Hurricane reigns supreme online....
 

Just played online, team death match with 5 players, sim mode.

Team A was myself and robotic pope, both flying hawker hurricanes.

Team B was Shectur, Benrizz, Tudorp15 flying 109G4, Spitfire IX and the I-153





It finished.......... 20/18 in favour of the Hurricanes. It wa a very very tough match and the enemy flew bloody well, they kept capitalizing on our (hurricane) short comings which most notably was speed. Me and roboticpope both got 10 kills a piece and were on the edge of our seats flying the hurricanes against 3 superb opponents. It was good to take the hurricane online in a straight out fight and see how it got on......

:( it really does lack speed which makes it struggle so much. You can use your turning ability to get an opponent, but as soon as they realise what your doing they just wont get into a turning fight. If you happen to have an opponent who can out turn you (I-153) then we were in trouble. Best thing i could do was get robotic to go into a sharp turn (providing it wasnt the I-153 on is 6) thus enabling me in my hurricane to be able to out turn his opponent. Or... after dying and respawing, getting maximum speed in a gentle dive and basically firing as many rounds as possible into a target, thus getting his attention and hoping he goes for a turn.

As a huge huge fan of the hurricane i can only suggest using it if the parameter is set to 1940. Unless you want a challenge. It struggles to much against later models.



This post was for 2 reasons...

1 - to blow the trumpet of the hurricane and get the haters off its back.. ;) you know who you are haha.

2- to give you a good idea of how if fares in a straight out team dogfight against more modern planes.

Thanks to all the guys above for a superb game, it was incredible and some great flying by all of you. Was an epic game and very tough. Was a pleasure flying with you. :grin:

This sounds like a challenge.. :rolleyes:. I'd love to take it, but then I'd have to convince Morgoth to play before the patch.. He got quite fed up with the whole I-killed-him-but-I-didn't-get-the-kill-business. Still, those three planes aren't exactly the line-up of the century.. especially against Hurri's. The Spit was the only one having an advantage.
Not saying the Hurri sucks, it's a lovely plane, let's just not jump to conclusions yet :P.
Obviously the La-7 is waaay above the Hurri :rolleyes:.

the I-153 was ridiculous to shoot. It was so slow, so manouvreable that we had trouble getting it. By the time they (enemy) had about 10 kills, we felt it best to just stay away from the I-153 all together because it was just causing us so much trouble. And i must admit..... :( it was winding me up so much that a few "choice" words did come out.


The 109 was trouble to because he wouldnt turn (he did at first but soon realised it was death for him) so he was trying head on passes and having some sucess.


Ths Shitfire was trouble, because he had the speed AND could manouvre, making it hard on us to get a good shot off.



All in all made for a great game. Very enjoyable and challenging.

That all sounds about right. With the I-153 it's the same as bombers in TB: The more attention you give it, the more kills it gets. And vice versa. Usually best to just ignore it. It'll get a few chance kills, but it shouldn't be much of a nuisance.

Your spit is all i use when i play online :D i only went with the hurricane so that roboticpope wasnt alone lol.

I saw the planes that you were using through other games so was trying to figure out what your tactics were. You fly well, it was a good game. Very close. A couple of times you got me with some crack shots. 1 Burst and i was down in the drink :( didnt even have time to piss in my pants lol.

Out of curiosity, what was the 109G4? Was it a K-4, G-6, G-10, or F-4? Or does someone have a magical version of the game with a 109G-4 in it?

My mistake... it was an F22 interceptor. How i got it mixed up with the G4/G6 i dont know. :P

Simple mistake on my part. It was the G6, definately a G model anyway. Tudorp was flying it, he'll tell you which it was, though im certain it was the 6 :D

Ancient is kind of right, you were 'lucky' with the enemies' plane choice. After the patch me and ancient will take your hurris on ;), in La-7 or spit.
Your choice if it will be at breakfast, lunch or dinner :grin:

Never had any problem against the hurri's, I kind of feel ashamed if they take down my La or spit. But I dont think it has happened for more then 5 times. Not because I feel like im better than hurri's but to be honest hurri's SHOULD be powerless against La or spit, but I will gladly be proven wrong ;)

Really think we should do a 2 vs 2 or something after the patch :)

Though against a spit.... i think if flown correctly the hurricane would have a chance.

not if the spit is flown in the same correct way ;), anyways, never encounterd a hurri who outfew me in a spit... perhaps you will be the first ;). grr, cant wait for the patch! :evil:

Is the Lufwaffe also allowed?

there is no greater sight in my Crosshair then a Spitfire Hurricane or any other RAF plane to see them Buckle, Break up, Smoke, Catch Fire, and Crash towards Mother Earth then THAT!

Wich german plane were you planning on taking against the hurri's? or a spit for that matter?

If the spit is flown correcly and so is the hurri.... then maybe it comes down to patience??


In the hurri i will not chase a spitfire, its futile. I will get out run comfortably. The only area the hurri excels in is its turning ability.


