What about those early migs though? their pretty but come on. You would think that modern russian aircraft would be Y-29 and so forth. Maybe I just don't know how to fly em.

The MiG-3 etc were slow and lagged seriously bad. They may have looked fast, but their engines just weren't up to it after bad constructing and other things.

I am a self-admitted Germophile. Better dead than red! Actually, I have been flying around in a La-7 and enjoying its characteristics while testing out some various planes. The turning fight is sooo boring to me and I want to learn how to do some rolls and diving attacks. I tried again last night with the 190 and I can't even do a simple loop before the plane stalls out and starts spinning. Has someone who is familiar with the 190 tried out the flight model in BoP?

Good stuff, Mondo. Thanks a bunch. Are there any videos online that show how to do these roll maneuvers? I see them in books but seeing it on a page and executing are two different things. As far as maintaining energy, I assume you mean climbing whenever you can to gain as much potential energy to save up for another diving attack?

Radials are harder wearing and don't have glycol coolant, they are mostly aircooled so are not prone to radiator damage. Much better for using at sea or in a ground attack aircraft where resiliance is required.



Don't turn at all. Roll, the 190's had the best roll rate of any WW2 plane throughout the speed range. The 190 is all about vector rolls, rolling scissors, negative rolls, yo yo's...just don't make sharp low speed turns. Your probably stalling as your speed isn't high enough or your AoA is too sharp in a climb.

The only time you should turn with a 190 is at high speed, at 400kph+ you can do 45 to 90 degree turns only. Then straighten up.

A dog fight is all about getting the enemy in front of your guns, not turning like a l00n in the grass. The 190 is all about energy, maintaining energy, attacking then extending. Just don't' turn with it because you won't be able to out turn anything in it anyway.

Notice how he rolls and reverses in direction and the Spitfire is helpless trying to match him - resulting in the Spit overshooting.

Are you talking about RADIAL engines, or rotary? The Fdub uses a radial, fixed position motor, not a rotary engine. Rotary engines spin with the propeller, hence the reason they had bad engine torque characteristics.

Excellent post with the video of the FW doing Rolling scissors. I great tactic but remember it's last ditch and a good Spit driver won't overshoot as often.

In the video he started the fight on pretty much equal terms. Not good for going against Spits in a FW. The key to fighting two or at least one spit and it's been mentioned before is coming in with a signifigant altitude advantage and bouncing them. You can force them to go defensive from the get go. In the video they went offensive and quickly turned it into a defensive fight for that pilot. The FW driver was lucky and got off a quick snap shot on one of them but that was about it.

The roll in the FW is far better than a Spit and High Speed. You will have to use rolling and your speed to get away. I have yet to try it out in this game but that's how it works in IL2 1946.
