Some of the shots/sequences reminded me a bit of European Airwar. Great sim for it's time.

With respect to the new Red tail movie it looks not so bad in terms of defying physics. In the short scenes it does not look too bad.

Of course real planes would be great but we'll never see a movie again made with loads of real planes of the era.

That looks absolutely horrible.

Yep, looks nice if it would be a video game but not as a movie in 2011.

The new graphics, physics and rendering ability of air combat simulation type software is so spectacular. You couple that with new software animation tools... poke in a few actors and you've got an exciting epic film.

Shooting air combat sequences in the past required a great deal of expense, qualified pilots and in air camera work. Those days are done. People are accustomed to wild setups for animations and special effects in movies, from the likes of Iron man, X-men, transformers, etc.

I look forward to air combat war stories with the new software tools making it all possible.

Hmmmm......better watch "Memphis Belle", the movie, not the documentary.

wow, seems more like a fan made video creation

TBH it doesn't look all that different to any CLOD video edited movie from Barfly - which is good , but also bad.

I think they only have about 5 or so flyable B17's in the world ( or ones of the olive green model ) which I read when Memphis Belle came out. They just kept using the same planes over and over like on take off ect.
