TV Question

Anyone of our fine, intellligent, PS3/Xbox obsessed community (myself included, of course) utilizing a plasma television. I'm looking at a Panasonic Plasma S2 series (middle of the pack in Panasonic hierarchy). Doesn't knock me out for regular television watching, but I've heard it is awesome for gaming, blu-ray, etc. And you can get the monster mombo giant screen for not a lot of bucks. Any thoughts appreciated. Thx.

I use a 10 year old, heavy, cube. The quallity is terrible, can't read most writing on it. Get a new TV if you have a bad one.

Yeah....that's the idea. Looking at a Plasma for the size vs cash ratio. Wanted to know if anyone had one and liked it because i've not yet seen a plasma/ps3 combo in person.

If you're tight on bucks, you could always get an older HD Rear Projection TV. I have a 55" one that's about 9 years old that I got really, really cheap (free from friend of mine) and it works pretty good on games and regular tv watching.

You can find some good deals on them if you look around. Craigslist usually has a bunch of 'em.

Korsakov829 11-12-2010 01:09 AM

I mean.. mine is so horrible! Imagine static while your trying to look for a plane on Sim. Thats what I get, static lines and dots all over. To top it all off their are vodka stains, bread crumbs, and dust all over it. I can afford it for sure I'm just too lazy. So this is my excuse for having a average 20 deaths per Sim game.

Chowbird2 11-12-2010 02:42 AM

You can't go wrong with vodka stains and bread crumbs...the dust you could probably do without.

Howdo mate,

I've a Sony Bravia II 200Hz which whilst not plasma is pretty damn good.
That said the girlfriend has a 52" Plasma Panasonic and I played red dead on that last week and was pretty impressed.

Hi Chow.

I dunno sheitz about TV tech, but I know one thing fore sure, dont get a crappy one if u gonna play alot. Put money in it or u will only be sorry after.

I got a 42 lcd " Phillips "dunno" hrz, its only 2 years old and should be ok but the lack of brightness, sharpness and slow speed of screen update pisses me of.
This is a major problem whilst flying and looking around since the screen update is laggish and blures out. I am constantly trying to optimize its performance.:evil::evil::evil::evil::evil:

i was put off of getting a plasma(low life, screen burn)but they have improved so worth considering
go look at the av forum,it helped me. whatever you get dont forget to calibrate it

Personally I would staty away from a Plasma, they are expensive to fix if they go out, and the bad thing about plasma is they get a screen burn really (images staying on screen) easy if you leave a game on pause. I have a LCD and you can get one of these now a lot cheaper than they were a year ago.

Chowbird2 11-12-2010 04:05 PM

Thanks for all the input. Dave, you're right, I saw a Samsung 6 series LCD for about 2 grand less than it was a year ago. Awesome picture. I was getting the wandering eye towards a plasma because those suckers are so big...kind of tempting. I better stop talking about bigger is better or you guys are gonna light me up with the double entendres...

My wife just told me with a smirk.."There's no way you're getting a new monster TV...there's nothing wrong with the old one"..............game on.

Korsakov829 11-12-2010 05:47 PM

I feel so envious of all of you. My TV sucks.

Go get yourself a new TV, before you feel depressed.

Akula 11-13-2010 06:31 AM

I have a 22'' Vizio LCD TV, and it works just nicely for the price. Not too big for my needs and not too small either.

do you have a tendency to throw things are the screen, perhaps?

Korsakov829 11-13-2010 07:51 PM

I tell myself, as I scream at the television that no one else is there to hear me. I might throw anything, from a shoe to a fish to compensate.

The sound on mine isn't all that great.

In Soviet Russia, TV throw fish at you!

Korsakov829 11-13-2010 08:59 PM

You better get a proper stand if you have a fragile TV. But don't worry, PS3 and Xbox 360 work fine without a television. I once knew a fellow who tried that but he might as well have been a zombie.

panasonic

Hey Chowbird,

I have a Panasonic G10 plasma and it is awesome. I bought it brand new over a year ago for $1050, you can probably get for a lot less now. As far as plasmas go...panasonic is the shit.
