Very Large printable map of game area?
Will their be a LARGE printable map (PNG, GIF, and JPEG) of the game map produced??
At least A3 and larger (11"x17" and larger). I also have access to a plotter and have printed wall sized maps before (Very useful!) A lot of print shops also have plotters and a large print is not expensive. |

If not, I guess the community will find a way. |
Especially as the collectors edition was cancelled in most of the world... Really would have liked that map there!
|
Yeah, this I would buy in a second. An DCS community member made an outstanding HUGE map for the DCS world, OUTSTANDING. I would LOVE to see this for the COD area.
|
Map in works?
|
|
I removed the russian title in the middle and made an a3 size pdf out of the map. only 1 megs in size.
EDIT:!! DOWNLOAD LINK HERE: http://www.2shared.com/file/zbMG2EvT...ionskarte.html There are colored, black and white + a large map that you can make by gluing or tape A4 size map parts together. sneak peak (reduced size to 640x480) http://i8.aijaa.com/b/00844/7934263.png |
I've re uploaded here if your struggling ckanchat

Here's a link to a fairly uncomplicated map that shows the main towns and cities, as well as all of the 10 & 11 Group airfields.
http://asisbiz.com/il2/Spitfire/MkI-...land-1940.html |
what the... ?!? This map is exactly the map from the CE, except in Luftwaffe style.
I can't read or understand russian... so, is it a coincidence find? Or is it the work of some very, VERY good Photo-shopper? |
Thank you, thank you, thank you...
It's fantastic!... If only, someone more talented than me could remove russian writings from larger version. |
I've just done a "print screen" on the in-flight map and printed it onto am A4 page. I will now write in the names of the airfields from the Battle of Britain/10 & 11 Group map that I printed out from another website earlier in the day.
|
Just a suggestion Mungee, you can use the full misson builder map for airfields, I notice the one you linked to is missing Ramsgate & Littlestone which are currently being used for the RAF in the MP misson that the servers are using.
|
I just wish the in game map had city/village and airfield names on it.
Not being from GB, or Europe, I am lost except for London. It would be like me showing you a map of my state of Ohio with no place names on it, and telling you your mission will be to fly from Wood County Airport to Mansfield Lom Airport via Lima and Bucyrus. |
;)

edit: updated map and download link included
I have been working on a large-scale map of the English Channel for my own use but you are welcome to use it if you want. It's a 10752x9126 pixel PNG, weighs in at just over 90MB and was generated using some of the Cliffs of Dover game assets. Airfields and major urban areas are shown though the map is still a work-in-progress and additional airfields, towns and other landmarks will be added in future. There are a handful of known issues e.g. in some cases text label placement and colours need to be tweaked for readability. Download link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N5TH44FT [edit: updated link to the final version of the map] |

Really great map when finished. Thanks;) |

I hope it's ok, but I threw together a quick 'deepzoom' render of this map, to make it easy to view on-line. It costs me a bit to host it, so not sure if I'll leave it up (or even if you are ok with it, let me know if any problem at all) but it's fun to play with. https://s3.amazonaws.com/zoomreadsl/TestPage.html Hint: Use your scroll wheel :) |
Sure, fearlessfrog, feel free to use the map image however you want. That deepzoom tech is really impressive. You've given me some impetus to look into it for another project that's on the backburner, thanks.
I've fixed several known issues with the original map and have edited my previous post to include a new download link. The new version of the map now includes the western-most map tiles including the Cherbourg peninsula, has text labels for airfields and population centres in Normandy and has a few more town and landmark labels throughout. The new link is: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N5TH44FT [edit: updated the download link to the final version of the map] |
Really great stuff and work.
|
Would be extra nice if the runways were highlighted a different colour than the brown of the towns/roads.
Other than that nice work :) |
Working on one. Its about 4900 x 4000 pixels. the idea to make one complete large map that can then serve as a common base to produce smaller more "desk friendly" versions.
http://img644.imageshack.us/img644/913/scgcodmap.jpg Purple lines and digits are the RAF grid as depicted on the real world maps. A close up of the map. The Black lines are the railways, these need to be hand drawn. I am yet to add the French rail system http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/6420/walm.jpg |

Great:)
Any chance of having ingame image of spit or 109 in same size like this map ? Really want to decorate my wall with yellow noise 109 or spit. |
Nice one IvanK, the best you have airports that the games use and grids exelent ,would you share it when you are finish ;) And when would you be finish wit it :D
|
Yes, really great maps here. Cant wait to have it. I really like it how the airfields are pointed out.
Cheers |
I will share it when its done. Just need to add the French rail system ... no idea on a timeline though.
|
The raillines drawn by hand? wow... I must find myself a large printer... Let's put this on silk ;) |
Good work gents!
Feel naked without a map... IvanK's map looks very promising  . |
The impressive thing about IvanK's map for me is the fact that there's a railway line between Shoreham (by sea) and Horsham. The line was closed in the 60's so it shows real attention to detail.

