Steps:
Mode- Gray Scale
Brightness Contrast -Adjustment
Levels -Adjustment
Duplicated Original Screenshot layer
Apply Sketch Filter > Torn Edges to duplicated layer
Turn 'torn edges' layer opacity to around 45%

hey otto, could you tell me how you've achieved the 'scratchy old photo'-effect in the spitfire pic? I could use that myself, actually :)

It is a free photo editor, you will find that effect (and more) at the "filters" menu.

Great comic, sirid! :) That silly fisheye-zoom-out mechanism annoys a bit, however, making one wing significantly "longer" than the other. I wonder why they've implemented it in that way, rather than sticking to the old Il-2 style - just simple XYZ-camera movement.

yeh that english-german sure adds to the humor. i also think it actually looks really good with this water-paint effect. i would much rather have a game that looks like this, than a quasi-real world looking game.hahaha

Put a couple of screenshots at eyefinity resolutions on imageshack or something, link them here and I'm sure one of us will have a go - but we need the full-res screen to work from, stretching it would look awful. :)

Post Processing noob

If I had to make one comment though, it's that the narrow depth of field that you've chosen and the high viewing angle makes the plane look like a model in a diorama. If the background was more in focus, and if the "camera" was lower to the ground, it would be even more believable. :)

I must say though I'm not really seeing them as photo's, but more like paintings, which is meant to be a compliment. The most believably photographic shots for me are shots six and seven. If I ignore the trees, which I didn't even notice at first, the plane in those two shots looks like a toy left on the ground, which is a pretty neat effect imo.

Fantastic otto ! ive been thinking that your image are quite possibly the best in the thread so far.

These fantastic screenshots just make me wish why Maddox Games have not put in a proper consistent anti-aliasing method in yet. Its amazing how nice the plane models look in screenshots because of the downsizing which gets rid of the jaggies that plague this game.

They could also spend a bit more time working on the colours of the game. They have tweaked the lighting for the better but more needs to be done to achieve a better overall look regardless of time of day. If the game looked like some of these screenshots (and the sound was not borked) I would be playing it more regularly. :)

Just wanna get SLI with 2 GTX560 Ti, so i could get more realistic look to the game.. In a few years we will play games that look like movies ^^ Just look at IL 2 sturmovik COD at high settnings, and also Crysis 2.

It's most likely because he have made the smoke more realistic with some help from Photoshop.. Making nice pic of il 2 sturmovik COD seems to have a future ^^ Wanna go back to photoshop so i can make some nice pic :D
