If as you say you 'have no interst in online' then I would suggest you re-think...I have enjoyed years of playing IL2 1946 playing online...and am now enjoying COD online...All my flying buddies are flying online against other folks and there really is no comparison between online and AI enemy....I'd at least give it a shot.....Try ATAGS.....or REPKA...Its Good fun!

out of the 10 or 11 years i have played il2 i "might" have completed 1 or 2 offline missions. And that was only when i had no internet. For me it was ALL online play.

that's your problem right there...
I hope the devs don't waist precious time and money on single player.

This is 2012 ! why would anybody fly against a mindless AI enemy when the world is connected with high speed internet.
I played IL2 46 for 8years versus the AI and thought I knew how to fly.
Then I tried multiplayer and found out I was wrong!
Real human opponents talking to each on Team Speak and working as a team are so much better than any AI .No matter how well it is programmed.

Don't installed it if you are only gonna play with your self. you are missing the point !

I think you missed the reason I have not played CLoD online.

It is 2012, and the line I highlighted was also the same thing people said 1998 with the release of Rainbow 6. With 56k modems and $600 a month DSL lines.

Online is fine. Like I said earlier, I love playing DCS online, on squad nights, with my group, using TARS.

At the same time, some people like myself, have a full time job, wife, kids, and other things going on in life, and love the thing called a "Pause" button. See, DCS is great online, and also a blast offline.

Talking about AI, IL2 4.11 AI is great. As well as BOBII's AI. DCS's AI is also getting there. Not all AI is bad.

Saying that devs should not waste time on offline, is a dumb statement, sorry. There are plenty of reasons why it should be worked on. Look at how DCG, and other player made campaigns made IL2's online world better. Not only that, but "online interwebz gaming" isnt new and exciting to older folks like myself, who have played online for years and years.

I would like to not have to choose - good online or good offline. Sorry, I want both.

***Thanks for the suggestions to try online. I will give it a whirl when I have some time.***

Now the online evangelists have had their say, here's an opinion from an ex onliner who now prefers offline

CoD has advanced a little since initial release- for offliners the reduction of the 'f16 rolling behaviour' of the AI is one plus point- there has also been some work on understanding of how to apply skill levels by mission builders in missions to get more believable results.
Comms are still very limited

The campaigns that came with CoD were ' somewhat lacking' to put it politely.
There are missions/campaigns being written- not many but there are some good one out there. Airwarfare is the one stop shop for user generated stuff

There is also a rather good commercial campaign available
http://www.desastersoft.com/en/product-wick-dundas.html
demo available;) - if nothing else i'd suggest trying this demo as an example of the way CoD offline play could develop

These are static campaigns
there is at least 1 WIP dynamic campaign engine in progress

Overall CoD maybe behind a full DBW modded install of IL2 in several areas but it does do things tolerably well now (imho). As more is discovered in how to use some of the mission builder features to full advantage (and this took some time in IL2) and the devs finally providing a more functional comms system.....
