For those waiting for the patch

Be patient...

Ace Combat 6's MP had many of the same problems this game has and a patch eventually came out that remedied those problems, BUT it took 6 months. Take a look at what the patch took care of: patch notes. Because of the similarity ill give IL-2 the same time frame before I give up on it.

I don't believe the guy running around the forums posing as a 505 employee. If you want to believe him and abandon the game, go ahead. I'll buy your copy for cheap and give it to one of the guys on my squad that wants to play but can't afford it.

In the meantime there are plenty of us still playing. Sure it may be hard to find matches 24hrs a day, but this ain't Halo. If you cant find a match at noon on Sunday it doesnt mean the game is dead, it means that people go to church, eat lunch, or have something better to do on a Sunday afternoon. When you get on and can't find a match, HOST ONE. I can say with great confidence that you aren't the only player on the planet looking for a match.

If you love the game but feel you can't play a fair game until the patch comes out, find players that fly with a crash ethic and fly with them. I know plenty of players that will hold their plane up long enough for you to get your kill. If you are in a squad but holding off on challenges because of crashing, lets play a match and declare the winner by number of deaths instead of kills. Also, some of the most fun I've had in this game is getting together with squad mates and doing some free flight. We do ATC, formation flying, touch & go's or just fly around and talk.

Sorry for another patch post, but I feel like speculation and misinformation on these forums is hurting the game as much as the lack of a patch.

there we go !
so there are still positive minded people on here :), good to see that.

I'll be waiting as long as I have to. I will be playing 1946, but I wont destroy my BOP game disk ;), so I will be ready for BOP whenever a patch comes out.

(unless storm of war releases before the BOP patch :P)

Draux man, give me a shout if you see me online, quite fancy a bit of formation flying, stunts, no guns stuff just for a change. Prob be on tonight for a bit...

PC vs. console

I don't know about you, but I sure would have liked to have known that this game was in this state upon release.

I paid full price for it, based upon the positive reviews -- which didn't delve into the issues we're facing. "Emperor's New Clothes" syndrome, anyone?

If I had known it would take 2 months or 3 months or 6 months or whatever, I would have held off this purchase and got it on the bargain rack, which is straight where this one is going.

PC gaming is a little more forgiving with the release / patch timeframe because fixes can be distributed more rapidly. As a primary console gamer, I have no patience in this respect. The game should be serviceable upon release; that is the standard of care, IMHO.

Indeed, After the death of my laptop last year i couldnt play any more 1946 :(

I was in effect 'Heartbroken' but ive just today bought it online and am downloading it right now, ive avoided doing this for a while now as i was uncertain if it would work on my PC as it is a bit outdated.

i downloaded the demo for the earlier Il-2 Sturmovik yesterday and it ran ok, so i just thought what the hell.

But hey ho worth a shot

I agree. As awesome is the ability to patch a game after release is, lately it seems like its being used as a crutch to rush a game out and then fix it later.
I'm just trying to let people know that a game can survive coming out broken and then getting fixed as much as 6 months later.

Great post draux…you can shoot me down anytime…oh, that’s right…you already do…lol

This is a common occurrence with most publishers.

While in some cases this is the case, I know of many cases where games have come out broken and never been fixed. The most famous case would be that of Hellgate;London whose developers folded one year after release of a seriously broken game. The title was actrociously coded, and never fixed.

However in saying that, the problems with BoP are trivial by comparison. The actual "bugs" are few its mostly adding features in the patch. For those who complain about reveresed rc controls, please take note that the definitions in this game are the same as many many other flying games on console/pc so the fault is not with the title it is with yourselves.

And as far as I am aware the patch is actually done and awaiting final qa and certification from the respective companies. Until such time as I am told officially otherwise, I wll continue to assume that a release is due at some point in the future.

That's totally right

except how can you compare IL-2 to a game like Ace Combat? Ace Combat is an arcade game and nothing but.

They do both have the lack of black and red-outs or any other g effects. But that's a lot more blatant in Ace Combat where you can somehow pull about 20 g's and not watch your intestines rip through the fuselage and fall to a squishy death on the ground below. It's forgivable with prop fighters but not jets.

I'll wait as long as it takes for there to be a good online, cause what choice have I got? There aren't any other sims on console, unless Heroes over Europe is for real, which I doubt. I know there's another ww2 one from Ubisoft, creator of arcade-trash Hawx and Blazing Angels, and I don't have to bother to check whether an Ubisoft title is any good. And Targetware beta on pc which is a really detailed sim that almost nobody ever plays, unfortunately

Not comparing the games, Im comparing the patch. If you look at what was in AC6's patch you'll see its basically what we are waiting for.

you know whats weird, I've never gotten a red-out, but I've gotten a couple of full black outs and I get near black outs all the time. I know other people have posted about it too, seems like black outs are in the game as is. Ever notice how your screen edges get fuzzy and dark when you pull high-gs? Thats the black-out.

Yeah Ive wondered that myself. I thought we already have blackouts and redouts. Are they just making it more debilitating when it happens?

oOoJunkersoOo 11-04-2009 07:30 PM

I've gotten a red as well before but not as bad as the blackouts.

Ancient Seraph 11-04-2009 09:01 PM

Red-outs and black-outs are in the game, but they don't trigger unless you're pulling a hell of a lot of G's. They're going to lower the bar for this to more realistic levels.

xX-SiLeNcE-Xx 11-04-2009 09:10 PM

Aasy way to near red-out (if you want to try it): Take the Me-163 in training and start at 9000 meters. Set your elevators to full senisitivity and do inverse loops until you hit the ground. XD. The whole screan goes red and all the sound fades out... It's quite neat actually.

I've run into them flying jets, but it's never made me lose control of the jet, which is what should happen. It shouldn't just be a visual effect.

Using jets online I've pulled insane turns 180's that didn't do anything at all.

The point was just it's better for a ww2 game to not have realistic g's, than for a jet game.

I know poster wasn't really saying IL-2 is like AC. Nobody would do that.

SgtPappy 11-06-2009 01:05 AM

I personally hope they make black/redouts better after the patch.

I personally dont mind them not appearing as often as they should, after all I can just pretend the pilot's wearing a G-suit :-P

It'd be more immersive to have them at least pop up noticeably at 4Gs at least.

They will be. But 4G's isn't that much.. :P. They said they'd make it more realistic, so we'll see. It'll definitely have a big impact on multiplayer.
