This one World of Planes comes from the Gaijin which has done IL-2: Birds/Wings of Prey. So no combined arms merging opportunities available there. |
yeh i've just had another look.
As far as i know it was/will be free to play used to say it on the old website and a quick google search says it was advertised as being free to play - now after looking through the new website there's no mention of it being F2P anymore but that doesn't mean it won't be as a few areas don't seem to be completed yet. might pop the question on their forums. edit : looks like it is still F2P no specifics though i'm assuming WOT style F2P linky - http://forum.gaijinent.com/index.php...-restrictions/ |
Nevertheless, we ww2 era warbirds online simmers and buffs are in treat in the future having so many new sims enter to the market.

I'm glad they changed he name up a bit. It was so confusing having World of Planes AND a World of Warplanes.
This actually looks pretty cool to me if they can do a few things: 1) Larger maps than WoP. It would be a shame to have these air, land, sea battles going on on very small maps. 2) More people online per server. If they want giant land, air, and sea battles we will need more than 24 people online per server. 3) A flight model/damage model at least equal to IL2 '46. I'm sure this will never be as hardcore as CloD, but at least give us some "hardcore/full real" servers at least equal to old IL2 series. 4) remove the darkened edges of the screen. Yes the green filter is gone but those dark edges bother me almost just as much. Maybe only have them when you are getting fired on? Sort of like to simulate being supressed? And then they can introduce a rpg element and make you less supressed to things the higher rank you are with more experience. But game looks great! Graphics are awesome, it will run good on most systems as WoP has proven, and the plane list looks pretty sweet. I hope the B17 and the Catalina are flyable I love flying the not so popular planes. |
The vignetting (dark corners) can be disabled via graphics options.

So how much realism can we expect from this? Something like IL2 1946 (full switch/full real), or can you upgrade your plane with all sorts of ridiculous boosters and other advantages?
It looks pretty good, and if the FMs are alright I'll add it to the collection fore sure. |

Actually they plan on doing combined elements in the future. The second post in this thread quoted Gaijin as saying such. I believe its in the FAQs somewhere on the forums and whatnot over at Gaijin. Not trying to be rude, just letting you know. |

I thank you Sir for these news! :) |
I absolutely have no idea how Gaijin will handle their F2P model - they've been awfully quiet about it. I suspect they are still figuring it out as it's pretty tricky.
They are positioning themselves as more 'authentic' against World of Warplanes, but they must also be user friendly enough to attract newbies. If they are going to have bolster packs, I'd imagine it'd have more to do with pilot stats for sim mode (few more seconds before black/red out, steadier eyes against the eye sight), better weapon/ammo load out, more plane sets(like RoF), and map access. |
i'm expecting something along the lines of 1946 full switch but with a very simplified CEM, i.e no prop pitch, limited overheat, maybe a slightly more forgiving FM but i'm
definitely expecting stalls and spins and blackouts redouts, realistic ammo loads and convergence settings. The FM on wings of prey wasn't too bad on full switch so it might be similar and thats what i'm expecting nothing as complicated as 1946 or clod but good enough to give me a challenge. takeoffs and landings are a maybe - this is a descendant of wings of prey so it's a possibility but i'm not expecting it but it might be map dependant (see pacific video i posted earlier) depending on difficulty no externals Track ir support has already been mentioned on the website. By the looks of it their trying to stick to historic planes so you buy a spit and you start off with what would essentially be a spit mk1 and the upgrades you buy increase the mark numbers, maybe you'd buy a CSP and turn it into a Mk1a, the next engine would turn it into the equivalent of a MkII etc etc as for silly upgrades like Afterburners etc no idea will have to wait for the beta. But i'm more inclined to agree with recoil they might be pilot based improved vision etc. I do highly recommend reading through the FAQ's there's a lot of info in there worth a look at. http://worldofplanesgame.com/en/game/faq/ |
