diveplane yes the external sounds could be improved but at least they sound sort of like a plane where as the brit machine guns remind me of a giant curtain being ripped in half:grin: drives me up the wall

One hopes the next patch will prevent this otherwise we are going to have another IL2.

audio mods will not effect gameplay or any cheating.

this is a hard one because its limited audio ingame. no reverb or advanced rendering, the guns do sound the same as battle brit movie.
if you can provide a real spit gun sound i will add it in? or point to a video?
....................

That's ok then...however I am wondering now regarding Luthier's mod post whether it will be checked by online gameplay....permaban?

So while many of you may enjoy playing around with game content, please do so offline. We do not yet have the user interface for switching between modified and stock files, nor do we have the server GUI to allow/disallow custom content so that makes things a little more difficult for the players. We’re probably going to ignore any infractions before today, but we’ll become more aggressive in the coming days. Please be warned. There will be a wide-scale account ban once we identify a large number of culprits. Everyone will be banned simultaneously, with no prior warning or chance for redemption. If you do not wish to be made an example of, please do not use ANY modified files in any online matches. After all, cracking the game is against the EULA and theoretically we could ban everyone who has ever tried any mod, but that of course would serve no purpose. Once again, we do not mind you fiddling with your own game on your own machine, as long as you don’t use that ability to try to give yourself an unfair advantage online.

if anything the mod will be great for movie making , if online check looks for altered audio , imo they should remove the checker for audios.

..ok laters all happy flying.

Audio would be good to mod as the sounds are poor...well until 1C fix them anyway.

Just glad that DM/FM files are permaban!

Sounds aren't bad, but they need some balancing. Problem with getting real sound samples off the internet from places like YouTube and the like is alot of the sound balance is ruined by video compression and the fact the quality of the microphone used to record the footage varies.

When I used to make sound mods for other games using real-world sounds I would often rebalance the sounds to try and regain some of their original feel. What sound editing programs do you use? I've always used Audacity since its freely available and has enough features needed for sound modding.

One would guess that any mod that disturbs the file size/CRC/md5 of original .sfs files and so on will cause a problem with VAC etc in on-line play, given that normally “mods” in most games get put in a “mod” folder thus leaving original files unchanged.

Firstly, Never underestimate the ingenuity of cheats.

Imagine this scenario. A server with limited numbers of Spitfire II and no icons.

The enterprising cheat makes 2 different sounds for Spitfire I and Spitfire II so that he can instantly tell whether his opponent has +12 boost availabhle or not. And naturally he makes Merlins louder than DB601s, so that he can hear the enemy sneaking up behind him over the noise of his engine to avoid being bounced...

Secondly, Never underestimate the paranoia of the wider community.

If you have 0.1% of the population cheating then probably 10% of kills will be called into question. This leads to bitterness and anger, which is bad for the community.

The anti-cheat system therefore needs to be draconian in order to ensure that people don't even start to consider the possibility that their opponent might be cheating.
