Clod sounds a bit weird, but your point is valid. Even though I have called it CoD up until today I will join your cause - for it is fair...

My suggestion:

cLiffs Of doVEr = LOVE

What's yours? :D

Buchon 05-08-2011 05:13 PM

IL2COD

More complete naming avoid the COD confusion.

seiseki 05-08-2011 05:29 PM

Well I've heard some theories that the name Cliffs of Dover and Shortening CoD wasn't by accident, Ubisoft wants IL2CoD to appear when the xbox kiddies make a google search for CoD.

That's just dumb in my book, because Call of Duty will always be bigger..
And people who play Simulators are (for the most part) a completely different target audience..

Just to ruin their plan I've also started to call it CloD..

RedToo 05-08-2011 05:43 PM

CloDo

RedToo.

frenchfly 05-08-2011 05:43 PM

CLOVER:grin:

Buchon 05-08-2011 05:45 PM

I dont think that the COD kiddies can play this sim.

There no Press Start Button :-P

Jokes a side I hope that this Sim recover the Storm of War name in future expansions, just a wish.

I don't think is any confusion. One was game of the year and ran flawlesly while the other is......:(

Conte Zero 05-08-2011 05:55 PM

Storm of War!!!!

that name kicked ass.

A bugged WWII combat flight sim with great content and with one flexible and promising engine?

Get a life, please... By the way, I'm waiting Battlefield 3. All the Call OF Duty franchise is crap. Boring MP, weak gameplay.

Bye!

It should have been called Flames over Dover :)

JumpingHubert 05-08-2011 11:45 PM

Il22 !?

jimbop 05-09-2011 12:18 AM

CoD for me. If someone doesn't get which game is being referred to from the context of this forum (i.e. the IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover forum) then there's something wrong with their comprehension.

Anyway, CLoD just sounds awful!

GOZR 05-09-2011 03:14 AM

Lol.. ;)

DarthElvis 05-09-2011 03:44 AM

How about S.O.L.

Stutter Over London.

And one had a budget that matches Titanic and was developed by a team of 300 with maximum attention from the publisher, while the other was done by a team of 20-30 on damn tight budget and poor support from the publisher...

I love the Combat Mission series too, and they are a team of 3-4, so naturally the 3D engine suck, but the game doesn't after 15 patches (talking CM:SF). Damn it sucked bad on the release date but most of the community where grown ups that supported the team anyway. Now they are soon releasing Combat Mission : Battle for Normandy and the engine that was initially as buggy as CloD is now really doing what it should. Naturally the engine is nowhere looking like the multi million budget 3D engines, but their community understand why and focus on the gameplay.

That is the trip is hope for regarding CloD, the team survives and release 2-3 addons to the initial title to stay alive (just like they did with CM:SF). Then they do a new standalone title with the engine that is mature by then, getting good reviews etc and they finally earn some money!

To make that happen takes a community that realize that comparisons to the block buster titles with almost unlimited budgets is just silly!

Looking at these forums seems that we've got a very limited number of that community material here.

Well, can't blame people.. after reading this forum for a while after a few weeks break it made me want to bail out too. Three simultanious 'WoP vs CloD hate-whine-cry' threads almost did it for me. But I decided not to give up. I'm just hoping the critical bugs can be fixed quick so we can enjoy some additional content.

Not just down to the community though - proper communication from the devs to the community is important to foster such a response as you describe. I don't think that has happened here, especially pre-launch, and that tends to leave a bad, unforgiving taste in the mouth. Unwise to use up all your favours at once under these circumstances!

doraemil 05-09-2011 08:31 AM

+(x+1)(x+1) storm of war was good, shoulda kept it

CLOD just reminds me of cleaning the shoes but horses are cool. man I miss those days

Upthair 05-09-2011 08:56 AM

... But 'CloD' just sounds ugly, so to speak.

Setting aside tastes in gaming (I enjoy both genres):
COD = latest gen graphics game that you can play today
CloD = last gen graphics game that you might be able to play in 2013 ;)

Zappatime 05-09-2011 05:05 PM

My PC = battered COD and chips

swiss 05-09-2011 05:05 PM

Just call it CliD.

Just make sure you pronounce it with a soft(!) "D". :)

drewpee 05-11-2011 12:32 PM

Cliffs Of Obsession

AndyHill 05-11-2011 12:34 PM

It's iCoD (not my invention).

JG14_Jagr 05-11-2011 12:36 PM

I think it's safe to assume that most mentions of COD on a dedicated Cliffs of Dover forum will more than likely be about Cliffs of Dover. :)
