Just had one ctd (launcher) today, after a couple of hours flying online and buggering on the bad behavior of the controls (stick, mouse and keyboard input, responds bad or not at all). Ended up flying with dirty configuration a couple of times because the gear wouldn't retract nor the radiators close.

Flying over London.
Overall it seems to run a lot smoother in high/very high settings. Minor freezes on changing views. Mirror still has issues with cubes and black streaks, so i'm not using it (well if you see the yellownose in it it's too late anyway...). Sometimes the shadows will cause black streaks in the pit.

Keep it up!

Can't launch missions from mission builder.

Either a little window comes up "Mission: AppParts not configured." Or the launch hangs at 50%.

Ze-Jamz 04-16-2011 01:27 PM

Better FPS

Bugs come back...no joystick input if i goto external view, cant get back into cockpit when goto external view...very very annoying

game still unplabale due to white dots Artifacts all over cockpit frame and plane model

BadAim 04-16-2011 01:28 PM

I have the game sort of back to the level of performance I had with the mod, but it's nothing to write home to mother about.

I did find that the missing buildings came back when I restarted the mission again (although it does seem like there are a few empty "lots" in Dover) so it seems like a texture loading problem.

I'm still plagued with flickering shadows though, seems nothing will get rid of them.

Conte Zero 04-16-2011 01:45 PM

Grabbing it from megaupload, it runs fast. Can't wait after all the enthusiastic feeback I've read on these pages.
Thank you team.

palker4 04-16-2011 02:07 PM

This patch intoduced a lot of crashes to my system. Usually what happens is that with every single mission i play FPS will go down a notch until game turns into a slideshow and then stops work completely.

I think it might have been due to changing video options several times (switching SSAO on and off multiple times, changing texture resolution, changing tree detail etc) during the mission, because I've just done the cross country flight again, flown around southern england for about an hour (inc to London) and couldn't reproduce the problem.

Wonderful patch!
Excellent work, gents...

[edit]
removed stuff about crashing game when turning on lights
...as it turns out, I had (somehow) managed to bind "L" to "Exit game"

*shaking my head in disbelief*

Game now runs perfectly, smoothly and beautifully.
That's all, carry on...

Also experienced quite a few crashes, didn't take much notice until the very last one I had. I was Ctrl-F2:ing to see some externals on aircraft when it crashed.

I havent crashed before but today is diffrent.

I always seem to crash in multiplayer after the beta patch.

However, I seem to have gotten an extremely annoying bug which happens at times, and I can't play the game when it occurs: Sometimes, the camera seems to start snapping to different angles for no reason, as in, I start flying, then suddenly the camera snaps to looking behind, then to the side, then top-down view, then zooming into the gun sight, then out again. It dosent happen all the time; For example, in Quick Mission and Campaign, I start a game, and the bug might not happen. I finish my flight, want to try again, and it happens. It sometimes happens a few times in a row (Even when testing a mission in the FMB). Restarting the game has no effect, it will still happen randomly. Rolling back to the previous patch with steam solves the issue, but I get reduced FPS. My system specs are as follows:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600)
Motherboard: ASUSTeK P7P55D
Processor: Intel Core i5 650 @ 3.20GHz (4 CPUs), 3.2GHz
RAM: 8.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB (It is a Sapphire Vapour-X)

I'd be happy to provide more information if it is needed.
Otellino

Thank god im not alone, and that its (seemingly) not just on my end. It doesn't seem to be completely random, possibly to do with framerate/looking at land/zooming in? Not sure. EDIT: What joystick/joystick drivers do you have Otellino?

Music off, surround.

Other Remaining Problems:

Apart from performance, there was still stuttering at low altitude over water in the short time ive used this most recent beta. This may have been due to me using higher settings (all medium) after deleting my configs. Sound stutters also when this happens, and can cut out (can be silent until reboot sometimes).
Controls sometimes get deleted in controls menu instead of just the key/axis.
Various other problems which I will leave for later.

Improving but.....

Definite improvement with Patch. Playable except around cities. Odd launcher crash. FPS over 20 now in country. Still quite stuttery in towns. London just about flyable but obvious filling in of textures in front of me. CPU Usage is <60% on my system with Dual Core & Hyperthreading. Need to get better CPU optimization, (or is it that the GPU is bottlenecking my CPU?????)

