What makes this game, is the fact that most of the people playing on here have a common love for WWII aircraft and history, regardless of nationality.

It's quite funny really, you've got all the nationallities who were involved in WWII all now flying against each other and the reason is fun!

Yes, no problem. You guys can play whenever you like. Only officers are expected to be online frequently (at least 3 times a week). So you guys can log in once a month if you like you just wont be able to rank up as fast or hold important ranks.

About assigning people to teams, edal... would it not be more fair to have a draft for the unassigned players? Assuming you're gonna be on a team.

Also, I have found the Russian 1C BOP forum, which explains why they don't visit this one. I posted a link to this thread there and an explanation of what it's about, hopefully some of them will show up. What would team USSR be without any Russians on it...

a protect the vip sort of game
1 team has a bomber carrying a high rinking general or political leader and the other team have to shoot it down before it reaches its destination.
the team with the vip could have other bombers as decoys as you cant see names in sim mode but then to many and the bombers going to be easy meat so stratergy is key

Yes this sounds like a good idea I will see what I can do. However, I was not going to allow both teams to fly bombers on strike, only the invading team will be able to use bombers and the defenders will fly fighters only.

I mention this cause I've got my own intel on who's good at what... and who's invincible at what, also...

Each side would select 1 or 2 players who have played many games in every mode vs most of the players. They would be given 1 or 2 days to "scout" or observe anyone they haven't seen.

Then all the recruiters would log in to a PSN chat room for the draft. If one team starts shorthanded, it gets extra picks at the midway point. For example, if team 1 has 10 players, and team 2 has 8, and there's 20 other players, then after 9 players have been selected, team 2 takes its next pick and then follows with its extras, then it's team 1's turn again. Like this:

On a different note, edal, I was looking at the list and it appears that you didn't include the jet fighters - are you excluding them? I'm really beginning to develop a liking for them -- to me they should be included. Not many people like the jet fighters b/c they turn so horribly and are so easily damaged, so the few people who fly them (or one - me) would seem to reflect their relative importance in WWII - being introduced in 1944 but not in enough numbers to make a difference by that late stage...

I am not concerned about that. There are many ways that we can work around that. Games will only be played as Strike or Capture the Airfield for the simple reason of having teams started at their designated side of the map.

there are only 3 who said USSR, so far... which is pretty strange considering how the la5 is becoming the plane of choice vs the spitfire

I asked earlier, but I think my question got a bit lost in the shuffle: are *all* the planes in each region/country going to be available after they're 'conquered?' The reason I'm asking is I'm pretty hyped about the German jet fighters now, so if/when we capture Germany I can fly one.

Yes, I did that... that's why I asked the question --- I wanted clarification on the omission of the jet fighters.

By 'tactical Kamikaze,' I'm assuming you're saying that the team who is flying the jet fighters would have some sort of overwhelming advantage over bombers... I'm not sure if that's your meaning, or if that would even be the case. Jet fighters certainly have speed, but bomber escorts could certainly develop tactics to combat them I would think... plus, if the jet fighters do have an advantage, this only offsets the advantage that the B-17 brings to the table... although I guess this may be moot if both sides can use the B-17 equally from the start of the game.

I do hope you come up with a way to include the jet fighters in your campaign; with all the T&B, dogfighting in BOP is soooo one-dimensional, and IMHO the option to include more B&Z plane choices is a sorely needed aspect to this simulator, which accurately reflect the real-life awareness and adjustment to the tactics of energy fighting & situational awareness (something somehwhat missing in the endless descending spiral dogfights that dominate BOP).

Most likely I will add Jets but they will be used by privileged Officers only and with severe consequences for intentional ramming. Also, Jets will only be available to the team that controls the German Territory.

Awesome! I agree - ramming bombers should be prohibited from any plane... to be honest I wouldn't expect anyone participating in your tourney to stoop to such cheap tactics.

In strike mode, you get more points for crashing into the target with full ordnance than for dropping the bombs on it. That shouldn't be allowed.

Using bombs in airfield capture kind of ruins it too. You wouldn't bomb an airfield if you intend to use it yourself. It's more like airfield demolition.

* You could always repair it :) just kidding, I know what you mean but I allow planes to use bombs for capture the airfield besides they only get 1 chance per death to hit their target and if they reach a certain amount of deaths they will be punished.

* I didnt like that about strike mode, though. I will find a way to make sure that bombers dont do this. I hope that I can trust all players to fly with honor.

