If my interest is to get promoted, then, you will most likely find me online all day everyday, hosting Air Superiority Matches (team death match in strike). Understand? Or since I am Wing Commander, I will be able to accept any CTA or any other challenge matches from the attacking team. I can also host CTA or STRIKE (bombing) matches to help out my team. I am using myself as in general, it could be you in this situation

I was thinking, if I could copy those rules (text form) I would be able to put it in some translator (google or..?). So it maybe would be easier to me get the big picture of what's going on. You dont need to go as far as to ask for the day off, The tournament starts on the 18th, but matches can be played throughout the week. I bet the first day will be slow, then as players know that it has started, it will pick up participation (hopefully) :)
