with a whole one piece wing compared to the 109 that had separate wings :-P.

Ze-Jamz 07-04-2011 05:10 PM

Also..

Is it just me or does it look like the beginning of designing a Tie-Fighter

fireflyerz 07-04-2011 05:58 PM

Fw190 and those are the fan blades . . . . . . . .

Sternjaeger 07-04-2011 06:03 PM

..yet another example of devs "challenging" our intelligence

Dear lord microsoft translator is bad it only translated half the page :D

fireflyerz 07-04-2011 08:27 PM

A.380 then....

hiro 07-04-2011 08:30 PM

wish it was I-16 . . . they need an aircraft that will get me kicked* from late war campaigns because the host server ninja forgot to exclude it on the plane list / or figured no one would really want to use it.

*chaika is another one, it was just funny, I couldn't shoot people down but they certainly couldn't hit me either so it was just funny to drive all over the map.

Feathered_IV 07-05-2011 02:33 AM

Thanks for the link Dano.

I guess it is the same as choosing to make the G.50 flyable in BoB, when it didn't even take part in the actual battle. Poor planning again. I do wish they would try to focus more.

Not so much if it's got the new CEM to do it justice: you need to use 5-6 separate controls every time you want to change your power settings ;)

I think it could still be a 190 if these are not wing roots but the little teardrop shaped fairings on the side of the BMW's cowling. Well, at least that's what i'd want it to be, despite Luthier's confirmation post :-P

carguy_ 07-05-2011 10:42 AM

So it`s a Lavochkin La-5. Good news. Means there also will be a 109Gustav > : )

I they are planning the battle of Stalingrad after Moscow, we won't be seeing the FW-190 as there were none at Stalingrad....:( (first 190 in September '42 with I/JG51 over Leningrad front, then with the rest of JG51 and JG 54 over Northern/Central sector).

Thats true, this depend on the fact that battles are done with a filtered planeset, or periods...? Or on the current map, 2-3 types selected by chance?

No. The usual way is that they introduce a type that is out of sequence like this, then leave you frustrated and hanging on for an indefinite period until they fill the gaps and make the original aircraft relevant.

Besides the planes license problems that almost killed it, there are a lot of other reasons not to return to Pacific. It wasn`t popular in IL2. Poeple were hoping for huge ship battles, supporting ivnasions of some islands, but it turned out something else. Boring missions, flak density vs fps problems, very imbalanced and not very interesting planesets. People did play it, but in the few first months of exploration, the it was eastern and western front all the same. I would rather have the Korea done quicker.

Frustrated? Naaah. Red boys get frustrated having crap yaks, Focke boys get frustrated cuz of no plane but Messerschmitt boys still got their Friedrich - a more potent T&B fighter too. No worries:-P

baronWastelan 07-07-2011 07:36 PM

The Boeing Company owns North American so good luck getting the F-86 without license problems. Same with the Skyraider since Boeing owns Douglas.