Running smooth now(over land and sea) with a large number of aircraft, NO stutters, multiplayer working. If it play for most people like it plays on my PC now, i think the USA release will be a big sucess.

PS: I want my bouncing needles back.

i have a dual core cpu at 2.4 ghz, 3 gb of ram and a 8500gt nvidia so im way under specs

still get 70-80 fps on sea with several planes on air an 40-30 over land running the game at 400*300 full screen

the problem is that over land though fraps shows 40-30 fps its hugely stuttering

i blame it on the buildings

if i could turn completly off the buildings that would be really nice

It looks like you got the trenches from RoF in there. Could it be Sim Cross-Polination?

AnarchyZG 04-16-2011 04:53 PM

I've noticed some issues which seem to be introduced in the beta patch:

1) online, after about 15 minutes flying sound became corrupted and then cut out completely, after a minute or so it came back. Did that several times until finally all sound was gone and didn't come back.

2) When I fired my guns at the plane in front, the game momentarily stutters (lucky for that Spit).

3) Short dogfight follows (I've noticed the switching of LODs of the enemy AC even though we were never more then ~600m apart). Game stutters once more, and Launcher.exe crash :(

In short:
I didn't have sound problems before
I didn't have launcher crashes before
FPS has improved signifficantly

BTW, slightly off topic: Why is the mouse look in CoD limited to 90 degrees regardless of FOV? Pan view (using a hat switch) allows full range of view but it is not smooth (jerky, rough pan view switching gives me a nasty headache) making it almost impossible to track the enemy using the pan view.

In Il-2 I bound the "mouselook" to hat switch (hat emulating mouse) to get the smooth pan view. How can one do the same in Cod? I really miss the simple and efficient mouse view of Il-2.. ;..-(

Massively improved framerates and 99% stutter free. Great job devs.

However, when using the stock Quick Missions, and using CTRL F2 or SHFT F2 to cycle through other a/c views, I keep getting CTD. CTD only ever occurs when doing this.

The fuel dump explosions are mightily impressive. Yes, you get a a significant fps hit (45 down to about 20) but this doesn't seem to matter.

Trees seem to shimmer a little.

Building pop-ups are virtually non-existent too. With original textures, all buildings disappeared though.

Flight over London is now a real joy.

Well done devs.

Somewhat better than the performance mod. Better FPS and smoother. Actually been able to play a while for the first time!

I can confirm severe stutter when starting Le Havre single mission. Some industrial building eats lots of fps.

Oh so now i know why my game crashes all the time. I cycle through enemy aircrafts after every pass i make to see what damage i have done

anavas44 04-16-2011 07:51 PM

I have found a way to reproduce the crashes. I mean the "Launcher.exe stopped working" error. I hope this helps the devs to fix it soon.

1. Enter the game
2. Select Quick Mission
3. Select the "Air duel - Low altitude" mission with the default planes
4. Approach the coast of England
5. Keep pressing Ctrl + F2 to switch between enemy planes
6. Alternatively pressing Ctrl + F2 will show the radar towers, too, but floating in the middle of nowhere, in the water. This is due probably to not having loaded textures yet. If you press Ctrl + F2 when in this state the "Launcher.exe stopped working" error will launch

Regards,

Rowddy 04-16-2011 07:55 PM

i just downloaded and installed the patch but on the menu screen it keeps saying i'm still in version 1.00.13954. What did i do wrong?

I patched it like this.. took the RAR.file and choose option to unrar in steam then it asks to overwrite files and i said yes. that is all it installed a new "parts" Folder in STEAM. (still got the old one aswell on my dektopas a back-up)

So why is my Update not showing me version 1.00.14072 ?? i did noticed less stutters but i also see the ambulances on the airfield driving about 20x faster as normal and ober and ober gain on the same piece of road as if the are in a loop.

djwolters 04-16-2011 08:15 PM

Just did a comparison between the old patch and the new one.

Short & sweet:
Over sea, the FPS has increased from an average of about 45 (patch 13954) to 75 (patch 14072).
Free flight over London shows an increase in FPS from 45 (patch 13954) to about 55 (patch 14072).

