G940, can any confirm?

I know there is no FF in game, i can live with that, but i have readed that if you play with G940 there is allways 100% centerin spring on in the game, if you put it from Windows joystick profiler to 50% force, it is 100% in game really, if it's true you cannot fly this baby with G940.

I'm really worried now, i hope there is somekind solution for less centering spring.

100 centering spring is so tight i cannot fly with it.

JG301_HaJa 03-30-2011 08:08 AM

If you havn't ordered it yet and can wait a couple of days I can check for you :D
As stated I have a G940 and my game should arrive today or tomorrow if all goes
well and then I'll try to tweak the profiles a bit to see if it can be done as a stop gap.

Kankkis 03-30-2011 08:12 AM

If i remember correct there is centering spring assigment in windows and option for non forcefeedback games too.

Cannot check now because G940 is not connected, but if we cannot really change it, i must forget the game.

Codex 03-30-2011 08:13 AM

Can confirm. I've set everything to 0% and it's "hard on" :P

Eklund89 03-30-2011 08:16 AM

You can pull out the electric plug from the joystick and it will work without any forces.

Kankkis 03-30-2011 08:18 AM

Codex is it flyable that way?

Kankkis 03-30-2011 08:19 AM

Eklund, then there is no centering spring at all, i must myself center the stick, i cannot fly that way, think driving a car and the steering is not centering itself at all, impossible.

JG301_HaJa 03-30-2011 08:20 AM

Well since I don't have the game yet I can't be 100% but under the main menu in
logitech profiler you can find some options.

Go in under the second menu (edit) and the bottom option is for settings particular
for the game you have choosen.

Sorry for any confusion but I'm on a swedish setup and I don't know if the English
version calls the menu with the same names.

But anyway there is an option to turn down the centering force for the game in quistion
wether it works or not I can't tell yet.

That doesn't work, for reduced FF effects the game/sim has to support FF effect. Since CoD does not support FF the G940 just goes to 100% centering strength.

JG301_HaJa 03-30-2011 08:25 AM

Aha, then we're sol I guess.
I thought this could be used in games not FF enabled for reducing the center spring
force.

If i remember right there was a tickbox in Windoes joystick settings for nonFF games, of course i can remember wrong.

below link is not G940 but similar, have you tried put tick on the "enable Centering Spring" and then reduced it?

JG301_HaJa 03-30-2011 08:35 AM

As I said, can't try yet because the game is not here yet. I just responded to some questions :)

Will experiment the following days though.

But if I read the menu correctly it is supposedly able to do just that. That is my belief anyway and I'll soon find out.

It works great for me. I did that before the first firmwares and software updates came for the g940.

JG301_HaJa 03-30-2011 08:45 AM

This is the setting in the profiler that is supposed to work with non FFB games. It's
marked in yellow:

Kankkis 03-30-2011 08:48 AM

Same thing what i was thinking :)

But i'm pretty sure they have tested it, so we must play with limb or 100% stick, both are not possible for me.

Kankkis

JG301_HaJa 03-30-2011 08:51 AM

Yes, perhaps true but I also believe you have to reduce all sliders above to 0% since this profile is for the game not having FFB

Kankkis 03-30-2011 09:07 AM

Jep and "Enable Centering" must be ticket, no ticked when playing FF games.

Yeah it is. It is annoying but I can live with it for now, I'm sure the devs will activate FF soon.

I wouldn't want to dog fight for hours on end in its current state though.

Kankkis 03-30-2011 09:17 AM

and you tested that picture yellow method, put thick and lowered strenght.

100% with it.

Maybe we must test RoF without FF and check is there 100% centering in G940 too with game FF off.

cato_larsen 03-30-2011 09:26 AM

For me it does not work to tick the option on and adjust.
Now, I have not fiddled a lot with the settings, as there is no FFB to fiddle with.
I love my G940 :):)

Kankkis 03-30-2011 09:30 AM

Cato can you fly CoD with 100% nicely?

chappy 03-31-2011 01:59 AM

I have G940 also, i see no way to remove the massive centering spring pressure that occurrs due to this 'sim' not supporting FFB, aside from turning the stick off completely and dealing with a limp wobbly stick as the alternative.
Now I could have lived with no FFB for a period of time (i would expect it to be addressed eventually cause in this day and age its ridiculous that there is NONE in a new title)
but what i find absolutely DISGUSTING is that the developers havent even bothered to address the issue of the spring centreing force of the G940 and the fact it makes it effectively unplayable. This is, i would think, a fairly popular joystick these days, and to not have tested this and either addressed it or made it quite clear it doesnt work on release is really quite pathetic.

kimosabi 03-31-2011 02:57 AM

How does all the axis assigns work for everybody? Seems like every time I start up the game, it reports different axis/buttons and I have to set it up again. It's not a save issue, the inputs gets different names from time to time, for example: Previously assigned 1Y Ailerons don't work anymore and when I re-assign the same axis then it's suddenly called 2Y. etc. etc.

I find it odd so many of you with G940s think 100% centering spring is too tight and unplayable....I had to bump it up personally as I found, with non-FFB games, that 100% was too limp. I also had to turn up FFB for games that support it to 115% to get satisfactory resistance. That kind of limp wristed stick is why I always avoided Saitek. I hope they get FFB in soon, but if it uses centering spring I will be okay with it for a short stint, but then I get to wait till 4/19 and hopefully it will be implemented by then.

chappy 03-31-2011 05:35 AM

@kiku all i can say is ,it must vary from person to person. The default stiffness of the G940 (we're talking how it is when u boot up the computer, not in games where it actually works) is very very stiff and would give most people RSI if they tried to use it for more than 30mins in one go.

having said that, simhq users have found one bypass to this now:
Adjust your centering spring to desired %, start any other game that does actually support FFB/G940s (DCS A10/KA50, IL2 previous titles etc etc), do a quick mission/flight, exit soon as u like, then close that and start COD. the previous setttings should be left on the stick from the other game u started playing.

