Beta Patch Feedback
Just thought a simple poll would be helpful for the developers.
Personally I have had a rather large performance drop with this one :(. |
I'm at work for 24 hours! Arghh! Reading your post first thing I'd say is check your settings to insure you are comparing apples to apples

for me this patch is horrible.i dont know why but this new texture loading system leads to massive stutters.although you cant call it stutters anymore, its more a slideshow with a new image every four seconds.especially when planes are flying by close, the game just freeezes.i didnt had that before the patch!first i thought i only have these massive stutters only over london again, but i have it over land everywhere and particular in dogfights(missions i made in FMB and played well before with 20-30fps average and no stutters at all).im dissapointed this time.sorry for beeing so negative.

Been reading about it in the official sticker thread + here I think I won't risk installing it lol xD. |
less fps but smoother....
|
Still getting stuttering while flying over even the smallest barn or cottage in the countryside. Makes no difference whether the graphics settings are on High all round or Low all round, there's still something seriously wrong with the way buildings are being rendered/processed...whatever.
If it wasn't for this i'd rate the performance as very good. |
Tried sightseeing over London with new patch.
Everything set to maximum (yes u heard me), No clouds, 2x aa. Got around 20 fps avg. |
To early to say/vote however initial impression is that the frame rate may have dropped a bit it looks "nicer" and the stuttering isnt so bad also the input control delay seems better.
Also some advances made on the interfaces in MP its a bit better now. Look at my specs win7 home premium 64bit X64-based PC intel Core 2 Quad cpu Q8300 @ 2.50GHz(4CPU) 4 Gig RAM DX 11 NVIDIA Geforce GTS 250 (1 Gig RAM) Saitek AV8R joystick TrackIRv5 Now before some Troll accuses me of having a "third world" system, let me point out its my choice not to have a cutting edge machine, I find it hard to justify spending two grand every eighteen months on what is essentially a gaming machine. I have what I have and I just have to play the hand im dealt. I find the game playable, Even with the eyecandy turned down its pretty enough, and look at the maps theyre huge.and detailed. Looking at some peoples specs and the complaints they make about performance I have to wonder at what sort of resolutions/detail/frame rates do they expect this game to run at ? Your eye sees at about 27fps I believe, If you run at a super high resolution things will appear to stutter as your eye tries to pick out detail. My advice would be to set your setting to get about 30-40fps turn your resolution down a bit then turn the detail up as much as your comfortable with, most combats dont take place at low level over London so gemerally you should get a reasonable game experience. It seems to me that ppl with NVidia cards are having less issues,Its only a guess judging by posts on this forum. Getting back to the patch now I think the most important game fix needed is the Mix/Altitude problem. If and when this is fixed I feel the game will be up to where we could have expected it to be on initial release. |
I too had lost fps, until I switched to Ambisonc sound and gained an extra 25fps, seems there is something new going on with the other sound engines causing huge slowdowns
|
More stuttering when approaching bomber formation, but less when flying over citys.