Stutters have decreased noticably: Moderate to Low stuttering over sea has decreased to undetectable. Stutters over London have decreased from Severe to Low

Game settings were:

Resolution 1280x1024, 75Hz / Anti-Aliasing: 8x /Anti-Epilepsy Filter: Off
Model Detail, Land Detail, Visual Effects, Damage Decals, Building Amount: Medium
Building Detail, Land Shading: Low
Grass, Shadows: Off / Roads: On

My rig:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, 3.2 GHz (I set the game to use 6 cores)
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
GPU: Radeon HD6970 2GB
OS: Windows 7 64-bit

With all in-game video settings maxed-out I get an average FPS of around 25-30. Stutters remain low; this last patch really has improved playability enormeously. Chapeau to the developers!

desastersoft 04-16-2011 09:19 PM

It is more FPS but some very little stutters now, what maybe are not reminded before because of bad FPS. Microstutters still available, but its now playable.

Performace: Much much much better than before, the game is really playable now! Congratulations to the team!

Graphics Glitches (didn't take any screenshots) while flying online (Kampfverband 13):

1. Black "fake aircraft" dots were visible twice during the session when in wide angle view but when "zooming in" (30 degree or so view), the dot disappeared. The dot was not only seen by me but also by my squadmate who flew alongside me. We saw the dot disappearing at the same time.

2. Cut-off shadows: When in wide angle view in the 109 I noticed that the shadow of the cockpit frame was only for a narrower view and appruptly ended.

3. Some black lines on the right side of the screen appeared over land. Looked a bit like my card was getting too hot or something

Gonna have to re-iterate this, although not expecting a fix before the important stuff. But the road spline tool, it's fubar in the FMB. Tried to create a new airfield, and lay some concrete to the runway, but a two point spline for some reason always shoots right down the the lower left of the map.

Bulldozer tool aswell, pls.

Better all the time but a ways to go...

Flashing scenery in some missions, mild stutters, etc. Place it and you'll see.

In many graphical packages a spline is a tool for drawing a curve. Can you use a spline with only the end points? Maybe there is another function for staight roads?

Also I have the Net Status function mapped to the s key and when I am typing in the chat window... if I use an s the net status windows pops up.. alway been like that though... but annoying.

Planes smashing into deck look fantastic... as long as I am not the one hitting the deck.

My 6 cores look like the are humming along ok... with the 1st core spiking every now and then.

can you make another LOD for the building at and around the Airport...as they pop in/out too soon and to drastic.

Getting Better

Much improved frame rates even with settings higher:). Action over water is excellent. Over London better and playable but still micro jitters. The game is still difficult to play because of the controller situation. I cannot get any view settings to stay on my Joystick (Logitech 3D Pro):( and I understand there are a lot of people with similar key mapping and joystick mapping problems. If you can fix that, I will be a very happy customer!

I haven´t noticed fps improvement but I have fewer stutters.

I have lots of luncher.exe has stopped working error when viewing objets in mission recorder.

Sometimes mission recorder stops working and I have to reinstall the game.

Can't download patch

I downloaded win zip and 7 zip and neither could unzip this. I did exactly as the directions said, download patch (I saved it to a download file), unzipped and selected unzip location exactly where they said and this is what i get:

! C:\Users\Derek\Downloads\Games\Cliffs of Dover\IL2COD_14072.rar: CRC failed in parts\core\core.dll. The file is corrupt
! C:\Users\Derek\Downloads\Games\Cliffs of Dover\IL2COD_14072.rar: Unexpected end of archive

I've downloaded the patch twice now and with no change.

SQB 04-17-2011 08:44 AM

First of all, sorry, I am an idiot (and have never installed them beta patch thingies before )
Do I extract the
a) actual file (as in IL2COD_14072etc.rar)
b) parts
c) core and bob as folders

into the directory?

Krähe 04-17-2011 08:48 AM

Hello SQB, I just extracted the whole contents to steam/steamapps/common/cod and it worked fine, just say yes when windows asks you to overwrite, hope this helps.

Better performance on Q9540 @3ghz, GTX570 and 8Gb DDR2 over land and sea.

Only one issue that I think is patch related- shadows cast by trees are now flickering.

I would ask the devs to consider (at some stage) incorporating a 'real guages' setting in difficulty options so users can select the old pnumatic guages for those planes that were equiped with them. Also if engines were cutting out or spluttering at a specific -g could we have the option to fly with those characteristics ?

