I've logged some hours on a friend's PC, we even did a 10-hour VOR to VOR flight from Bahamas to St.Marten in the Aerosoft Catalina over the course of 2-3 evenings (taking turns on the controls and using the mid-flight save feature).
I liked it a lot and it taught me much about CEM.
That being said, i can't compare it with CoD. They are fundamentally different in many of the things they try to do and especially, the amount of budget involved, add-on pricing and availability of 3rd party add-ons (payware and freeware alike). A single aircraft in FSX can be as much as the entire package of CoD and not all payware FSX add-ons are that good to justify the price (although the ones that are good really stand out and give you tons of immersion and satisfaction when you manage to start flying them correctly).
It's just that CoD is still too young and frequent beta patches create a much varied user base in regards to the versions used, that's why every other sim has more avenues to get extra content from and CoD multiplayer has not picked up yet. It was the same with FSX too, it took some time until people moved over from FS9, it's just the natural progression of how things go.
