Hi Pilots! Please add me to sim player list. I still have to learn a lot :) but it's really nice to fight with all of You Aces! I've changed my gampad layout so it'll take time to learn it but freelook is amazing and now I have not such big problems to spot enemy.
|
im an ace on arcade & realistic so its time to move onto sim. its been tough at first but what iv seen so far its better then the the other two modes. so if any one wiv an headset wnts someone to practice wiv just add me
|
The best way to learn is to get stuck in.. its a pretty friendly community, so if you want some help learning anything just ask.
Also, if you're serious about playing sim mode, Edal86 is setting up a "Battle for Europe" tournament, and the more players the better. The thread for it should be on the main page of this forum. |
I have to practice more :) becouse now I'm rather flying pratice target then fighter pilot :) I've played with Edal86 couple days ago and he didn't give me a chance to shot down him - he's simply too good for me like other Aces here. I will practice more and try to play with You guys more, so my skills should go up with time. Thanks for all those good games.

I have signed up 4 the tourny c u there m8.

something weird happend to me i used to be good at sim after patch yesturday i played a game and my skill has fallen to pre patch levels :S
|
If this game worked with my TrackIR system, I might consider simulator mode...
I would have to get a stick for the PS3 though, and I'm not sure which one would be good yet... I have all my flight sim stuff setup for the PC - where it belongs... I hate realistic mode... again no joystick so I'm not sure if I'd stall less with more finite controll over my control surfaces but I still hate Realistic mode for it's stall-recovery BS... not realistic, just goofy, IMO. |
If you guys are already flying in Simulation mode, then check the "Battle for Europe Tournament Thread" it is a good opportunity for all PS3 SIM players to have a little more organized fun. Beginners are welcome too. Participation is valued more than skill. Have you heard of "they've got the guns but we've got the numbers"? hehe
|
Absolutely, "TrackIR" is the icing on the cake! :)
|
Please add me to your list. I fly mostly in Arcade mode, but try their hand at Real and Sim. Most prefer bombing mission, but with pleasure and will take part in others.

Add me

Hello you all,
i'm not very often on this forum (as in IL2 Bop :( ), i don't have enough time, except on week-ends, but yet, during the last three months i've seen (fight !) many of you on IL2 BoP online on PS3, you're all really good! I generally fly MK IX/XVI or Yak 3, sometimes P51D, Bf 109 G2 or FW 190 D9, and of course only in SIM mode Always a pleasure to meet online, whatever the plane and the place ! Hi Fellow PS3'ers,
I'm new to this site, and the game however after playing sim mode for the first time last night I'm hooked. Sim is where it's at!!! In the market for a stick controller so until then I will gladly join with a mere controller so for anyone interested, particularly within Australia, add D3me3ntia. I usually get game time each day however typically during the AM hours of the morning because I work nights. Either way if I'm signed in I'm keen. Cheers. |

Stick your controller on aviator layout - better free look :) |
Yeah lol. Got the hang of flying fine. Just need to hone them targeting skills :)

Hey Stapler - and wellcome.
We're a bunch of guys that play sim regurarly. Mostly Strike and CTA, but now and then a teambattle and dogfight. I host quite a few of these due to my relatively ok connection, and you are of course wellcome to join. We play for fun, and skills is not the main issue for us. It's all about having a good laugh, play and have a good time with the lads. Attitude is the key to have a good time. The skills come as we play. That said... When the "bell rings" we fly to kill! Headsets/mic is "mandatory" to get the best out of it. To start in strike-missions is a nice way to pick up the skills and a few tricks. At leat we think so... We play allmost each night 09'ish to 12'ish GMT. Weekends a bit into the morning. |
Just checking in to see who regulary plays on ps3 sim mainly or realistic. Add me if I'm not already on your friends list. I haven't played in a while and would like to fly soon.

Yo. I just wanted to lift this thread as the sim-players once again are roaming the skies of BoP. The "Ace of aces tournament" that MACADEMIC and Edal took the initiative to and are organizing really have revitalised the game for us!
So don't be a stranger mate. It's a lot of skilled players on these days. Both for training, fun and (of course) the tournament. The guys that participates in the tournament are most often to be seen in P51B and D's, but it is up to you what bird you want to kill from. No limitations (apart from what your own hangar is equiped with) whatsoever. |
I`m always keen for a sim match. Add me if anyone wishes to.

