G'day Sita

There's a guy working on a C-47 cockpit for FSX that had exactly the same question, here's a link to his dev' page, maybe there's other stuff that might help out there as well:

Pursuivant 02-01-2016 07:24 PM

English text for first placard is correct.

I agree that "Bypasses" makes the most sense for the hidden word.

Is this for the C-47/Li-2/L2D or for a different plane?

I'm guessing that it's some sort of emergency fuel shutoff.

Sita 05-31-2016 03:22 PM

it's for different plane .... C47 Family i think i finish ...

Strange mix of English language and German gauges and placards. Who knows what's authentic to the 1930s/40s?

None of the gauges looks to be authentic. In fact, the entire instrument panel might be a replacement.

My guess is that the black and silver placards riveted to the throttle quadrant, and what I take to be the engine flaps or prop controls and the magnetos, are authentic, but that section of the photo is out of focus.

Links = Left
Alle = All
Rechts = Right

Auf = Open
Zu = Closed

Schmierstoff Kühler = oil (literally "lubricant") cooler/radiator.

Druck??merven. . . = Pressure???

Pursuivant 06-01-2016 05:04 PM

Your request didn't translate very well to English.

Were you looking for a clearer picture of the valve, or a picture with a different angle?

For the latter, this picture is the best I've found so far:

Gorgeous!

We might finally get to fly the plane flown by some of the bravest, yet least recognized, pilots of WW2.

Spudkopf 06-05-2016 03:04 AM

Somewhere I have a photo of the original German spec instrument panel removed from one the Swiss JuAir Ju-52s it was then restored and is now on display in foyer of the Air force museum at Dübendorf. I'll see if I can dig it up.

I should also have some shots that I took from the flight deck when I was fortunate enough to receive a flight for my birthday some years back.

Sita 06-05-2016 09:00 AM

any picts are appreciated)

Nein, im der Schweiz

Yes I was very lucky, it was a present from the in-laws.

As for shots, sadly the in-flight shots were taken back in my pre-digital days, but I'll have look through the albums and see if any are worthy of scanning, however I'm sure I have later shots of the instrument panel, taken at the museum post-digital and saved to a disc somewhere here, I did have a quick look for them on Sunday but thus far no luck.

Otherwise you'll have to wait until mid-September, as I will be back in Switzerland, and as one of my wife's best friends lives in Dübendorf, I usually get dropped off at the museum while she is busy having some girly-catch-up time.

Pursuivant 06-06-2016 02:50 PM

A disadvantage of taking instrument panel pictures of a working aircraft is that many of the WW2-era instruments have been replaced by modern ones. Certainly, the radio and navigation aids are going to be 21st century, rather than 1940s vintage.

I discovered this the hard way when I tried to get pictures of the C-47 cockpit.

What's likely to remain authentic are the other parts of the cockpit - rudder pedals, throttle quadrants, cable runs, seats, etc.

Pursuivant 06-06-2016 02:59 PM

FWIW, I checked out the Duebendorf Flight Museum web site, since they have a flyable Ju-52. One little gem I found is a .wav file of Ju-52 engine sounds.

http://www.airforcecenter.ch/fileadm...loads/ju52.wav

Assuming the engines are still BMW 132 radial engines, this would be a handy sound file for the Ju-52, as well as the Ar-196, FW-200, and Hs-123.

All three Ju52s of the JuAir fleet where original German Junkers builds and not licence built aircraft, and are to my Knowledge the only ones still running with beemers, at least this was true last time I saw them doing an engine run-up in 2006.

The instrument panel that was on display outside the JuAir booking office was removed from one active aircraft and restored to it's original delivery configuration, with all the original instruments, sadly still not been able to track down the images I took of it yet but still looking.

The only cockpit shot I've tracked down thus far is a fairly poor quality shot that was taken inside the Munchen museums Ju52, which I beleive is a post war french built example.

Nice picture, if a bit dark. IIRC, the Ju-52 was one of the aircraft that the Nazis trusted the French to build "under license" in Occupied France. IIRC, the immediate post-war French Amiot AAC.1 "Toucan" version of the Ju-52 was likely a perfect copy of the Junkers version, possibly with French language instruments and placards. In any case, the instrument panel was probably compatible with Junkers built Ju-52, and there's no reason why any other functional part of the cockpit should be different.

Sita, unless you see any obvious differences in the layout of the AAC.1 and the Ju-52 instrument panel, treat them as the same plane.

Anyone know how to correct translate it into English?

53 Schalthebel Feuerlöschanlage (links und rechts) ein -aus
54 Abstimmungs Hebel für die Drehzahl (gross-klein-Sturzflug)
55 Tankschalthebel (Brandhan) (auf -zu)

from DE ?

Corvus Corax 11-15-2016 04:33 PM

53 Schalthebel Feuerlöschanlage (links und rechts) ein -aus:
shift lever fire-extinguisher (left and right) on - off

54 Abstimmungs Hebel für die Drehzahl (gross-klein-Sturzflug):
control lever R.p.m. coordination (high - low - dive)

55 Tankschalthebel (Brandhan) (auf -zu):
engine fuel shut off valve (open - close)

hope these are the correct terms

sniperton 11-15-2016 05:03 PM

More simply:

53 Fire Extinguisher (left / right engine): on - off
54 RPM Switch: high - low - dive
55 Fuel Switch (in case of fire): open - closed

edit: 53 and 55 are mostly used together in case of engine fire: first you cut off the fuel (55) and wait until the engine stops, then you use 53 to extinguish the engine fire

Sita 11-15-2016 05:06 PM

Thanks) soon will be more question)