Just finished some final adjustments to the CoD English Channel map, including making the airfields more visible, highlighting the runways and showing their true in-game position, orientation and length which should make lining up for an approach easier, and adding new locations and landmarks.
A couple of sample images showing map details are attached. The map terrain and airfield/runway geometry are derived from CoD game assets and are therefore accurate representations of what you will see in-game. As before, the final version is a 10752x9216 pixel PNG and is over 90MB in size. The map can be downloaded from: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N5TH44FT |

Hi Wooster,
now its fantastic. City names and airports are all there. The only thing that i need is a printer for that huge map:rolleyes: and a big wall to attach it:-P |

I have separated the standard gauge system, the 1 m gauge system and the specific German military system developed for the big guns. You should know however as far as France is concerned that most probably a very small part of the standard system is shown in-game, and most probably the 1 m gauge and military are not there at all (for now). There are also many issues on the map itself, which I hope will be addressed later (like nuclear power plant landscape items, or 1975 harbors...things like that; some airfields are not completely well placed, and three of them should not exist at all. Some names are not spelled properly, and there are many other issues (devs are aware of all this, but corrections are certainly not a priority for now :-) ) Let me know if I can do something for you (if you know how to convert a kml to a string of map positions, it might help if your map can be geo-referenced)! PLEASE offer the full resolution 4900 x 4000 map! I have access to 48" plotter! :) |

Brilliant map. Quite useful!
|
Using a tool called posterazor http://posterazor.sourceforge.net/ you can make a big map out of the map Wooster posted with a regular A4 or A3 capable printer. I just did it, now I just have to glue all the pages together :D
EDIT: If you get a runtime error in the last stage try to resize the map a bit. Let's say like 10% off of the original then it should work. |

Hello Ivan!
As a kml it is all in data. However you can select the line(s) you are interested in, display it on Google Earth and save the image in such a way that the totality of the line is visible as well as some landmarks: after that you can scale it in a Photoshop layer and either extract it as a color, or copy it manually. I had to reproduce manually all the details (the track layout precision is usually better than 1 meter...) as this data is intended for the in-game landscape, but for a navigational map you can afford to be less intricate, so the manual reproduction method above should be quite OK. JV |
Hi Guys,
I've taken Wooster's map and put it in PDF format. It's 3 pages wide and 4 pages long (A4) So 12 pages large. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V6JDRVQN I was messing about with margins but didn't' have time, so there's a tiny bit of white space between the pages, but you can just cut these off or fold them. I used posterazor on Ubuntu to generate the PDF. |
Just a quick FYI (I'm sure you're already aware of this), with the new beta patch there is now a lot more detail on the map with more towns being named and a few new airfields like Westhampnett, the satellite airfield for Tangmere.
|
sorry to come back to this old post but I was wondering if there has been any new work made on these printable maps,
thanks to the guys who have put a lot of time and effort on them. |

Most of the locations were made using darts from 10 yards away, and 2/3 of them are not even designating airfields. If you want real locations, tell me, I will send a kmz file. Even MG who had this kmz file made some slight positioning mistakes, but admittedly small and not too many... MG serious airfield errors are of a different nature (runways/L_T/O directions were none really existed, and usually not even representative of preferred axises, wrong shapes, haphazard hangar locations, no clear boundaries etc etc). Hopefully a revision will be possible later... JVM |
IvanK
did your map ever get completed and can we get it somewhere? btw, I notice that Wooster's link and a couple of others on the back of it are the subject of anti-piracy action by the US Govt. |
Please, could any kind soul update the cursed megaupload link?
Thanks a lot. Salutes. |
I have the 'English_Channel_1940_10752x9216_terrain' file - is that the one you guys want? I've lost track... 90 MB PDF, am happy to upload somewhere.

many thanks to the people making these maps, looks like it would have been a big job !
does anybody have experience having these larger maps printed at a commercial printer place ? is it possible for ex to have them printed on silk or canvas type material instead of paper ? or is paper best and then have a thin lamination layer over the top (to prevent an often used map from tearing, or even allow erasable drawings to be made over the map for specific missions for ex) |
My own personal choice would be on paper, then laminated, because then you can mark the maps for missions (course, turning points, timings etc) and erase the marks afterwards.
|
Some update? ;)
|
I am away from home at the moment. Its going to be a week before I can upload it.

