Try facetracknoir, some are getting good results using that:

3%? you are wrong... make a log of cpu usage and you'll see that is much more than 3%

in the interface of facetracknoir there is a window where is indicated the real time perfomarce of the software and the webcam: cpu usage 3% at 29/30Hz
My webcam is a logitech 5000 pro |

btw the question here was for eyecam + freetrack, we are all offtopic |
I have a PS3 eye and can run it with FaceTrackNoIR.
The eye uses more CPU than standard webcams. I can use a cheap standard webcam (not as good quality) and the CPU as utu says, is much lower. Looking at the FTN window it drifts between 5-11% with the PS3Eye. If FTN loses your face and needs to reacquire, all cores will spike momentarily. On a multi-core processor I suggest using affinity and setting it to a single core. The eye is much better in low light and has higher FPS. I guess it has more demanding hardware and software. Glo Sorry, still slightly OT. |
anyone using freetrack with ps3 eye with driver that work, I don't mind modifying camera, I'm using dual core processor and need to keep cpu usage down but will keep FTN in mind, thanks

Freetrack needs a couple of files to fix it to work with the PS3 Eye as well as the CLEye drivers - I assume that's what's been posted in the mediafire link above - have a quick look in the Freetrack forums and you'll find the full instructions.
Freetrack is nowhere near stable on my machine, but it'll only usually crash after playing the game has ended, and in all honesty it does a much more accurate job compared to facetracknoir - don't get me wrong, ftnoir has a lot of potential and requires very little setup, but a well set up freetrack system is much more accurate at the moment - and no doubt trackIR would be more accurate, and in turn much more expensive. |
hey guys is there any of this prgrams i can use with a cheap webcam and nothing else?
|
Facetracknoir is currently the only one that will do it without the need for any hardware hacking whatsoever.
I don't know of any other face/IR tracking projects other than facetracknoir, freetrack and trackIR - it'd be interesting to see what someone could do with the kinect SDK, but it's a relatively expensive option, comparable to the trackIR product really. |

Yeah I tried out facetracknoir and the results were not very good at all. There was giant amounts of lag between the time I would move my head and it would get any reaction on the screen. Maybe it was something to do with the fact that I removed the IR filter from my camera and that is giving it a bad picture or something. But for now I still use freetrack.
The ultimate solution will be whenever anybody makes something that uses a Kinect I guess |

I have a PS3 eye with FT, using Alexp's drivers and the FT file fixes (will check to see if they are they same ones as linked above). It works flawlessly on XP32 with Il1946 but I have had a lot of problems with the same set up in CoD on Win 7 64bit.
It's not the PS3 eye because I tried my MS VX1000 webcam and still got FT hanging when sometimes starting or exiting a mission. No one else seemed to report any instability and FT freezing so I guess its something with my install. Been away and Just got back, hopefully sometime this week I can try and find out why this is happening. If anyone did have problems and found a fix let me know or that FT with CoD is stable on their P.C. |
I just wanted to drop another positive FtN post in this thread.
It actually works best with a PS3 webcam so give it a go. I've been using it for ages now and I'm very happy with the latest build. It's not quite as precise as TrackIR for 6dof but it is a very viable alternative. |
I'm not 100% on this but i did see a fourm awhile ago that newer models of .. i think it was eye doesn't work as good as the older models i have free track and a 3 point Osram IR LEDS and a cam (logitech) only giving me 15Fps I was going to get a eye but i'm going to read up more on what i can work with .. i just heard about noir soon well see

I got the ps3 eye with facetrack noir, uses about 7% cpu for me, not sure about ram, it does occasionly glitch and you have to wait for it to auto restart itself, I'm far to lazy to do the free track, though I might get a trackir at some stage.Between clod and fsx I need all the cpu I can get.
heres what you can expect with facetracknoir, ps3eye and an i7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEszkIhrzfE |

Don't waste your money on trackir, just buy the trackclip pro. I've bought the PS3 to use FTNOIR, but i'm using freetrack with the trackclip and it is the same thing as using trackir 4 (yes, i tested the 2 myself), i don't think it can get any better than ps3 eye + track clip pro (or if you abandon lazyness a custom homemade trackclip) |

Did you modify the Eye? I'm looking for someone who is using the Eye with Freetrack without removing the IR filter. |
To test without removing the IR lens, just tape a section of floppy disk over the lens and use a typical TV/video remote control to generate the IR source. Reduce the exposure and see if you can get a dot without stray interference. It will pulse but thats what it should do from a remote control.
A lot of peeps are using the non-moddable PS3 eye's perfectly OK with IR LED's. |

Also I'm hoping at some point maybe more opensource software similar to the PS Move will come to the PC, and since Move is based on regular LEDs, I would rather leave the Eye as is, with the IR filter intact. Thanks again for all the help, I'm linking over the other thread, since jayrc started two, and this one's more active: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=23390 |