I am afraid this is nonsense, and an urban myth, brought about by the decision to use 25fps for TV broadcasts in its early days, notwithstanding ntsc' introduction in the US in 41. It appears to work due to the residual image inherent in very early phosphor displays, blending one frame into the next, this ghost image helping to fool the brain (not the eye), into believing it is watching smooth play back. Later, In order to maintain continuity and compatibility with earlier recordings, manufacturers, and filmmakers maintained the same frame rate until the introduction of HD, deliberately introducing image ghosting once technology had advanced to a point they could manufacture displays faster than 25 fps without it. The human eye can detect variations of a few frames as high as 200 fps, however, only the most expensive displays can display at that frame rate with no image ghosting or residual image, but newer displays are now approaching that level of performance. Trying to watch a 25 fps recording on such a display is quite the eye opener, if you will excuse the pun, and slower frame rates around 30 - 50 in computer games look like a strobe is being used to project the image, the flicker between frames is so pronounced. |
CRT's @ 60Hz caused headaches/ eye strain... 100 Hz no headaches/ eye strain
LCD's @ fps anything other than the screen native Hz causes judder (59.4Hz LCD's are basically television screens, not monitors) I voted Increase in Performance, meaning Increase in Playability |
I ran many iterations of the new "Black Death" track. I found stuttering and pausing was substantially improved.
Specific times in the the "Black Death Track" where 1.00.14101 version had performance issues - i.e. game paused, stuttered or slowed at these points: 00:58 - 1:12 View from Hurricane's wing watching 110 overfly and bomb drops 01:15 - Explosion of first Hurri on takeoff 01:22 - 01:29 Large series of explosions across runway and hurricanes taking off 01:31 - 01:35 Bf-109E3's pulling away from RAF airbase - explosions visible on runway 02:14 - 02:15 110 attack on Hurricane sitting on runway 02:28 Hurricane's wing cut off by collision 02:41-02:43 Large explosion zoom in of Hurricane 03:03-03:11 AA gunner shots (Gunner is offset from seat btw - seat is stuck in his neck[*bug]) 03:17 109 zoomed in closing RAF airbase All of these events and times performed signficantly better in this version. These were all problem points before. Game is much smoother. In some situations I found there to be a 2-3 fps drop, however the animation was much smoother. It does no good to have 100 fps for 3 secs - then 0 for 1 - then 100 for the next 3. At 4XAA Application Controlled with Morphological filtering OFF: Resolution 1920 X 1200, Full Screen Model Detail, Visual Effects, Damage Decals and Land Shading to High Texture Quality to Original Buildings Detail, Land Detail, Forest and Building Amount = Low No Grass Shadows and Roads enabled 1.00.14101 Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 5766, 217886, 0, 108, 26.463 1.00.14214 Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 8465, 214107, 0, 88, 39.536 LGA 775 Intel Q9650 @ 4.00 MHz - 4GB DDR2 ATI HD5870 Win 7/64 S! Didn't vote.
Couldn't ascertain any performance gain, but did notice terrible graphics anomalies, such as huge stripes of green land texture in the sea, and large stripes of dark green on the landscape. Think the staff should slow down, take their time and work to their own agenda, not the forum's. |
I got a 14% increase in my funstration :D

Significantly more stuttering with the new beta patch along with an increase in the number and frequency of graphical anomalies (most seem to do with asset loading) and an increase in usability problems (e.g. problems dropping in and out of 3D mode)

So how do you define performance? Do we judge it by FPS or stutters or just how the game feels overall? I had FPS drop, stutters are still there buildings still look like 2D roofs painted on ground but addition of FFB made the game much more enjoyable for me.btw I still can't get custom ammo loadouts to work in QMB
|
The game still does not clock up certain ATI cards to full 3D clock speeds. Full-screen mode has changed nothing.
|
Have the same feeling that fps droped a little bit and i have more stutters. Maybe i have somewhere a bad setting!

Exceptional patch for me - 8x AA, settings high, grass roads trees on, very smooth.

I installed it and the game wont load had to uninstall and start again It could be just me and the way i installed the patch:confused:

700 feet over london buildings very high = 35fps av. sorry in a hurry :( |
How about starting with:
If your going to upload a beta patch for others to test then don’t use some useless tin pot heap of crap like megaupload to host the file instead use e.g. rapidshare which at least provides a button for you to download from as a “free” user after the countdown time, plus e.g. the rapidshare site is seldom down and they don’t tend to screw there page html up. |
Less FPS and the Stutter a back a little and freezes are back in a big way. Fullscreen doesnt work as I keep shooting back to desktop in between all loading screens.
|
I have tested the beta patch some more.
Land: FPS basically the same. Water: Reduced by ~5FPS However when I fly into a bomber formation my FPS drops from ~30 to ~17, this is a problem that the first patch removed :( |
Works Ok for me.
Can now set AA and V Sync. (although AA is not all that good although it appears to work.) The V Sync limits the FR's, and obviously working AA does also so frames are lower but its prettier and does not tear. Goes into full 3d mode (and TIR only starts working ) in between the menu's, the menu's are not in this full 3d which is presumably how it should be ? Seeing some lovely cloud shadows on the sea with this beta. Also seeing some strange texture corruptions on the sea also in a couple of places around Calais primarily. ( this has been posted about elsewhere.) Much good , some not quite there yet. (not going to vote, 'performance' at this stage is pretty hard to quantify. AA and V sync are vital additions. As is FFB for some) i5 2500k ATI HD6850 Win7 |

