Real Sign of DOOM!
It is Saturday, 12pm and NO ONE is playing multiplayer in the ENTIRE world! Now that is a for sure sign that multiplay for this game has a cancer that is eating players away every day and even after a patch, if there is one and it addresses all the issues(which is VERY doubtful), this games MP will not last long.
Bought the PC, IL2-1946 and WOW!!!!! All the planes are there, no freaken greedy ass DLC scams, better flight and damage models, tons of players all times of the day and many more great features. Too bad the xbox 360 MP did not catch on and become as popular as the PC version...sad! |
The difference is that the 1946 dev's actually cared about the product and the community.
|
My IL-2 1946 is on order, I'll see you on there for a PROPER game :)
|
Do most people play through Hyperlobby still?
|
saturday 12pm has never been a good time for this game .. for me anyways. I have 'never' been able to find a game before 18:00, even on weekend.
Not a sign of doom anyways, yesterday evening I played about 8 games sim TD with 6+ people :) |
Game developers keep trying to convert the popular PC games to a watered down versions for consoles.
You can't expect such a game as IL-2 to be compared in any way to BoP. Hardware limitations will not allow it to happen. The original IL-2 series community has had a long and hardcore following for many years. The mission builders and skinners are some of the most dedicated modders in the flight sim genre. |
In my local gamestation i was amazed at how many pre owned copies of IL2:BoP was on the shelves. Not a nice sight at all :(
Game over im afraid guys, game over If you cant find a game, does that suprise you? thnigs have gotten ridiculously out of hand with this game and even the hardcore players are having their patience pushed. Im out. |
Don't worry so much Foz, gamers are a frickled lot. When the patch arrives, players will return.
Games go through cycles, there is always a big hoopla when a new games are released. Then the very first thing gamers start screaming for is a patch! This has happened in just about every popular game I've ever played. Players will leave but the gamers who really enjoy the game will be reluctant to let it go. |
You can find servers easily for iL-2 1946 via xfire. Very handy program that can also track on wich server your friends are playing. And it covers a-l-o-t of games :)
Just a tip guys  Link: http://www.xfire.com/ |
Well on PS3 I was playing with 5 other people on sim at 12:30..

looking forward to flying a saber too  |
What I hate about IL-2 1946, is that most 90% of the servers have external views on. Thats what I love about sim in BOP, that you have cockpit/virtual cockpit only.
The 1946 servers that do have cockpit only, are a bit too hardcore for me (have icons off, and teams are not red/blue, so you cant really see who is who. and the have the speedbar off, so you need to watch that low detail cockpit airspeed indicator all the time). anyways, playing some nice sim TD in bop now ;) |

Of the 17 players online right now, 7 are the IL2 players i met. Of that 7 only 1 is playing IL2, and that is MorgothNL believe it or not ;) Of those 7 i've only seen 3 play IL2 in the last week!! we need to face facts, the majority have gone and are going. I'll stick around but i dont see any epic fights happening anymore :( |
a lot of people left yeah, but hopefully some will return after the patch (looking at the thread about whos not playing and waiting, thats a fair amount of people).
The good thing is you only need 5 other people in the same time zone as you, to have a nice game. Last few days, I've had no problem finding those 5 after 18:00 hours :) EDIT: 8 man game within 5 min waiting :). (the amount of people playing lately seems more than it used to be imho :P) |

And in the hardcore servers - bind a key to zoom, it helps ID a plane so you don't waste energy diving on teammates planes. Also, tracer colors can be a dead give away for many planes. I play both server types- one of my computers has Track IR setup and I play full-real on that one, but prefer open cockpit on my PC at my other house because I don't have Track IR on it. |

cockpit only is often there yeah, but not the 'no external views'... wich I hate most (it takes away most of the pilot aspect I think.. ) |
I haven't given it up yet. I just been busy latey. I still get on for an hour or two a day, with the exception of the past several days. I play allot of training mode due to lack of people on line. This weekend may be tough, because here in Northern America, it is halloween, and many, myself included have been taking kids out trick or treating, or other parties, or family festivities..
I hope to get on a little tommorow (Sunday) to play some.. I dont' play as much as I did when it first come out, but that is to be expected with any game once the new wears off. But, I still enjoy playing it. But like anyone else, wish the patch would come out so I can get over some of the little irritants.. |
No PC as I use a laptop so it's XBOX only to the bitter end. Ok so far with finding sessions but sometimes the hosts game settings are odd - CTA in a Blizzard at night? Don't like them at all......:(
On a positive note, If only a few Xbox die hards continue to play:- a) our names will go to the top of the leader board b) MP unlocks easily obtained .................................. |
Well I am happy you guys discover the IL2 PC series, which is really the still the queen of the skies so to say, hehe. You come just a tiny bit late, the "high times" online were in 2003-2007...still a very long time for a game, with every night 1000+ players back then. Today many have wandered off or are waiting for Oleg's Storm of War - which promises to be a absolute blast by the way.