I finally figured it out when I noticed the opponent taking extra points with an equal plane (he111), I saw the tickets drop 4 times and then suddenly a bigger 5th drop, so after dropping all 4 bomb pairs for 3 to 4 points each, I crashed into a bunker to see what would happen, sure enough, 5 points

I don't mean kamikaze's on CTA, that should be banned from BOP entirely. Just that if you drop bombs on a runway at all, there's no point anymore trying to capture it, cause it will be unusable for the next couple days. Can't land on craters.

anyhow, I think 24th or 26th late afternoon/evening would work, it shouldn't take long... a "last call" post would be appropriate also, I think a lot of VAS figured they'd be on the UK or on your team, based on their votes, so it would give them a chance to declare first.

Update, Squadrons
 

As soon as your teams are determined please select 3 other team members to be part of your flight group, name your own squadron, and if able please design a signature for it and send this information to me via Private message through this same forum.

This way I will control and edit your signatures so you can know your squadron's stats (dont worry, signatures created by me will be small). Squadrons must have at least 2 beginners or not too experienced players and 2 that are good or experienced players, this way you can all help each other.

Lone wolves will not have a signature edited by me, so they will have to check their rank and status on the first page, also they will not rank up as fast as those that are part of a squadron. Dont see this as a set back please, it is meant to help all players become better.

Since VAS squadron wont be able to work as a team against the rest, I recommend that you look for a 4 member squadron. It does not mean that you have to drop off of VAS, this smaller squadron is just for the duration of this tournament.

Look for members that you are used to play along with, first. Remember to do this after the teams are selected.

Yes, they are instructions for everyone starting on Dec.25 or Dec.26, after I post the teams. Again, it is not necessary for you guys to be part of a squadron but I highly recommend it; it will help beginners progress and it will help veterans rank up easier. It will also make my life easier by editing your ranks and stats on your signatures. Please help me by teaming up.

* I will also post the tournament's rules and full description soon. I really hope you like it, I took some of the feedback posted here to include jets, the I-153 and plane model limitations. I found a way to do this last one by setting this battle beginning on Winter 1945. It will have a timeline, however the timeline will only influence the seasons which determine the settings for the weather (1 week = 1 season, ex. winter) I wonder how many years this virtual war will take :). Well thats about all the info I will give you guys today :)

Again, wait until I post the teams to create your squadrons because you might not end up in the same team as the players you select now. I will respect Penor flight and Rogue Squadron because they were created before my rules.

Stinger, I'd love to form up with you if it's cool with you. I played against you the other day, and I have to say, I think our styles will compliment each other greatly. I too enjoy B&Z tactics, plus I have a willingness to mix it up T&B style also. Most important, I aspire to fight smart, and I think you do too. Let me know... we'll still need 2 more for a full squadron, but if we don't find them at least we can be wingmen...

By the way, I consider myself a beginner - close - to - mid-level pilot. I'd love to get at least one ace level player on the squad so I can learn alot...

I noted your bnz skills the other day... I expect team USSR will need at least a couple good bnz'ers who can move fast around the map, inflict damage quickly and stay alive. Especially against bombers and landing planes. It's a draft though, so anything can happen.

Anyone who wants to fly the good Soviet & German planes plz send me a PM detailing any of the following that apply to you:

) fighter style: bnz or tnb; if tnb, do you use aggressive angles tactics for maximum kills, or energy tactics for miminal deaths
) favorite mode
) is your aim good in dogfights
) can you hit targets in Strike (without kamikaze cheating)
) how many Bombers can you destroy in training without being shot down
) what non-UK planes can you land on a short runway; land reliably at Gumrak; land at 90 degrees from the runway; land while in gunner view
) Are you good at hitting targets in gunner view (perfect defense trophy a plus)
) Are you good at spotting opponents
) what is your usual maneuver after the first pass in a dogfight against a spit or hurricane (eg, vertical turn, nose-to-nose, nose-to-tail, oblique turn, high climb, dive, etc)
) do you enjoy beating up on p-51's
) have you unlocked the b17, and any other unusual unlocks like il-4/109g10

& anything else you think is relevant.

Yes but all Soviet soldier captured by Nemyetski are considered Fascist spy, unless they survive war and are exonerated after some years. They are assumed to be made to talk. So go ahead, shoot dog. Though I don't know what you expect dog to say. You are crazy to try to interrogate dog.

a couple last minute suggestions:

1) either the first match should be a lag test to identify lag-free hosts, or each match should be preceded by a 3-minute lag-test dogfight

2) there could be some kind of system for the teams to recruit after the start, such as a maximum 2 new players allowed per week, as soon as 2 new players join then one goes to each team by draft. Draft choice would go by simple alternation.