Sim...first game...first thoughts....
Being Sim players ....i guess you guys are pretty well used to the very different feel this mode has from Arcade and Realistic....I got an invite from WalterNovotny last night...First Sim game....here is my first impression and in game(in head) commentry....goes like this.........
[Game Start] Hmmm this is different.....where are they all ?:!: [Waggle wings, Aviator layout look around] Are they over there ? .Nope. Are they over here ? .Nope. BOOOOM ! He got me ! where did he come from ! [Restart] Ok i say....relax, move around , look the part at least , ..Ah just saw a spec move down there ! .....off i rush.....where did he go ? BOOOOM ! He got me again ! [Restart] Now...get down lower i say....i may spot them better...ah i saw one over there.....over i roll , down i go.....sky...sky...more sky.....oh you fool, your upside down.... guess what.....yeah...BOOOOM  He got me ! [Restart] Get down lower...thats the trick.....see them now ...one spec...one shape...ah thats an aeroplane i say...follow him...get behind....get behind....BANG crashed into big tree ! [Restart] Getting into this now....roll wings low....Aviator look around....get down lower....FLASH...one fly's right in front of me....oh you clot...did not think to pull the trigger !......hear engine behind me....oh no not again...BOOOOM  He got me ! [Restart] last chance now....you can do it....Head turning all over the place...even looking behind me over the back of the settee to see if they are coming from over there....... GAME OVER ..... [Pause for thought ] Hmmmm........... [Pause for thought ] Bugger there good at this....... [What do i do now ? ] Turn off PlayStation...Go to fridge....get bottle of beer....Sit in the dark for 5 mins....wife say's " good game Darling ? ".....oh i say..." Spring Chicken to ShiteHawk in 10 minutes "...what...? she says...!oh never mind..lets go to bed....(safer there ! ) To "The Few" that play this mode...I raise my glass to you...... |
A feeling of Deja vu reading your post Wildboar
Well, one day we'll show 'em... |
yep thats the way it basically is. BUT you will get better at spotting the E/As. use your map feature ALOT to give you the general direction and then scan up and down. the good part is in sim you can actually lose an attacker! you wont have that red "He's over here now!!" arrow to put them back on your six. also you willl find some of the crappier flying ac you can handle better in there. sim is more frustrating and takes more of a learning curve than probably any other mode in this game. just like when you first started out...you will crash and burn more than you will even see an enemy. stick with it....for me...the high degree of difficulty brought a high degree of satisfaction once i started to get the hang of it.
if you dont like it...that is perfectly fine. but give it a try. some things in life are an acquired taste that takes. what is the absolute best difficulty to play on?? thats simple....its the one that brings YOU the most enjoyment! |
You forgot about constant death spins wildboar! Unless you did'nt spin on your first sim game, which would be an acheivement worthy of a medal!
Best tip for spotting aircraft is to always confirm your sightings using the map. Chasing a speck of dust on my tv screen happens a lot to me! And remember: COMBAT FLAPS! |
I allmost wet myself WildBoar. Brought back some memories...
Listen to the guys ahead of me here and you'll be just fine. A cpl of hours of pure humiliation, and you'll be able to kick back a few. Log a hundred missions, and you'll remember the combat-flaps too... And most important as bobby points out, sim's the only mode you actually can loose the guy on your six. And live to kill him. That's what makes it all worth wile some times... You kind of made my day there bro :-) |
i play with avatar and have been playing sim for about six months avatar is great for looking around what i do is soon as game starts trim your plane put up map look for red dots see them take of map and use your right thumb stick to look in direction of the dots you will see them then happy hunting bang your a new ace buddy:-P:-P
|
Hey Wildboar,
Excellent description, brings back some memories here too! Couldn't believe how anyone saw anything when I started to play in the mode, and yes it can be frustrating. I guess for some new to this mode it stops right there, getting hammered all the time. Here's a few ideas how to pull through: - play simulator in training mode, the AI aren't as cruel as RL players and you can practice spotting a lot - have your HUD turned on fully - this will give you a dark spot on the screen when the enemy is far away from you - check your map and scan accordingly - when scanning, develop a relaxed gaze into a sector of the sky/landscape, don't focus on anything particular, that way you will detect movement much faster - give each sector you're scanning a couple of seconds, then go on - and probably best, practice sim with friends or experienced people who are willing to give you an easy entrance - look for people who have the compass banner in their signatures, like me Good luck with your next steps! MAC |
when we say scan the map...for me i am CONSTANTLY (every few seconds ) slapping that button. seeing where the bandits are and going from there. DONT sluff off ( a red dot ) or let any one spawn behind you if you can help it. the 10 red spots in front of you are less of a threat than the one "harmless" one behind you. i am not one of the top top notch players...i have been playing this almost a year and still am learning....thank God the bullets arent real or my momma would be shedding a lot of tears and i would be staring at the roots of daises.....
if you can hook up with a buddy who will let you fly around and get your sim legs so to speak ( play follow the leader to see if you can keep them in visual...get a shot on them etc.) that would be great. anyone on xbox i am willing to share what little i know. |
you have me laughing so hard i am crying
Thanks for joining in, great as usual to fly with you WildBoar. Sim is loads of fun, does take some getting used to. Don't feel bad in any way about being shot down. One of the players in that particular round was Mirgervin "the best flier there is". I am certain he got us all several times. Next time when you play and respawn try flying away from the action instead of jumping right in to the fray. Regroup and use your map fly towards the red dots. Usually they are low and you can pick one up or at least see one. Close on that target if you get the shot take it if not use your speed to escape and repeat the process. I use this tactic with some success flying f-190's as trying to turn with spits in it has bad results. Consider using the la-5 as a starter plane in Sim, it has very forgiving controls at full sensitivity. See you in the skies soon.

