I use a mixture of Janes, Obserber book of aircraft, pictorial history of aircraft warfare, and then some big ones whos names escape me

Process of elimination...

Its gear is down and seems to imply that the plane either made a succesful crash landing OR it was stationary and was hit by a bomb or ground fire etc.

The landing gear also comes "out" rather than "in" which narrows it down further....

at a second glace i also struggle to notice any gun ports on the wing.....