I know its obvious but if any of you are using skype try to turn off pop ups this was killing fps since this beta patch. I expect it was something to do with the new full screen mode.

I can no longer get into multiplayer games.
It's always been touch and go when loading the mission/ map/ briefing screen whether or not it will actually load, and now 100% of the time I get a CTD before the map even shows up. :( Performance is perfect now though, all settings on medium/ high and looking great with no stutters :) E6700 2.66Ghz 8800GTX 2GB RAM |
CTD on joining multiplayer servers.
|
Major problems with graphics resulting in Nvidia driver resetting. Artifacts and stretched anomalies all over the place. Either the game crashes or the nvidia driver resets. No problems prior to the patch.
Using latest Forceware 270.61. Nvidia control panel set to default and i deleted the 1C folder in documents. Nothing seems to help. Well aware that it's beta. I just hope it's sorted out in the final patch :) |
Slight drop in FPS for me, with the payoff of having slightly less stutters.
Biggest problem with the patch is I get a Black Screen when starting up and need to Alt-tab out of the game and hit the launcher icon in the task bar to get back in properly. I also get the game jumping back to Desktop for a few seconds, just before a mission starts and every time I hit Esc to use a menu in-flight. :( Oh, and the bug that prevents full-screen at less than desktop resolution is back. ;) |

Great multiplayer for me, very smooth over land or sea also in offline I can now fly over London with about an extra 5 - 10 fps than pre beta patch, very good patch for me, i have been able to move some settings to medium and turn grass on with little to no frame loss, forests still low and shadows and roads off.

Just a thought, before I tested I went into the conf.ini and set ff=0 as I see it is now implemented but I dont use it, not sure if it made a difference but it does in some games, also mirrors after the beta patch when turned off = +10 fps for me.
|
its getting beter every week now ! this is really nice. ive been able to go higher in settings. and still maintain smoothness. granted the frame rates are low but thats to be expected on a gt280 card.
good work guys ! |
My performance is worse now, though I like new quick missions. Core2Duo 3ghz 9800gt 8gb DDR2

Crash
I shalle try once again but the game crashess after 10 minutes in the air with a Spitfire along the coast from Portsmouth to Eastbourne, I have never reached Eastbourne? Before the patch it did not do this.
|
The bizarre fullscreen thing is driving me crazy. Would someone explain why we need it? I used to like being able to access other windows easily and now it crashes more often than not.

Because its needed for vsync and anti-aliasing to work properly. Even then its all a bit buggy at the moment.
|
Unable to vote as game has problem after applying this Beta Patch:-
Half a screen of game window and the rest desktop, while the GUI/Briefings etc are fullscreen. |
I noted a slightly decrease of fps (2-5) but a bit less stutters. I feel that playing with detail setts influences mostly fps but not the stutters. I can fly the france free flight at very low alt (100m) with settings very high at about 30 fps. Climbing to 500m raises fps to over 40 fps. Flying over bigger towns still drops fps to 20 and below, espacially if factory areas are in sight. Sometimes fps drop to full stop for a sec or two. If fps are dropping, gpu utilisation drops too, but cpu utilisation raises. (values by ATT overlay)

