Unable to vote as game has problem after applying this Beta Patch:-

Half a screen of game window and the rest desktop, while the GUI/Briefings etc are fullscreen.

I noted a slightly decrease of fps (2-5) but a bit less stutters. I feel that playing with detail setts influences mostly fps but not the stutters. I can fly the france free flight at very low alt (100m) with settings very high at about 30 fps. Climbing to 500m raises fps to over 40 fps. Flying over bigger towns still drops fps to 20 and below, espacially if factory areas are in sight. Sometimes fps drop to full stop for a sec or two. If fps are dropping, gpu utilisation drops too, but cpu utilisation raises. (values by ATT overlay)

Posted this in the technical forum, but this beta patch doesn't even allow me to start the game.

I get the yellow A/C in a reticle icon, then nothing. I tried unchecking the windows Aero disable under compatibility, and still nothing. I had to revert back to pre-patch with Steam's integrity verification.

Hi there,
i had the same prob when i dowloaded the direct link files from megaupload and placed the dirs in my game folder.
Tried the torrent and they worked for me. Maybe something wrong with the downloaded zipfile, imo.

I have NO problem with waiting just as I would wait with rapidshare  what I do have a problem with regarding Megaupload is if there page isn’t serving up corrupt html so is not working then it serves up a working page with a countdown but NO download ever starts and there is NO button/link to press to start the download if it fails to start automatically after the countdown LIKE ALMOST ALL OTHER SITES DO!.

I don’t see why I should change from IE that works on 99.9% of websites to some other browser which inevitably will require you to still have IE for the much bigger quantity of sites they wont work on properly. ;)

Slight increase though it is a pain to have to adjust desktop size to prevent it running in a window at under native monitor resolution (I usually run my desktop at 2500*1600 and the game at 1680*1050 - so now I have to drop the desktop down, or it runs in a window and crashes when I esc out etc). ClOD Hopping (the 109 mixture bounce "feature") seems even worse in some scenarios - ie I now get it with temp effects off as well. Attached screenshot of black death test results - CPU was running at 4Ghz for this test.

Biggest problem with the patch is I get a Black Screen when starting up and need to Alt-tab out of the game and hit the launcher icon in the task bar to get back in properly.

I also get the game jumping back to Desktop for a few seconds, just before a mission starts and every time I hit Esc to use a menu in-flight. :(

This always happened in full screen, it just happened so quickly previously it went largely unnoticed.

It happens because they create an entirely new window for the menus each time you switch back and forth, rather than store the old screen in a frame buffer when switching between the rendered 3d game and game menus. Ordinarily as a programmer you create one window and store data for each screen that doesn’t have focus, so you can switch seamlessly back and forth between different screens when called.

Why they chose their approach is a little bizarre, and tends to suggests that the ui programmer is new, or out of his depth. Conceivably ,it could be due to their using .net for the games framework(they used java for earlier games), but it is unlikely, as I do not believe they are using so much graphics memory they cannot store the menu screens when they do not have focus.

For those for whom the game doesnt start: use 7-zip to extract folders, thatll help

For those having not whole screen covered in flight: set your desktop resolution to same as in game

Issue with patch:
Though v-sync is supported now i still have screen tearing and waves running across the screen (no matter what setting, v sync forced or applied by application) and the landscape still doesnt move smooth across the screen when flying by or even rolling and turning. Its seems the landscapegeometricschangees for different viewpoint is only done every 20 fps or so.

Cool, I'll try that.

I have also gotten a significant loss in performance, along with artifacts and a general feeling of disappointment. Seriously though, how do you roll back to the official version? We'll get there soon.
