Are you in the cockpit *or a track
(required) when the tilde key does not work?

Sounds like the control is missing though.

I tried it in the cockpit, yes, and also while "watching" the black death track to get a benchmarklike result. Never got the console open. Maybe I unintendently deleted the assignment for "open console"? Is this possible?

BTW: I also customized the Info-windows in my views, maybe I customized the console away?

EDIT: forgot to mention that I use a Swiss (German) keyboard layout. Maybe this corrupts the key assignement?

S!

Querer, just go to Options -> Controls and assign key combo to Console. Then apply and save as the game does not recognize them if you do not save and apply. I put the console to the old IL-2 keys: shift + tab and works.

Mine is 'Alt C', not sure if this was the default or if I set it myself.

Well, thanks for all the help guys. I am soon going to put some values of FPS up here, if I have time. For the moment I can say, the new 304.48 drivers almost completely removed stuttering for me, even the black death track seems fluid now, still some FPS drops visible though. But I am happy with the performance on my rig (i5 3570K@4.0GHz, 8GB RAM, GTX670 OC) for now. Still looking forward to the next official (non beta...) Patch increasing the performance even further

EDIT: it was indeed the case that there was no key assignment to open the console. Now I managed to get the FPS shown on screen. Black Death track I got now MIN: 0 (don't ask me why, probably the first two seconds after loading), AVG: 55, MAX: 172. Looks like I can live with that.

EDIT2: I still get massive framedrops when something is exploding. Which setting has the biggest impact on this fact? I could easily live with less eye candy on this side, but the framedrop down to 15-20FPS in the black death track when the bombs on the runway explode is ridiculous...

The ‘Visual Effects’ setting controls the detail of the explosions, and (in previous versions) reducing this results in a fair gain in frame rates. I haven’t tested the difference since the graphics engine re-write, but think that the gain now should reasonably be less. What you are seeing is not abnormal though.

Maybe I should first install the beta patches then? Still have the official patch from steam, not any additional patch installed so far...

TonyD 07-03-2012 03:29 PM

The previous beta patch introduced a new graphics engine (code) that was intended to massively improve performance, but introduced a lot of new issues as well the absence of some graphic effects that were DirectX 9 based. The latest beta patch improved some things further, but again introduced some new issues that weren’t apparent in the previous version. A bit difficult to give some relevant advice here, but I would say from what you have posted that your performance is currently very good, and you most likely will not experience a significant improvement with these patches (someone with specs similar to yours could offer a better opinion, maybe).

If you do try them you can always revert to your current (official) version by verifying the game files in Steam. It is advisable to delete the game cache files when updating (and reverting) like this to avoid possible graphic anomilies (..\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-s sturmovik cliffs of dover\cache). The game will rebuild these when run again.