@KIMO, that problem is probably G940 profiler related make sure u have settings such that the currently designated controller doesnt become the default controller, that in effect re-designates the controllers 0,1,2 depending on which one uve been fiddling with in the profiler. There should be an option to stop that happening somehwere in the profiler from memory.

JG301_HaJa 03-31-2011 05:40 AM

I simply had to :D Still not convinced steam is good but perhaps I can change my mind
in the future ;)

I don't have this stick, but do have a suggestion that may help you guys. Get a bag of rubber bands that are the same size, put one over stick center then hook it over one corner of the stick base. Four rubber bands on the four corners will keep stick centered evenly. Keep adding in fours until the centering strength is too ur liking. Should hold you until a fix comes your way.

Heliocon 03-31-2011 06:37 AM

Wow I was about to buy the stick this week too... :(

mazex 03-31-2011 06:41 AM

Threads move to fast here for me now :)

Do we have a confirmation that they will fix the FF support? I have a G940 myself so I am a bit concerned like the rest of you... It's impossible that the ultimate flight simulator should lack FF so it must be some late fix that broke it? I am a bit concerned as Oleg was having some vague argumentation about the problems of implementing FF support a while ago but I did not take that seriously. Heck, the only "flight sim" I have written myself had FF support, and you could not even start from the ground ;)

*Buzzsaw* 03-31-2011 06:45 AM

Salute

Has anyone had any experience with the Microsoft FFB 2 stick in CoD?

Wondering if the same problem occurs?

mwolf 03-31-2011 09:37 AM

Hm, I hope all things will be ok untill I get a hands on my CloD

kingpinda 03-31-2011 12:42 PM

nope... no FFB. furthermore whatever you try to do with the logitech profiler... in game will be the max force present as if you werent in game... its not playable with power connected to the device. I unplugged AC power and will have to fly with limp stick to not break my device...

chappy 03-31-2011 01:25 PM

refer to my previous post about a workaround that involves loading a REAL sim that works with G940 first to benefit from its effects before loading up this POS

kingpinda 03-31-2011 06:12 PM

hmm i missed your previous post. I'll try that. thanks

mazex 03-31-2011 07:23 PM

Weird, got CoD today it sure is playable with my G940 even though it's a real disappointment that FF is not in the game. I am sure they will add it as there is a row in the conf.ini with FF=1.

I have a self centering spring that works rather OK, not that hard - or is it me that is too strong? ;)

Hatch 03-31-2011 07:50 PM

Well it's kinda disappointing we have to resort to workarounds because of this omission.

Il2 won't be leaving my harddrive soon LOL

I'm even contemplating WoP instead of buying this.

I'll follow this until perhaps the first patch but I'm quickly losing interest.

Feaver 03-31-2011 07:53 PM

If the developers could give a definite confirmation as to whether FF will make it back in, or if they plan to leave it out permanently would help us make some clear choices.

Cheers,
Feaver

kimosabi 03-31-2011 08:43 PM

How is everyone's throttle working BTW? My range is totally screwed up(not totally totally). I can move the throttle 1/4 of it's range and it moves across the whole in-game range. Which means that if I move it just a nudge, BANG full throttle. Tis a G940 truutle.

EDIT I THINK I GOT IT! SLID0RZ AND RANGE IN THE SETUP!

I guess the stuttering is a bit higher on the prio list now ;), but I agree - a simple: "yes it will be included later" would be nice...

kimosabi 03-31-2011 08:48 PM

I just noticed this, mazex: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=19934

Don't have time to play with it right nao though. Calling it in for the night.

i think i fixed this issue by changing the max% slider (when you have the throttle axes keybind selected) to 95 or 100%. that gave it full range of movement.

have you solved your joystick ID changing problem with the profiler as well? Its under global profiler settings (in the g940 software not the game), under general behaviour make sure the 'switch selected device to ID 1' is not checked.

Yes I have solved it. Both the slider range settings and unchecking the "switch selected devie" thingy worked. Thanks! The game does work pretty well with the G940 now, although the lack of FFB is a bit disappointing and takes aways some immersion for me.

The game itself though is too stuttery for me yet, so I'm patiently awaiting a patch or two. :)

bongodriver 04-02-2011 11:43 AM

I thought you could turn off centering spring in the profiler?

kimosabi 04-02-2011 12:33 PM

Jah, you can. Problem is that the FFB tensions, included the spring, pops up on full force regardless of profiler settings when you launch the game. You gotta keep two profiler windows open to not let the game do that.

or download the forcefeedback test app in the other thread.
create a new profile ie. cliffs of dover. set this profile to exclusive in the global settings, then Set your desired forces in the logitech profiler under game specific. the top 3 ones. forcefeedback power, centering and dampening

Then open the test app and tick centering spring and dampening. you can instantly feel the inputted forces. just leave this app open and start up your game. the forces stick.

If you need to tweak the input: exit tester, correct forces in profiler, restart tester and tick required boxes ie. centering spring and dampening and leave it open. start game.

edit here it is: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthr...t=19922&page=2

kimosabi 04-02-2011 02:32 PM

Yeah, ofcourse I can download another program but why? It does exactly what my profiler does now.

kingpinda 04-02-2011 07:25 PM

I'm sorry it was meant in general. For people like me where the profile doesnt work.
