yeah....anyway, they did dump COD and opted for making a fast buck, and Maddox games is history now taking with it the true heritage for the IL2 franchise.
777 were celebrated for taking over a buggy 2009 release game and turning it around, after grafting on a new GUI and content from the cancelled BoM it will be sold back to us in 2014 as a shiny new WWII title and over the following years if we are good and they meet 1C deadlines we might see some attempts at modernising it, but we will have to buy enough payware addons to make that a reality, here is the irony, apparently CoD was too expensive and ambitious, but everyone is now queing up to fork out cash over X amount of years to see a 2009 game slowly transform to a lesser level CoD ever offered us, the same cash that would have benefited CoD and its sequels if we had the same patience.

Verhängnis 12-17-2012 09:32 AM

But that is not the 1C business model, so how on Earth did you expect them to make any money to create the sequels? This ^ is why they moved on!

And please don't tell me that spending $100 on CoD is better than the amount of content I could have gotten in RoF. I'm sorry, but imo, payware is a far more reasonable way to spend my money than on something that doesn't work and never would work (due to the financial encumbrance that the 1C model causes).

My money, is wasted!

taildraggernut 12-17-2012 09:37 AM

if that helps make you feel better about it....

FS~Phat 12-17-2012 09:45 AM

Hey Guys,

Please stop the 777 bashing!
You may not feel fortunate that someone has decided to take on the future development of the IL2 series but you would probably be in the minority.

In any case I fail to see why you cannot see what is plainly clear to me.

That is... the CLOD engine as a development platform was not a sustainable commercial model for the future of the series no matter how wonderful it might of looked on the surface even with the last patch.

There were clearly many issues with the bug ridden code that was difficult to modify and correct. Luthier even said as much himself regarding the complexity of the code. It was overly complex and expensive in terms of time to develop, which means the commercials dont stack up no matter how devoted programmers or the community may be.

It's not an ideal outcome but it's better than the only other viable alternative which was to completely abandon the IL2 franchise all together.

Now IL2 has a new platform and partnership to benefit from, which includes serveral years of success with the 777 graphics engine and commercial model. (which is constantly being improved and remarkably bug free)
Some of us might not like it but, it-is-what-it-is and we are lucky at this point to be getting anything.

No amount of whining, complaining and making threats will change the course of the IL2 series. You can either get behind the new opportunity and constructively provide input through the new forum or find yourself something else to do. The kind of negativity and abuse thats been endured here will not be tolerated in relation to the new direction of the series, either on these forums or on the new forum. If you dont like that then Im sorry but thats the way it has to be.

Taildraggernut, why would I have a problem with 777 developing it? But, you're just another whiner, there's always one. ;)
What's the problem? 1C couldn't deliver, simple fact really, and in the world of business - it's funny, because they know it too. Now stop trolling and look forward to BoS. :)

With the kind of attitude of " wich is already dated and can't do half the stuf CLOD engine can." the release will go exactly down the path of Cliffs of Dover (Not to mention that Direct X is a multimedia API, not the be all and end all of possibilities) , trying to please everybody when the result is nobody is pleased. Get a gosh darn reality check! "Half the things that can be done in the CoD engine", either were NOT done, or were NEVER going to be afforded!
Is it that hard to understand for some people?

Apart from that, the two studios still exist individually but there has been a partnership for the NEW product (different engine, therefore not compatible with CoD, although technologies may be ported over and used IF and WHERE possible) IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle Of Stalingrad. It's expected to be sold by 777 and according to their financial system.

Well said.

If people want to have debates about the decision to shut down CLoD or the bad things about Rise of flight/777 - kick them out of the forum! Let them go somewhere like SIMHQ where they can abuse each other all they want.

Let us get back to talking about the game!

taildraggernut 12-17-2012 11:10 AM

yeah, riddiculous idea talking about CoD on the CoD forum.

FS~Phat 12-17-2012 11:21 AM

Talking about CLOD is NOT the issue.

The crap that people try to pass off as fact here without actually having any real clue is frankly astonishing. There is absolutely no reason for people to put down the 777 engine or commercial model when in every way it has clearly been the more successful venture and will be a great new technology and partnership with 1C and 777 for the new IL2 series.

What Im saying is... that if people want to sprout bullshit and crap on about things they clearly dont have an understanding of, or are clearly just trying to create conflict, whether discussing CLOD or ROF or BoM or BoS or 1C or 777..... You will be moderated according to the rules.

FIRST OF ALL i´m not bashing ROF nor 777, i have ROF , i paid for it and it was a great deal. I´m starting to like the game.

No, the developer was maddox games, and they did deliver, in a chaotic way, but they did, and it was getting better end better. But it was taking too much time to make something really spectacular. So 1C as publisher decided to cut it off and go for the quik buck with an average product. According to guys from 777 they are aiming for something that "works" out of the box admittely dropping the great features we already had. And of cuorse a lot of the work is already done in terms of 3d design by the guys from Maddox, so they are basically taking almost 2 years to port those models to ROF engine an improving it to be able to handle the heavy ground action in Stalingrad.

So what would have happened if Ilya came and say that even with a 75% done they were going to take another 2 years to deliver a polished battle of Stalingrad? more chaos, meanwhile 1C will see how the competition (777) was making money all that time. So what they do? merge with them so they are now controlling the whole market of prop driven combat flight simulators. Do you know who loses and who wins with this almost monopolic context? It should be obvious but i will say it just in case: WE ALL LOSE, THE CORPORATIONS WIN.

It doesnt matter if you only fly ROF without competition customers lose, now they only have to make something that is just right, no need to chase perfection, no need to take the risk of going beyond expectations, no more romanticism, no more passion, just numbers.

This is how I feel about this, but i totally understand 777 aproach and wish them total succes.
