Dont clouds look better here?

first promo for SOW http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMFFQ...el_video_title

not to mention the rear-view mirror that works!

flyingblind 07-01-2011 08:04 PM

Oooooo YES. And a bouncy rev counter needle.

lensman1945 07-01-2011 08:16 PM

...and the mirror works

Dano 07-01-2011 08:33 PM

It was a leak of wip, of course it looks different. Luthier has already stated that our current clouds are not final, what's the point of this post?

Robert 07-01-2011 08:39 PM

Aren't detailed clouds available in the mission builder? They were excluded in the game itself because of the lack of powerful enough PCs to run them?

Has anyone tried the detailed clouds?

just found interesting that clouds look much better in a 1 year old video. and 2 patches ago the "new clouds" were putted on.

Dano 07-01-2011 08:47 PM

The new clouds did not make the patch, Luthier also stated that they had been turning various stuff down so it'd run on current hardware, they'll re-enable stuff as we move forward I expect.

The clouds are the same, they are just used by the more complex weather engine, that can make them bigger and you can place them at more varied altitudes. Sometimes the results are much better than stock clouds, but the engine is just too buggy right now.
Here is some testing i did.

Dynamic weather is not complete. If you look closely, these are still the same cotton-ball clouds models.

Also some clouds are cut in half.

But the more noticable feature is the sun-lit border 2D clouds in the distance! Those look epic :D Imagine if we had sunrays later on, that would look sweet :) Or rain showers that are local... So some parts of the game is sunlit, whilst others are rainy :)

Robert 07-01-2011 09:47 PM

Thanks JAWS. Interesting to see the possibilities. Hopefully the revamped clouds and dynamic weather can be implemented soon.

re the clouds in the recent patch: I think Luthier commented that the clouds with flat bottoms would make a reappearance.... NOT that new clouds would be implemented yet.

Dano 07-01-2011 09:49 PM

Yeh, thinking about it I think he actually said that the distant flat clouds with the pretty outlines would be implemented.

ATAG_Dutch 07-01-2011 10:09 PM

My word! Or other more anglo-saxon expletives.

When they get this right, plus the new water and whatever else is in the pipeline it's going to blow everything else out of the sky.

And when they do, then I'll buy some new hardware.

Oops! did I just say something positive?

I said the same thing in the above post. The clouds are the same, they are just used different.

skouras 07-02-2011 07:17 AM

You can be positive about the game and still be able to criticize the faults, its called sound judgement where I come from. There are a lot of "when" in your post though.:)
