Yeah you don't normally hear of those types of losses, but they happened. In Ulrich Steinhilpers book he talks about his squadron practicing dive attacks in the 109's but the cloud cover was lower than expected and about 12 of them went straight in.

I got up to #15 so far, stirring stuff, will continue later :)

I did the interviews as from May 2010 and he passed away in Oct 2010.

Heinz was a true gentlemen and was always proud of once being a flying officer of the LW