Even thought about flyin permanently upside down for a better view "down there" lol... The real funny thing was.....checked the score board last night on Sim dogfight.....says I had one Kill in that first game...!!! Who was that ? Now...As for you Mr WalterNovotny ....Next time a Texan invites me out on a date....at least I know we aint going to no Prom !!! .. Moep moep moep
Hello all u killers.
I sign in for simu players now. i guess i`m in the right condition to do that. My actual psn name is Walter Krupinski and i was flying with Dementia no more cause of it was my training account. lets lose some words for the beginners... when i go sim first i had a dogfight with gordenembru (now he is still off i guess). i looked the nice landscape and make my first move on the stick in simu. instantly i crashed without anny chance to engage anyone. so he was loughing at me and said what a bad shit i was flying. try again. he gived me the main infos about the rudder sets. i was flying maxed because of arcade. look it works i´m not falling like a stone ^^ so i was starting to change every sets in every way till i got the control for a rookie. so i control my bfg10 (favorite that time) jea! but spotting an enemie or shoting one down was uncovered. so he shoot me down easiely. he gaved me the second advice. try aviator settings for ur controller. ok i tried out and had to learn everything new about controlling the plane. but that was the springing point to me. after weeks of loosing against him i got the sight control fully in my pocket and i had quite a vew victorys. so next problem was to max out aiming performences. hard work to do but somehow after weeks again it was on my skills too. then gordenembru was telling me about buing himself an g2 scale rc modell wit fuelengine and the next week i never saw my master again :( HEUL SCHLUCHTS ICH VERMISSE IHN IRGENDWIE he was flewing g2 or f4 like noone else this time. i was expirienced enough to go on on sim alone with the other sharks in the sky. hm... the g10 wasnt what she did in real. i turned to la 7, bf109f4 and later yak3 and got still some nice combats... cause of the better dogfighting turning rate... in time i read anything i could find of aviation especally the luftwaffe and i was concerned about the overrated spits that allways take me out. that was the next challennge to me and now i got the most spitfire pilots in my pocket. NOT ALL! but the spit tells me her secrets and i juse to make it weak. allthough if i would like to fly a spit i crash because its the dumpest airplane in the wourld and its uglier than the teletubbies and again practice practice practice and again shot downs by spits and mostly russian planes till i was an called an ace by other aces  its just the love to fly and have all forces under control the trick is weeks of practice again online and offline. then u will find out any secrets of the game. the cpu aiming reargunnery that allways kicks u when u are at 0.60km range. the weks of the undefeatable il10. fly under it and distroy the motor from below. try to underfly the reargunner even in loops. its heavy to do. find out that yak is better than la. getting an ace is a revealfull term. winners make history so the russian proggers overrated everything one fact is that fokker d9 was a better dogfighter than spitfire in reality°° but in this game it wouldnt harm a zeppelin moep moep moep simulator is the best part of the game! its hard to kill and to learn about ******* hardcore killing mens in thier iron hawkmashins... and at least. its a perverse game. u kill peaple ^^ rofl |
Gooffy question i Know........
Just some advise playing Sim Team Dogfight Guy's.................
When at a distance, like beginning a game, do enemy aircraft show as the dark "dots" far off and my other team players show as almost invisble specs ? I have a problem homing in on the right Aircraft to aim at....now i am reluctant to shoot until i can see the flashes on the wings and by then.... " where they gone again ? " Nothing like the First Kill in Sim Team dogfight....to enter the Sim arena and stand in pride you helped the Team to victory..... that roll as you turn down , peel off and try that head on pass...... short burst of the cannons Bbbbrrrrppp up he goes in flames..... Yes...!!!! Then It sinks in....that was Olife- coming the other way....Oooops I was in his team......Oh the shame of it  " Je dois apprendre à voir avant de me tirer dessus!" ( I must learn to look before I shoot ! ) |