I appreciate that you can't please all the people all of the time and it is case of finding a happy balance but there are a lot of people who appreciate authenticity and as it was represented in the game previously it would be a great shame to see it lost.

Good patch- thanks.

ReconNZ 04-17-2011 09:17 AM

Patch is great! FPS and stuttering much better -

Errors still outstanding: (that i can remember at the moment)

- Spit Mark 1 reverts to cruise throttle setting after takeoff with CEM off

- Multiplayer interface - no way of telling what time of day it is in the server before you join - we may not want to play night missions

- Multiplayer Interface - no way of seeing who is on what team in the server so you can join to keep teams even

- Multiplayer client interface defaults to LAN selection - INTERNET would be better

- QMB still doesnt let you choose weapon layouts for your planes

- Some stuttering still present

I'll post more as i remember them - hopefully these are all easy fixes.

Flanker15 04-17-2011 09:26 AM

Jumping the camera through the enemy aircraft quickly when they're spaced out can crash the game now. Only bug so far in an otherwise great patch.

JG14_Jagr 04-17-2011 09:35 AM

The Beta patch is great.. incorporated everything I was using formally into the GUI and the games immersion level if off the charts. Things I noticed

-The new Neg G Cut Out.. hate it..you really need to unt the nose over to get any kind of effect and even then it doesn't give you the sputting and black smoke.. I thought the original version was better.. But I would defer to whatever you found is the accurate effect at the accurate G loadings..

-Multiplayer on a server with a decent number of other players is incredible. The GUI to get there is a lot better but still needs work.. new pilots would be lost trying to figure out how to "fly".. even the final button press to launch can only be found if you scroll down a window.. Im sure a lot of people would not be able to find it.

FPS and stuttering improved with beta patch.

However now getting CTDs which never happened with any previous build. My gut feeling is that they occur when there's a LOD switch and new textures are loaded. But it could just be coincidence and the fault is more general and connected to the new texture manager or something entirely different I don't know, lol, you're the developers!

There were 5 crashes since the patch was installed. I compared each .NET runtime dump with Winmerge and they are identical. Each one shows this:

Hi ICDP,

You're right, the industrial buildings at Le Havre apparently have a bigger impact performance-wise than central London. Perhaps those building types have not yet been optimized.

I get around 20-25 FPS with severe stuttering over that area (game visuals all at High). Regular housing areas don't give this amount of stuttering anymore.

Turns out that was accidentally the RU version, so I went from the beginning with my backup and downloaded the regular version. But then I get "unexpect end of archive" ninja'd in by the guy who posted before me.

I'm gonna try the rapidshare/megaupload locations but this is weird and annoying :(

Not only AI Aircraft are having a turbo onboard. Its not so important but i mention this too.

I loaded the solo flight training mission, cause you can see many nice things like tents, flak, trucks and humans in their vehicle etc. Looking after the tractor wich had a fuel container i realized that it was driving like mad, sometimes slowing down but than accelarating like an P-51D Mustang.

Its only a little glitch.

Vlerkies 04-17-2011 01:50 PM

for what its worth the eng patch, 1C link gave me trouble and could not patch despite a few tries.
Torrent file worked (199mb)

Definitely runs smoother, thx.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this :-

The Texture size Option introduced in this beta is a really good option.
I have a HD6850 with 1GB (so a pretty recent and powerful card) and I still benefit a lot from medium.

BUT

Currently this is quite a clumsy implementation. It appears to reduce every texture in resolution. This is Ok for the most part but not in all cases.

eg if you try the Blenheim the Ironsite has black squares all around it at medium resolution, as do the fuel indicators and the bombsite becomes a blur.

There are some textures that need to be excluded from this scale-ing in the longer term.
(instruments and bomb sites probably primarily).

PC:-
i5 2500k
HD6850
4GB RAM
Win7

Runs much better with new patch.

In the evening I tryed to go fly on-line.

After 4th time Launcher.exe crashed, I went sleep.

It shows me small Windows message that "program Launcher.exe stopped work blah blah blah" ..... and nothing else.
FPS was great and no stuttering.

