And most of them are still buggy...

Would You buy a Heinkel HE111-H alpha test version for 10 Euro?

No and no. All the aircraft in RoF are free by the way. You can purchase the cockpits however, to make them flyable if you wish. Though that is not a donation. It is payment in exchange for a product.

But that's the point. You hand money over to RoF (donate) to have a flyable plane. In Cliffs of Dover, you don't have to donate for a flyable aircraft.

It's no good having your entire planeset being AI.

In RoF, there are many other things you have to pay for, such as an Aldis gunsight. It's their chosen business model.

I have both sims and both have strengths and weaknesses.

A donation is something you give a charity. When you donate something, you do not expect to get something in return. Buying an item in RoF is not a donation, its a purchase. You dont donate to a car dealership in exchange for a car. You need to look up the definition of DONATE.

While I like the system in RoF for buying planes ok, I dont care for the game itself. Also, it seems they are too much on making addons that generate money, yet fail to develop any kind of decent offline or co-op. Here, buy more streamers for your plane, and a new plane, and a compass! Yeah...all that is cool, but how about a real campaign, or some decent AI, or a real co-op mode? Nope...those dont make us money.

That being said, value for what you get in both RoF and CLoD seem to be lacking, imo.

I just saw Jason's response to your complaining He really slammed the door on you. Like Jason, I also look forward to your AMAZING WW1 flight sim.

I'm talking about on line play here. Buying yourself a better combat aircraft is just spoilt-child wanna-be-the-best-scorer no matter what it costs Daddy. Even though I bought many of the ROF planes, the on-line gravitation towards 'the best ones' put me off it and I wasn't going to be suckered into buying every single one they released just to keep up.

In short, learn to fly what you've got or you'll end up splitting the on-line community.

.....unless of course we have on-line mission builders who will stick to 'stock' aircraft of the last official patch. Then you guys can spend away.

+1
Apart from the fact I really just have no interest in WWI, what you described is exactly what I thought would happen in RoF, if thats true or not I dont know. Also Im quite into history so when people are getting DLC such as super rare optical gunsights and they are just commen, then its a real turnoff.

If IL2 goes down the DLC route as guess it will just be tough but I hope even if they feel they have too that accurate flight and damage models will be at the forefront rather than just cash driven sales.

As for mission makers simply making online missions for the free aircraft (or cockpits, if you wanna nit pick) I think you will find that those will be the unpopulated servers. However with 100 or less players online at anyone time currently anyway, what difference would it make? I really hope the sequal attracts allot more players. I also hope it has more than one map!

It's not the same in RoF. You give some money and get something in return. It is a purchase. A donation would be giving money to clod developers and receiving nothing in return, except the hope of making a real purchase later on.

It's not. The RoF free aircraft are competitive. In fact, the Spad 13 is one of the best aircraft in the game.

So the DLC aircraft, sorry - cockpits, are not so?

EDIT, I just went on the RoF forum and I am confused. Seems its not so free to play as you have to upgrade your demo? Can someone confirm this?

Also the add ons are mostly rediculous. Pistols, scarves and junk. Imagine if I paid 8USD and put an extra cannon on my 109E4? - Adolf Golland style? Something super rare just being included for profit. Nah its just all wrong.

On the instruments?! How can it be WWI if you kit your aircraft out with WWII instuments? Its such a turn off, I know I could just not buy them but knowing I was being out flown because someone had them would make me mad. - then I'd have to buy them....... Never gonna happen.

Nice selection of aircraft, With the sequal maybe IL2 will have the same amount in allot less time too... I just counted: 32 in RoF? 24 in Clod if you count the Heart Breaker... Thats not bad since RoF was out two years before Clod... So if we get only another 9 or more in the sequal flyable then then Clod will have more aircraft.

I just had an idea though if clod does go down the DLC route, just make us that dont like the model buy a bundle pack from the off. Twice ( or more?) the price for everything in that expansion, like "Ost Front", "Mediterranean and North Africa", "Pacific", etc, when it is released as downloadable content we get it automatically without charge. Then those who like to buy DLC can buy it a piece at a time and everyone who doesnt like that can just buy a bundle... That might make everyone happy.
  • Those that want to try the sim could do so without a massive price tag or feeling suckered into buying DLC, attracting more customers with a demo version.
  • Those who can afford a big pay out per sequal are not put off by the pay for DLC business model. The devs would get a cash injection before they had done the work.
  • Those who like the DLC model or could not afford the whole thing in one go could buy piece by piece. Fueling money into the sim long term.

Win for all!

Yeah, Jason gets his feelings hurt pretty bad when someone points out whats missing in RoF. After he slams CLoD and the MG developers, he cant seem to take the same level of crticism.

Glad you like me so much you troll me on other forums too. Do you have a crush on me? Kinda freaky.

Yes, I'm sure his feelings were so hurt that he had trouble getting to sleep after smacking you down. I look forward to your amazing WW1 flight sim. Then we'll get to see how you handle criticism.
