Quick Friday Update - Next Patch Info

[Edit] The patch is here. Sorry, no coherent patch notes today. As usual, apply to the latest steam version.

The most important component of this beta patch is the changes to multiplayer. We're hoping you'll find the new code more exciting, and statistics more fulfilling. This is, of course, just one footstep in our continuous journey towards a well-rounded multiplayer experience.

Stuff in this patch:

1. Major changes to online code, statistics, stability, etc.

2. More performance increases, including streamlined block loading that lets you switch between planes over England and France instantaneously (then watch the landscape underneath load in).

3. Force feedback.

4. True full screen, VSync.

5. Various changes in aircraft animations, FM, etc - a huge list.

6. Lots of changes to ground object AI and DM - another huge list.

7. New IL-2 style QMB missions.

We've also been working on SLI and Crossfire support. Crossfire is probably a couple of weeks out, while SLI is most likely going to wait for the next driver release from NVidia. By the way, SLI/Crossfire hardware should no longer cause slow-downs as of the last patch, so this shouldn't be as huge a let-down as it could have been.

Known issues:
* Temporary Army icons, not yet appearing everywhere
* No localization for new content other than EN and RU
* New briefings for campaign do not re-display the mission texts

I douse your hair if you make 3-4 Hours, gee that would be great. Good Luck. Any news of an update regarding Radio Comms?

furbs 04-22-2011 02:31 PM

great stuff Luthier, keep em coming and good luck with rolling out this patch today.

Full screen and vsync...does that mean FSAA should work as it should?

The new QMB is very good news indeed, hoping that loadouts and skin saving are fixed with this.

cheers.

I would rather wait until Monday or Tuesday rather than have something rushed just to keep the impatient happy. ;)

Phazon 04-22-2011 03:00 PM

I'm surprised at the pace these patches are happening. I suppose its neccessary to give the game a good US launch.

Thankyou for the update Luthier, its much appreciated.

lothar29 04-22-2011 03:02 PM

Thanks Luthier, I am happy to hear that they are still working in the entire development.

Great news and thank you. So many patches. Cant wait to read the long list with fixed bugs.

This sim reminds me of a flight sim put out by M$. The sim was disappointing to some and not to others. It recived not so good reviews but it is now a very good sim.

Thank you for the updates. I very much enjoy this sim.

After the last download from stream what is the revision number at the right bottom of the screen? I still see 1.00.14072.

Thanks,

True full screen. Great news.

Can you tell us the reason behind the pseudo full screen, was this part of a feature not fully implemented or a "feature"?

Actually it's a good thing... We play with the beta patch they get the feedback needed over the weekend and they make enhancements as needed.

Let's face it we are Beta testers.

I sure hope so, alot is lynchpinned on this fix. Its why vsync will now work, and although he didn't specifically mention it AA should now work too. If not the in-game AA (I'm not sure what method they use), forcing it with the drivers should work.

I also hope it fixes ATI cards not scaling up their 3D clock speeds for Cliffs of Dover once and for all. I'm getting tired of having to put an overclock on my card to force the right clockspeeds for the game.

madrebel 04-22-2011 05:22 PM

I found out what the cause was. I for some reason thought CoD was to be put in the Program files in W-7 64 bit instead of the Programs files x86.

More recent ATI cards scale clock speeds with the type of application being run, to reduce energy consumption, noise, heat, that sort of thing. However, if an application is not coded in a way the card recognises, it will operate at desktop clocks, which are seriously reduced impairing performance quite considerably. As COD did not have a proper full screen mode, these ati cards were running at desktop clock speeds, and not the speeds intended for applications such as gaming. A workaround is to force an over clock through the drivers or other software; doing so forces the clocks to operate continuously at the overlcocked speed.

S!

Now that came out of nowhere :) Was tinkering with IL-2 to see if any setting would cause FPS boost or degradation. So far none except one, HDR. Set that to 0 and Launcher.exe crashes. Possible to have HDR thing as option? It eats FPS as well.

Luthier, do these error messages tell you anything if posted? Got a few of them from the logs...

Thanks for keeping us updated. JMHO, but I would like to see more optimization of the graphics over land, and in particular, the buildings.
I did some benchmark tests and whenever it refocuses on buildings, the fps drops in the toilet.
Also, even when my fps is high (e.g. much >30) I still see stutters and pauses.
I was using the tiger moth land flight track that came with last patch.
Anyway, something else is going on.
It's not ram either because I did these tests with everything as low as possible and monitored my ram use.
Maybe the sound files or something.
But, I was running sound as low as possible.
It was weird because my fps was actually higher with minimal sound turned on( sounduse=1) verses sound off (sounduse=0), which doesn't make any sense to me.
You would think with sound off avg fps would be higher, but it was lower by noticeable difference.
I should mention, I don't have sound card so everything off cpu/gpu in my test. I would really look at the sound in general though.
It drops out a lot in some of the bench tracks. Also, the radio chatter and that red text, just cut that out of the game. No one cares about it and all it does is lower performance and is annoying.
Also, take a week off for Easter.
Don't burn yourselves out.
We need you to live long time.:)

smink1701 04-22-2011 06:56 PM

Luthier, thanks for all the hard work and communication.