Still waiting for large printable navigation map. I could design one if needed. Scale 3in = 50km fits on A3 13" x 19"(329mm x 483mm) paper. ChicagoChad |
Quote:
3in = 50km is aprox. a 1:650000. I have a photocopy map which is 1:400000 and its very difficult to see the landmarks for LL navigation. Thats why I say that maybe a little bit bigger would be better regrads and thanks you for your offer |
Here is the map in jpg format.
The Railways on the UK side are all hand drawn and correlate with period rail maps (Actual RAF Maps 1inch to 1 mile AIR Sheet 12 dated 1943) and in game. The Purple Grid overlay is as per the original UK Cassini grid that was used on Operational charts. Size is 4964 x 4220m pixels http://img644.imageshack.us/img644/913/scgcodmap.jpg A closeup of the railways are depicted: http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/6420/walm.jpg Also Horsham as a town is now depicted in the Sim :) https://rapidshare.com/files/2608387..._with_Rail.jpg |
Thank you.

Thanks Ivan!
|
thank you, tahnk you, thank you, but...
Any chance of getting a bigger res? Im not printing it, i display it on another computer so the map dose not mess with the game window. |
The community at its best.
Thank you!!!
Salutes Majo. |
Thank You!

4964 x 4220m pixels is the source image so thats as big as its going to get.

But have a look at the maps and cards from Tom, too. |
Artist,
Following your tip, I found this other VO101_Tom good job: http://www.pumaszallas.hu/elmeleti-a...sh-verzio.html And a printable to assemble version: :) http://www.pumaszallas.hu/elmeleti-a...to-verzio.html Thank you! Sokol1 |
Quote:
These new things didn't announced here yet, because the renewed pumaszallas started only two days ago, and we don't finished the transfer of the materials, articles. But, if you found the DR disk, I recommend you the russian flying computer, the NL-7 too (I upload these articles today :) ). http://www.pumaszallas.hu/elmeleti-a...sh-verzio.html http://www.pumaszallas.hu/elmeleti-a...to-verzio.html The using principles is the same as the DR disk. Here is a very good, long and profound document (english) of the DR disks versions, history, and using (by Ronald van Riet). There is a short part of NL slide ruler at the end of document: https://sites.google.com/site/slider...edirects=0&d=1 |
Cool! Really cool!
|
You have Walmington on Sea on the map! (The fictional home town of the gang from the tV series Dad's Army).
Is that in the game...on the in-game map too? http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/6420/walm.jpg |
Quote:
There is no such a town in the game... |

Congratulations for you job with DR and NL-7 (I have found this too :) ), very well done. I previously see some E6B simulators (a printable one is available in XPlane forum) - partial/poor done, and the Russian НЛ-10М and НРК. http://www.aviahel.ru/arhive/?event=28 http://www.aviahel.ru/arhive/?event=29 These two use pictures of old ones - is barely readable. BTW - You know if are some kind of disk to calculate drop angle - for CLoD JU-88/He 111. I dont like to use Bombsite Table2, Shturman, Bombs Calc to this. Sokol1 |
Quote:
I see, the guy who made this NRK disk run into the same problem as I. Due to photo angle the disk will be inaccurate (conspicuous if you turning the wheel/ring). The difference was little, but i don't want to release my disk. It takes weeks to looking the right pictures. My luck, finally I bought an original DR disk, and i was able to scanning the disassembled disks (flat surface, 2400 dpi - 7600x7600 pixel  ) After the scan, the vector graphics and flash programming was a fast work :) Sadly I don't know any bombing calculator, but thinking about to construct one... The project still in a planning stage :) |
Ivan K ' map Request: No Purple Layer.
Hi Ivan K,
I would like to use the map from http://www.abload.de/img/clod_withrailr3kut.jpg But without the Purple Dept. Of Defence Purple Layer.. Just a clean detailed map of the game terrain. Preferably with a scale bar at the bottom for kilometers, Nautical Miles, and statute miles. In fact I would use the borders of Tom's map http://www.pumaszallas.hu/Private/VO...iew_map_ct.jpg with the image from Ivan K's map. Even Tom's map has a sector overlay. Which is unfortunate as the sectors vary between missions. TIA: Dave Decay. |
Any more work on a detailed map for COD? Most of the links are dead
|
|
|
Thanks for the quick responses
|