Just thought i'd better report in that i'm having the same problem as Jarsalla in his second video (twitchy/uncontrollable views) especially in light of the fact that the feedback to this beta patch has been so overwhelmingly positive... and that the game is now literally unplayable for me. :(

It seems even to sometimes change the mouse from panning/zooming/offsetting to controlling roll? (head, not aircraft) My freetrack is disabled...

The patch also seemed to unbind all of my key mapping (as well as resetting a few other settings - though that might have been removing the mods) so i'm not sure if it's some kind of interference between binds but i've looked at everything I can think of and put in all the binds I was using that I could remember.

Magnificent progress guys, hats off to you!

Have finally been able to fly my first multiplayer games with the new Beta and it works great. 100FPS+ over water and 50-70FPS over land.
Much harder to shoot down planes than 1946! The new Damage Hit Point model will be welcome for the score keepers! Side effect of this is that it will finally stop or at least significantly reduce the kill stealing arguments!

All settings on high with Grass, Shadows Roads and unlimited buildings with 8xAA and NOSSAO (AA only seams to work on some Aircraft surfaces and the cockpit view) Cant wait to see what's possible with crossfire/sli!

Feature or instruction request:
1. I find the window interface with Multiplayer while flying a bit clunky compared to 1946. Is there anyway to save window positions and sizes. The Map is always way too small and i would like a default chat box like the old game too so I don't have to keep creating the window.
2. Cockpit zoom - increment and decrement keys would be good and if possible map to axis/slider! The current hold a key and move the mouse option is really clumsy!

Building Texture Bug:
Sometimes the building textures don't seem to load properly and I don't have all buildings, just low res roof texture on the ground. Cant seem to replicate it consistently but It happens when changing building settings I think. Only rectified after restarting game and changing building settings again. Tried cleaning cache and that didnt seem to help either.

Launcher Crash:
When switching enemy or friendly external view more than 2-3 times.

Ilya, I suspect 'Steam' is the culprit in this situation. After I ugraded my system to Windows 7 64bit, I had no end of trouble getting 'Steam' to believe that it was me again. Ten layers of passwords later and numerous automated email messages from Steam (that you can't reply to), 'Miracle' the flight sim (ver.1.00.13954) started to work.

When I downloaded the patch, same situation as 'Deadstick' above? If the real patch doesn't work through Steam you are going to have some 'p....d-off' members.

So, sorry that I can't report how the new patch works on my system? My suggestion is you show 'Steam' this thread and ask them if they are having problems getting the manual patch through there numerous defences for some people?

On the good side of this thread, I have enjoyed reading that the majority of members are seeing good performance gains!

I just realized that flying through a cloud i paused the game and viewed my aircraft from outside. As somebody mentioned (i think) the sun was flashing like on a camera on certain angels.

zwiebacksaege 04-18-2011 07:14 AM

Grass

found out that the problem with the missing grass is caused by a wrong setting in the conf.ini

if you turn on grass in the game menu, the config entry is set to 3 which is of course wrong because it has to be 1.

you can turn on grass by setting it manually to 1 in the conf.ini and the grass will appear in game... but every time you go to the settings menu the wrong entry 3 will be written to the conf again.

so after trying the beta patch now several times:
better fps and fewer stutters!big improvement in that!except when i look at industrial buildings the stutters are very apparent.i think even more than before the patch.and fps drops dramatically too.
although i assume that kekedys mod made more improvement on my rig considering the fps, without loosing eyecandy.
water splashes are back!no fps loss anymore even if you are very close to them.very nice!
explosions when plane crashes into ground looks different now(at least i think)
i think the black smoke is gone during the explosion.i dont know which kind of explosion i prefer.may a combination of both.

i dont like the fact that its now less realistic, considering the negative g behaviour.and also the steady compasses and so on.please give us the realism back.

ai behaves even more strange than before the patch.
beaufighters make rolls like f16s.in fact all ai planes are now capable to do crazy manouvers.
i have now much more game crashes.

Cant seem to replicate it consistently but It happens when changing building settings I think. Only rectified after restarting game and changing building settings again. Tried cleaning cache and that didnt seem to help either.

...

I too have noticed this when selecting higher settings. I assumed that it may have to do with the fact that more than 1GB of VRAM is required to run this with everything on high. The issue dissapears as soon as some settings are lowered, almost as if it physically runs out of available space -?
