The Hurricane could do it though, with such a thick wing in comparison to other fighters such as the Spitfire/Mustang, so it made for a vert sturdy gun platform. You name it the Hurricane could do it. It may not of been the best fighter aircraft by the end of the war, but it was without a doubt the most versatile aircraft of the war having been used in every role without much ugrading etc. A true work horse. On topic.... did you see the manaquin get destroyed in that clip? Nasty!! And the recoil it had when in fully automatic mode. Ouch!! |

yes i see the manaquin...the recoil...and the noise too!!!terrible!!! the free french air force used hurricane in the desert war in ww2 too. |
Have you ever heard of the French pilot Pierre Le Gloan?
I hadnt until recently, and i must admit he's something of a strange one. He fought for the Allies, then the Vichy French, then the Allies again. By the time of his death he had accounted for a few kills, Amongst them.. Germans while flying for the French RAF planes while flying against us for the vichy French Italian planes whileflying for the free french. The guy got about a bit!! |
If we're talking big guns and aircraft my vote for WoS is already cast for one of these please.......

yes many french pilots were very divided after the deafeat between join the GENERAL CHARLES DE GAULLE in the free french forces and stay in the vichy air force to hope continue the war in north africa...but quickly it became clear that the vichy governement opted for a total collaboration with the nazis...some pilots join MISTER DE GAULLE and others want but an event did that it was the war between the allied forces +the DE GAULLE forces and the vichy forces : the july 4th 1940 the royal navy attack the french vichy fleet in MERS EL KEBIR (ALGERIA)harbor because the englishs were afraid that the germans capture and used this fleet to used against great britain. after this event, angry, many french pilots decided to continue the war in the vichy air force and there was a very big tensions and even fights(but i'm not sure) between free french forces and vichy force(only on the ground,no air combats).after the TORCH operation of the allied forces ,all the north africa vichy forces join the allied but there was a very bad atmosphere betwwen the "DE GAULLE GUYS" of the first hour and the news who join after TORCH, the first said that the seconds are a cowards and join the allied in their own interests ...i don't know the point of view of PIERRE LE GLOAN,the only thing i can say is that was a dark page of our history, but it is good to be honest, there were a french cowards, there were a french heroes, and the others who "didn't know...what to do". even actually the question is sore...happy for us A HERO as MONSIEUR JEAN MOULIN(who prefer died under the torture instead of said the names of menbers of the resistance to the ennemy)AND A LOT OF OTHERS save the honor of FRANCE and win the respect from the allied... |
Thats a pretty big gun!! You have mybeloved Hurricanes on Anti Tank duty, then you come along with the Anti Ship weaponry!! haha.
