Anyone knows if the sound bug is related to specific hardware?

Hi!

So, anyone knows if the MP sound bug (where sound goes away completely after a few seconds -> a few minutes in multiplayer) is related to specific hardware?

I have a Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro with the latest beta drivers and beta alchemy and it happens to me at least...

If there is some specific soundcard that it does not happen to I am willing to buy that :)

SG1_Lud 06-27-2011 07:38 PM

Realtek (chipset ALC 882) onboard sound, and I have the bug.

Wandalen 06-27-2011 07:45 PM

I had / have the sound problem. After downloading the latest Realtec audio driver the sound got mutch betther. Only engine sound diapear in out side view in online gaming. I can live with that since i spend the moast of my time in full real servers :) i am using the built in sound from my motherboard... witch is a.... cant remember.. 52 pro or something
But a friend of mine newer had anny sound problems.. i think i will ask what type of card he got.

Exactly!

Thee_oddball 06-27-2011 08:34 PM

if you guys are having trouble switch to DX9 in your config (D3D9) if the sound comes back this could go along to solving the bug :)

S!

Ali Fish 06-27-2011 08:36 PM

possibly the sound mods are not helping either.

BigPickle 06-27-2011 08:37 PM

Tried that, the bug was still there and with Dx9 it runs like crap for me :(

Its a MP bug, using MP in cockpit view make the game sound crash. Never had the problem in SP with or without sound mod.

same:rolleyes:

Affects me on both onboard realtek & creative x-fi extreme music card. No difference noticed.

Haven't played in some weeks as the issue is so annoying.

It is defiantly connected with AI spawning. I have a dedicated server and have made missions.. sounds problems ALWAYS start when a side mission starts.

The only thing that may stop it is to have NO side missions start. I bet pure dogfight servers without AI are not affected.. unfortunately they are also very limited & somewhat boring.

Same here. :(

Yesterday when I played on mp server, at first there was a lot of planes and the sound disapered. Later on when there was only few planes and I had restart the game, I had no sound problem!

funny you should say that. Because i only ever go into the basic servers and never had the bug. and the first time i ventured out to the other servers i get the bugs.

the sound bug is related with the AI radio communication messages. most probably, it overwhelms the sound system with queued/simultaneous sound flows (or maybe some/many radio messages sounds are bugged, and break the sound system at the moment it tries to play them).

Most plausible guess I've heard yet :)

Tvrdi 06-28-2011 07:27 PM

I completely lost sound when playing online (X-Fi Gamer with latest drivers). I think its because this is unfinished sim.

Agreed. If there wasn't a VAC ban looming then a decent experiment would be to kegtys mod out the communication sound files (or make them tiny) and that way it might not choke anymore.

I own COD on two different steam accounts, so might have to try this online anyway. In some ways if Luthier just gave a quick heads up of 'you will not get banned, or if you do it will be reversed' then we could go hog-wild on trying to find a make-shift solution...

Don't see much specs from ppl that complain about the bug though.
1. Drivers versions would be a start.
2. I presume most of you have multi core cpu's , What is the AffinityMask of the ppl with the problem. Did you try different Mask values (ie leaving one core for windows vs taking all the Cores vs taking only 1 core )
3. 64bit vs 32 bit ?
4. Chipset of the audio card ( It might be diff card manufacturer , but the might use the same audio chipset) .

From steam menu's you can get a System spec (think it is in the settings menu).

Paste the output of that( it lists some of the driver versions etc.. )
Personally I dont suffer from the sound problem. Win 7 64 , on a Mac Pro.

I think you are wrong. Why do you think it is the case?

The sound sputters or goes off entirely the moment side missions spawn AI, this is not when radio messages are created. The radio messages are always some time after this.

Nope. But mine is ondoard if that helps at all. Nvidia drivers.

Well you certainly get spikes when messages come through, and ive had more than once my sound completely cop out on such a spike...

because while cresating my BoB Day mission I've had to do a LOT of testing in order to get the 3 Stuka flights bombing the airfield to meet up as close as possible at a certain point in space and time. and AI spawning never generated sound problems, only AI chattering and eventually the airplane switching.

anyway, I have not said that this is the cause (even if I think it is), but I've expressly put a "most probably" in there in order to avoid biased comments.

Thee_oddball 06-28-2011 10:55 PM

im sure you already tried turning of the AI voice under options?

JG52Krupi 06-28-2011 11:16 PM

Was just flying online for a while and didn't experience the bug (in cockpit at least), now if only I can recall which sever i was in :(

Was fun got a few spits and a hurri.

Really need to jump in a spit and learn how to fly it, its still going to take a while to get used to the 109.

Good suggestions overall, just let me make a slight correction: the process affinity mask setting is now obsolete and has been deleted from the the new version of the conf.ini file.

Were you testing on a dedicated server? And what do you mean AI chattering?

(I'm just trying understand as much as possible)

What i have observed has been pretty clear cut, but NOT consistent. By watching the dedicated server console the sound issues always start with the introduction of a side mission, this coincides with AI spawning, the sound does not always crap out with a side mission and never seems to affect everyone on the server at the same time, sometimes a side mission affects no one, other times just one or two people. But the sounds issues always start with a side mission starting. At least that is what we have observed while flying as a group, all on TeamSpeak and watching the dedicated server console.

What the actual cause is only Luthier and co would know, and they probably wouldn't bother telling us if they did.

The only solution i see is to have no side missions. This is what should be tested, but to be honest I've run out of patience with the game and have shelved it for the time being.
