My conf.ini looks like:

[HotKey Console]
Shift Tab=Activate
[Console]
HISTORY=1024
HISTORYCMD=1024
LOAD=
SAVE=
LOG=1
LOGTIME=0
LOGFILE=logfile.log
LOGKEEP=1

I have now launched the game 3 times but no logfile is appearing....gah!!!!!!

Have you tried running any other games besides IL-2? Do they exhibit any of the same behaviors? Are all of your system drivers up to date, especially your video card drivers?

One thing to be sure of, when you uninstall the game to "clean it out" and start over fresh, make sure you delete the residual old directory before reinstalling. Also! Be sure NOT to install to C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86), if running Vista or Win7! Most older games have real problems when installed there due to UAC issues.

Puma,
Here's a hint.
if you installed 4.11 and want to run one of the mod packs, it is best to put the 4.10.1 SFS file back in before launching. Also, there is the issue of the .last.quick file. Make sure you delete it before/after using mod packs (it's a hidden file BTW)
Hope this helps

Ignore that its the wrong log file someones told you to activate.

The hserror.pid is an automatically generated one.

That one above is the IL2 1946 mission generated log file used for parsing in game live data and mission events..

Okay chaps....I just don't know what the problem is :(

I did the above, installed a Vanilla 1946. Ran the game and it got to the menu...5-seconds later CTD.

Tried this next:

Copied the contents of my fully working HSFX 5.01 install into a new directory. Ran JGSME and downscaled the game to stock 4.101.

Installed 4.11 patch.

Game gets to menu then CTD :(

Dunno what the problem is, but looks like I'm just going to be flying HSFX 5.01 and not see the beauty of 4.11

Thanks for the input though, cheers, MP

Errr, just had another random thought. You ARE installing the hotfix as well, right?

After installing 4.11 I tried running it and it reached the point where it switches from the loading screen to the menu screen and then CTD. I installed the 4.11 Hotfix and it gets to the menus screen before CTD after about 6-seconds of the Menu screen displaying :(

Seriously, I don't get it :(

HSFX 5.01 rock solid stable, 4.11 with hotfix, CTD after 6-seconds ....... I want to see the new beauty of 4.11 :(

Have you tried disabling your antivirus temporarily? Avast antivirus caused me a similar problem - 4.11 would get to the menu screen then ctd after a few seconds. I had to add an exception in Avast so that it ignores the il2 folder.

OK

Well I keep banging on about it but if there no error log then IL2 isn't crashing something else is closing it.

possibly

:)

here's an example