"When at a distance, like beginning a game, do enemy aircraft show as the dark "dots" far off and my other team players show as almost invisble specs ?"
does for me on xbox. they will appear then dissapear as you get closer. you need to use your map feature A LOT in sim. the dots will give you a general direction but wont be dead on...at least that is my exp. "I have a problem homing in on the right Aircraft to aim at....now i am reluctant to shoot until i can see the flashes on the wings and by then.... " where they gone again ? " that's sim. in real life there were a lot of ac shot down by friendlies. use you map feature...if the dot infront is red shoot, if green announce to you team so you dont get shot.....it gets tough if you see one red and one green close together. then you have to find out if your team mate is the prey or the preditor. it take a time to get the eye for it. being able to work you POV to keep an eye on the EA and getting a feel for what they are going to do next. |
In the 'enemy and friend nearby' situation, its a good idea to point directly at the red dot on the map while viewing the map. That way the enemy should(!) be right in front of you. Once you have visual, dont go into the map again to double check. Most times you'll end up losing the target or worse, going after your comrades!
Plus, make a mental note of who is flying what at the lobby, it helps identify friendlies when you get close in. That way, if you have some aircraft recognition skills, you can tell who's who at a glance, a very important thing when you've got a couple of seconds to decide to fire, or find the REAL enemy. |
I think that seeing the color of the wings of the team you belong to can realize
and differences that team does not belong? sorry but I have little in SIM mode and would be happy to receive advice of any kind in addition to practice as well you say a greeting |
moin moin
back again. ^^ |
Thanks for the advice Guy's.....getting the hang of it..... can spot them earlier now.....but up close.....Im still Toast ...or is Roast..... WildBoar !!:)
|
Up close it's all about the elevatorsettings and the BFM for me. I mostly fly full wep. Speed is a key.
Check this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_fighter_maneuvers When not the usual situation is on that is... |
Some advice Guy's............
Was messing out with JOED70 tonight working out why Lypme Airfield in CTA Sim mode has a secret Spitfire "trip wire" located across the 1900 yrd runway !!! . JOE did finally manage to land with success but not without noticing that after passing a point between the two pillbox's, JOE''s Spitfire cast a black shadow after rolling over a line visible from the air between them, then without warning the prop would sieze and ac crash. !! Anyway....the question....In Sim using a spit....PS3 pad set to Aviator setting (Layout 3)..... how do you set the "trim"....normal layout is the X button, I find that my Spit will natually climb if trim not set. When landing just as I have her on the deck .....if i concentrate on slowing down she will rise of the deck again ! ......have i missed the obvious ?:( WildBoar. |
Quote:
no probs u are a very good pilot and wingman!! |
Can set "trim"......
When playing strike.....with PS3 pad set to Aviator setting option 3 .......I cant set the trim to get her to fly level....so when aiming for a bomb run the nose constantly comes up putting my aim off....
Any suggestions how I can "trim" on this set up....? Mainly use bomb laded fighters.... Thanks Guy's |
Hey guys I was wondering if you guys had any pointers to make tracking easier during blackout?

I can set the trim in Wireless Controller with X....flick over to Aviator Layout 3 and it's now set.....Until I crash / shotdown and I have to set it up over again....by this time Very annoying .......any other idea's ? |
My approach
I get a lot of altitude, reduce speed, dive, drop the gear, hone in on the target, drop the bomb, gear up out of dive and repeat. In sim unless the bombs are huge it takes a bit of practice. I prefer the fighters (190f) or stuka. If you perfect defending youself while flying a bomb ladden fighter in sim mode let me know. I'm pretty sure every plane I choose pulls a target banner.

Hmmmm .......yeh...second thought's Bud.....why am I concerned about "trim"........Meeh.....I forgot...I have never got to the Target without being bulldozed out of the sky...and If i did...I have failed to spot them .!!! LOL....:-P Good Point ! oh the Joy of Sim.... |