Posted this in the technical forum, but this beta patch doesn't even allow me to start the game.
http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=21994 I get the yellow A/C in a reticle icon, then nothing. I tried unchecking the windows Aero disable under compatibility, and still nothing. I had to revert back to pre-patch with Steam's integrity verification. |

i had the same prob when i dowloaded the direct link files from megaupload and placed the dirs in my game folder. Tried the torrent and they worked for me. Maybe something wrong with the downloaded zipfile, imo. mugen |

I don’t see why I should change from IE that works on 99.9% of websites to some other browser which inevitably will require you to still have IE for the much bigger quantity of sites they wont work on properly. ;) |

Slight increase though it is a pain to have to adjust desktop size to prevent it running in a window at under native monitor resolution (I usually run my desktop at 2500*1600 and the game at 1680*1050 - so now I have to drop the desktop down, or it runs in a window and crashes when I esc out etc). ClOD Hopping (the 109 mixture bounce "feature") seems even worse in some scenarios - ie I now get it with temp effects off as well. Attached screenshot of black death test results - CPU was running at 4Ghz for this test.

This always happened in full screen, it just happened so quickly previously it went largely unnoticed. It happens because they create an entirely new window for the menus each time you switch back and forth, rather than store the old screen in a frame buffer when switching between the rendered 3d game and game menus. Ordinarily as a programmer you create one window and store data for each screen that doesn’t have focus, so you can switch seamlessly back and forth between different screens when called. Why they chose their approach is a little bizarre, and tends to suggests that the ui programmer is new, or out of his depth. Conceivably ,it could be due to their using .net for the games framework(they used java for earlier games), but it is unlikely, as I do not believe they are using so much graphics memory they cannot store the menu screens when they do not have focus. /geek mode off |
For those for whom the game doesnt start: use 7-zip to extract folders, thatll help
For those having not whole screen covered in flight: set your desktop resolution to same as in game Issue with patch: Though v-sync is supported now i still have screen tearing and waves running across the screen (no matter what setting, v sync forced or applied by application) and the landscape still doesnt move smooth across the screen when flying by or even rolling and turning. Its seems the landscapegeometricschangees for different viewpoint is only done every 20 fps or so. |

Cool, I'll try that. |
I have also gotten a significant loss in performance, along with artifacts and a general feeling of disappointment. Seriously though, how do you roll back to the official version? We'll get there soon.

HOWEVER, as I keep telling people who suffered a large fps drop with this patch, even here in this very thread. Go to audio options and select Ambisonc, do not ask questions just do it, save, and exit the game, it won't save and change the audio rendering until you do this (another bug). Then crank up the game again and enjoy better fps; the sound was borked using the other audio engine in anything but stereo. |
Well my game runs very good now..
grass OFF forest OFF building detail MEDIUM and building amount LOW but everything else on MAX Sound is a bit intermittent when in extermal view firing guns..if i exit to change options etc when return to game have no control or key input (sometimes) dont have any GFX issues now..overall great improvement |

In the case of this patch on my machine, for example - my fps was down in some runs by a few frames - BUT my pausing and stuttering were almost non-existent. So in my case - I reported improved performance. It does you no good to have 100 fps for 20 frames and 1 fps for 10. S! Gunny |

I saw the same thing last night - but only on the Syndicate server. Is that where you were too? S! Gunny |
Most significant improvements for me (Dual Core - Win 7/64 -4Gb- GTS250)
1. Vsync enabled - No screen tearing. 2. Input response (virtually no lag and ac control sensitivy vastly better) Brief closures to desktop when exiting missions/menus can be a bit disconcerting - many thanks for the rapid rate of improvements. A very happy bunny here! |

The fact that desktop can be seen at anytime when the game has launched means that fullscreen is definitly not working which means Vsync and AA are not working properly too.
When fullscreen works properly you will have to Alt-Tab to see your desktop. When they fix it we will see real the real difference made by AA which I'm sure they will. |