It would be a very boring game. I would stay low/medium and away from the spitfire. When he gets close just turn. Spitfire wants speed, i wont go for the chase :D

Hmm.. more shameless advertising from me, this is actually extremely useful for what you're planning:

In this topic Skoll announces he made a site to arrange IL2 battles. I've seen it, and it works great, if only we have enough people. The main item is a calender in which events can be posted, in this case planned flights/battles. People can subscribe for an event and it's possible to see how many did. You'll know exactly how many people are planning on showing up, and when it is. This works 10x better than a silver account friendlist if used properly. This is the site. Just sign up, that's it. Although only admins can create events, but there's a forum to post if you want an event on the calender.

Ah in a later Mk spit then it might be harder...or maybe easier since the turning circle isnt as tight as the MkI, hmmmmm lol. :P

Nah, the forum's not for discussing anything, just to post: Please admin, could you put an event for dd/mm/yy/hh? etc. You can just visit the site and in one quick view see if anyone's got anything planned. The only problem is the calender might overflow a bit, but that's only if there's a lot of members, and I don't see that happening yet.

sorry, im out of this one then. Dont like the 1940 to start with, and RAF vs Luftwaffe makes it worse. The hurri and spit are better planes than the 109 E-3. I never like the luftwafe vs RAF games, the german planes are too much nerfed in this game. The guns of the E-3 are bee bee guns compared to the hurri and spit armament, and that sucks with limited ammo.
(I normally fly allied planes, and the german planes are just 'too easy' to fly against. In normal games this is no problem, but flying only against the germans is no fun I think)

Gues I will see you in the air one day after the patch... in a LA-7 of P-51 :)

??

No idea how we went from one extreme to the other. Though as a side note...the 1940 set up does work ;) a few of us from this forum tried it (the post regarding the game is here somewhere), it was a very close few games. I think out of 3 games it was 2-1 to the RAF.

I was just planning on shooting down that hurri of yours with my La-7 or spit IX. That was you initial post, and that got my attention :P. You said the hurri owns online (thread title), and you were talking about flying against later year planes.

I just wanted to prove you wrong there :P. Just wanted to pick a La-7 or spit and bring down that reign of the hurri :rolleyes:

I was thinking of a normal 1945 game (no jets), limited ammo + fuel, dover. you and robotic pope in you supreme hurri's, and me and seraph in our nimble la-7 or spit ix.

But I see this is not the topic anymore :P. I'll just keep on waiting for the patch then :rolleyes:

There is no news what so ever on the release date of the patch. Wich is just frustrating to say at least. If I knew the patch would come next week, I would play now. But Ive got tired of waiting without news/hope, no date, week or even month to look out for.

I suppose it is in the hands of MS and sony now, so it will most likely come within a week or 3. But who knows, mightbe tomorrow, might be next year for all we know :(

I think both need to be released together though on each console. It was similar to another game. It had issues and took a while (think it was mercenaries 2??) to get patched, well it went through certification with MS but the patch couldnt be done until SONY sorted it at their end...taking even longer. I could be very wrong here though.


Point is.... i play this game with friends. Friends who love COD4, so MW2 is the next big thing to them. When its released i will no doubt be making the journey over their with them. Would just like to see some life brought back into this game before MW2 is released.

Im a patient man though, im sure i'll still be here lnog after MW2 is released. I enjoy flying to much haha

There are no games to find as it is, and the longer it takes, the more the online play of this game will die :(.
Good thing is you only need 6-8 people to have fun games, so hopefully some regular playing gamers from my time zone, will stay and play this game. But with the current lobby system, 6-8 people wont be enough, unless they time their gaming moments perfectly :(

i guess time will tell. As long as theirs enough people for me to play games then i dont mind.

I really hope the game's still alive after the patch. I'll be all pumped ready to jump in and shoot up some 109's in my patched P-51, then find that nobodies around. :(

:grin: Nice Tread Star Foz. It was a great game, Felt real good to win as we thought at the start we would get hammered. We got a good lead at one point about 14 points to 10, but they came back right at the end to equalise it, I thought it was lost at that point. Fortunatly for the Hurri's we got 2 or 3 quick kills for the max of 20 kills with about 2 minutes left

The I153 was a problem to me at the start as Shectur is a damn good pilot. But In the end I think about half of my 10 kills were Shectur's biplane as I found If I could catch him when he was concentrating on Foz's plane he was an easy kill with only a short burst of Machine guns needed to blow it up. So I was actually looking for the biplane first each time I spawned then move on the next plane which was almost always Benrizz's SpitfireXVI. I think I only killed TurdorP15's Me109 once right at the end of the match (19th kill of 20 between us) I don't know why that was.

I think that TWO Hurricanes together will perform better in a team than one LA-7 and one Hurricane together. Say if Foz had taken an LA-7 into that match he might have got a few more kills but I would have hardly any because when the I153 got behind him they would both be out turning me and I'd be unable to help. So yes the La-7 is better than a hurricane but in some situations it just ISN'T :P

After reading this I tried out the Hurricane--I think it was against Beaver Company in a Spit or something. It was great fun and it made me wish I had been there for this event. :)

Also, I decided to create a new acct., rather than having my Rubberboots acct totally unrelated to my XBLive name. :)

Wish you was their for the event, 3 hurricanes would of been a grea sight fighting various enemies over dover, and as robotic pope said, due to us all flying the same plane it would of made things easier for us.

In the right hands she's a nice bird.

We need to organise a big game for the 360, a "battle of britain" game.
